We’ve stayed at the five star hotels as well but this is the best hotel in terms of having a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Best bang for the buck The staff are attentive and extremely friendly and ask nothing in return. Since Cuba does not have chewing gum, I brought 80 packages of gum with me and handed them around. It was overwhelmingly appreciated by all. Good cosmetics and nylons are treasures the ladies loved. The beach had some bit of reeds in it but the water was quite warm and free of anything dangerous; no jellyfish and no sharks. A spa excursion is available for about $55 Canadian including facials, massage, etc. and taxi to and from the spa. I’ll be going again and again.

First of all this is my forth time in Cuba so I do know what to expect from the hotels there. They are not to the same star system to our hotels or any other around the would. So a four star for them is more like a 2 -3 for us. Stayed at Iberostar Daiquiri for a week op covers on both beds was stained and dirty. Sheets on bed was clean. Beds was comfortable. Bathroom although seems to be updated could do with a lick of paint on the doors. Sliding doors in cupboard would not open unless you lifted it up and moved across. Iron but no ironing board. We had to use the bed. TV but no remote control to operate it. Towels not changed every day. Fridge not stocked up unless you complained at reception. As I said I have been to Cuba before and fundamentally the basics was not in place. Out air con worked really well for about three days then it started to leak like mad. Water all over the floor. Maid put our towels on the floor to mop it up by nobody seemed to be informed that there was fault. After another two days I had enough of the maid using our towels to mop floor and complained to reception again. finally it was fixed within the hour. Also cleaning standard in our room was really poor. accommodation is in blocks and for the first two days there was dirty plates and food in the entrance to our floor in our block. Again maids was in and our every day but failed to take it away. also floors to entrance was never cleaned so there was drink stains all over the place. A little care to detail goes a long way. Food was really poor. Many people was complaining. The poor bar needs looking at and staff need to be taught how to cook chips without over cooking them. If you like chips dark brown or black you will be ok here. Buffett again very poor. I have seen better. And at this point im not sure if it is because hotel is in an island and not on main land but the hotels on main land seem to get better food. Found staff to be very friendly but because thee seems to be no money invested into this hotel they lacked enthusiasm in the things they do. Which is a great shame. Outside the hotel there really is nothing to do. If you want a relaxing holiday then this is the place including any other hotel on the islands. But if like me and my daughter you would like to see the real Cuba this is not the place for you. Disappointed with hotel as we went to another hotel on a day out and discovered ours seems to be the worse of the lot. The hotels are all around the Mangroves so there is more then normal mosquitos around. Some people were getting lots of bits. On a whole it has not put me off Cuba but I would choose a main land hotel next time.

Firstly, let me say that we did have a great time in Cuba and that in no way, this review put a dampener on our trip. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Our room was always cleaned thoroughly every day and the resort itself was kept clean and tidy throughout. On the downside, it was a little tatty in places. The bathroom light switch was coming away from the wall and the doors were flimsy and in need of a paint. The beach towels were often frayed and full of holes and some days you couldn’t change them because they had run out of clean ones. The food was adequate in as much as there was plenty of choice, however it had often gone cold and dried up and had flies swarming around. I expect flies because of the climate, however there seemed to be little around to prevent them landing on the food. As a result I was unwell for a day and was confined to bed. The snack bar was disappointing in as much as the food would take 20-30 minutes to prepare and then would arrive cold. The Mexican and Italian restaurants were enjoyable though. Drink wise there was little to complain about, there was enough choice although they did run out of something nearly every day. The entertainment in the evening was good in the lobby area, lots of variety and vey talented musicians and singers but the evening show was a disappointment. It felt like it was essentially the same show every night with different costumes, once you had seen the first couple then that was it. The beaches were superb, beautiful sands, with blue/green sea and a great view. There were a few things to do on the beach, we particularly enjoyed the snorkelling at a nearby island with fantastic corals. So in conclusion, this trip was sold to us as a 4 star resort. It certainly wasn’t that, 2-3 at best. We had a great holiday all the same, it was a shame that the resort wasn’t up to our expectations but with some improvements it could be.

Third visit to Cayo Guillermo but first time in this hotel. We went with my daughter and her family who were there for the 7th time! Staff: Absolutely ALL staff were helpful and attentive and extremely hard working. Nothing was too much trouble. Evelyn in the buffet restaurant was amazing, so helpful and was excellent in attending to all, especially children. Rolly was also helpful. Reception Staff were always efficient and helpful. Guest Services: Yudenia was particularly helpful. Rooms: we stayed in one of the rooms above the main lobby which was ideal location for us and not particularly noisy. My daughter and her family had two interconnecting rooms on the same floor which was perfect and provided “space” for the children. Double bed was huge ?7 to 8 foot and very comfortable, Housekeeping team were good and cans of beer and bottles of water every other day. Balcony with two chairs and table. Air conditioning was on constantly and easy to manage. Restaurant: buffet restaurant was fine. Most of the hot food was freshly cooked. Breakfast with omelettes, fried eggs, bacon etc, pancakes made to order (lovely patterns for the children), juices, smoothies, yoghurts, cereals, meats and cheeses, pastries and lovely fresh baked rolls and bread. Plenty of choice. Other meals also with freshly cooked pasta, fish, large selection of meat (steak, pork, chicken). Drinks: wide variety of local spirits, wine and soft drinks including slushies which were lovely. Hot and cold coffee as well. Entertainment: in the Lobby bar in the early evening there was always singers or musicians and I believe there is a mini disco followed by entertainment in the theatre which is air conditioned. We never bother with that though. Beach: lovely beach, plenty of sun beds and lovely jetty with covered area at end with sun beds. My son in law loves to fish and loves it here. Free pedaloes from the beach and small charge for banana boat trip behind a jet ski. Advice: on the Cayo you will always encounter mosquitoes. It is a fact. The resort smokes the vegetation once early morning and late at night. Take a plug in for your room and repellent sprays etc. Tips: we were happy to tip for good service at the end of the holiday.

Second time here we because we liked the staff, location and amazing beach and price. Great time the second trip. Resort is old yes but well kept. Small place and most of the rooms do have an amazing ocean view. Food is good. Really nothing to complain about here. I had roast turkey it was delicious. Many options for all. The kitchen staff are great as well as the staff in the dining area. The gardeners work hard here to keep everything beautiful. Only complaint was the lack of ac in the dining area. Had no troubles with lack of hot water this time either. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have easy and close access to the beach. Newly opened beach restaurant was up and running and is a nice place to eat lunch. My only beef was the beach bar closes way too early so getting a drink while at the beach in the afternoon tricky but when open the waitress spans the entire beach to ask if you would like a drink. Get up early to get a decent palapa or chair at the pool in the shade The staff appreciated us returning and treated us very well World return
