SUNWING sent us to a closed resort

My husband and I booked our trip in July for our anniversary in September. When we arrived at around 10pm we were told that there were no restaurants open on the resort. The next day we realized that the whole resort was more or less shut down, there was only one restaurant open, the buffet, and they had very limited hours and almost no food. We were told we had to pay cash to get beach towels. We asked to be moved from our room because it had broken floor tiles and two single beds. Our new room had cockroaches, we never unpacked our bags. In order to get water we had to call a number and wait in our room, we had to call several times and wait for hours. The lights in the hallways didn't work at night and the halls were flooded. It was difficult to get service at the one bar that was open in the lobby without a tip in your hand. We joked that it seemed like the resort was one busload away from being abandoned, which was closer to the truth than we thought. We spoke with another man who had visited the hotel for years and he told us that they would be closing soon and that he had never seen the hotel in such a bad state. Finally, on our third day, we reached out to Sunwing for assistance and asked to be moved, after seeing that other people had said they had made the same requests. We were moved the following day. We were told to be in the lobby at a certain time and ended up waiting for about 2 hours with all of our luggage before we were picked up. We were moved to the Sol Palmeras, which was nice, but I wish that Sunwing had contacted us BEFORE our trip because after we had been moved, we started running into people from our old resort. The entire resort had been shut down, so if we had waited another day we would have been moved anyway. When I reached out to Sunwing after our trip they told us that we had traveled in the offseason and some hotels close some of their facilities. Everything was closed. I had thanked the person who I spoke with for moving us quickly, which Sunwing used against us, "You had stated to our Destination Representative that you were very pleased with the resolution." At first, they offered us a $75 voucher each, which I wasn't satisfied with, so they followed up with $100 each. We spent $830 for a 7 day trip, 3 of those days we lived on beans and rice, got dehydrated and pretty much tried to make the best of a bad situation. I have waited to write this review because I didn't want to write it while I was still upset about the situation, but it was a really disappointing trip and I will never book anything with Sunwing again after this vacation and then the customer service experience. We had flown with them 3 times before, never again.

Many people is wondering if this place is now closed. They just opened a new brand hotel on the right side of this complex. The old Sirenas section, now is Sol Varadero Beach. It is adults only (+16). The place is perfect, the nicest beach in Varadero with renovated areas. A new brand building close to the beach, with superior rooms there. All rooms looks the same, but you can get some extras if you book the superior rooms (among them minibar with beer, soft drinks and bottle of water). They have four a la carte restaurants and the best, you don´t need to book for your meals, just go there and they will have a sit for you. Here are your choices Mexican, Italian, International and cuban restaurant. All of them looks great. Modern, comfortable and the food is great. The snack bar and the lobby bar, both of them are 24 hrs. They added a new place, the market grill. It is not open yet, but it is supposed to be like a snack. Many old friends found there. Our main concern wast that some of the staff would not be there any more, but fortunately, many of them are still working there, and yes, there are new faces, but they do their best to make our stay great. So, great location, modern hotel with excellent facilities, good food, the same excellent service we used to get there in the old section and the most beautiful beach in Cuba

Hello so my husband and I have been going to this resort for 15 yrs and we just got new’s that ALL of the Staff OUR Family has not been called back to work They have been working there for 20 plus years!! Meaning Enrique,Pancho,Miriam,Yanet,Yohan,Olguita,Mercedes,Bruno, yanick and Many Many more these people are the people whom we come to see because our group doesn’t not come for the HOTEL!! We come for the people! Thank god we were just there last January to see everyone! But this is going to be a BIG HIT to this “Brand New” Hotel!! They LOST 26 people in November and 48 in January just our group alone! We keep coming back for the people not the hotel! Hundreds of people we have met over the years that we have on Social Media will not be returning to this Hotel Either so good luck to the New owners with your new staff at Sol Varadero Beach!! We will be going somewhere else just out of Love for these staff Members that we mentioned!

Average hotel, average service, food average. Beach is wonderful. Rooms are very outdated; lunch meals are recycled and reheated for the dinner service. Front desk staff are very willing and helpful. Rooms are not cleaned daily unless requested.

The place was packed, amazing service. Everything is open now. Snack bar serves alcohol, burgers and pizza 24hours. I recommend this to everyone. It's 2 hotel's, use both. If you tell the taxi drivers you are Canadian. The ride is free. Mention Thomas Cook. Free ride to Havana. I couldn't believe it either.
