We read many, many reviews before booking at Playa Paraiso, and are slightly confused by the 4 star rating & all the praise of how wonderful this resort is. Having visited Cuba before, I am well aware the resources available to Cuban resorts, our expectations were very realistic - we were not expecting the Taj Mahal LOL This resort has a lot of potential to be wonderful - nice layout, nice size, the beach is wonderful. However all seems tired. The issues we had were not “huge” but enough small things leads to a lot of frustration. Our room was musty (yes aware most are down South), our lampshades were stained & possibly mouldy. We had 1 very flat pillow each & when requested did not get another. Our blankets smelled like they had not been washed for while. Sliding door didn’t work properly, safe was broken, shower was also mouldy. Our bed was very uncomfortable, old. Lots of little things lacking like face clothes, beverages, do not disturb sign for door etc. The food - what you expect in Cuba only slightly worse. We did not receive water on Thursday and had to wait until Friday although we asked 5 times. We were told we could fill up our empties at the bar or buy some at the store. Yes, we weren’t going to go thirsty but this is not the service you pay for when booking these holidays. Our door lock broke & although fixed within 2 hours, that was 2 hours we couldn’t get in our room. On previous visits to Cuba I have found the Cuban people extremely friendly & pleasant ... here I’d say it was about 50/50. Those that were awesome, were totally awesome. Those that weren’t seemed like they couldn’t be bothered. It almost felt like the resort is going down hill & the staff are feeling it. On a positive note the drinks were all delicious, the shows were very entertaining & enjoyable. The beach is absolutely gorgeous although very crammed as far as chairs/palupas. On our last day we just laid on our towels old school. Again, not what you expect on a resort holiday. Although we did have a good time by making the best of it all, we would not recommend this resort. My advice is pay the extra & book a 5 star, or another location.

    Enjoyed our stay overall!

Just got back from a lovely week in Cayo Coco at Hotel Playa Paraiso. Here is some info for people: The room was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Bed was sufficient. Extra pillows provided when requested. Lovely breeze through the screen door so AC not required. Great hot water. Room cleaning was inconsistent in terms of scheduling (morning vs afternoon) and providing bottled water. In terms of food, preferred meat and fish from the grill-to-order rather than from buffet. Good selection at buffet of both local Cuban and attempts at North American food. Lacking variety of fruits and vegetables. For breakfast, they had made-to-order eggs, omelettes, pancakes and smoothies. Numerous choices for a la carte restaurants however, the quality was fair (North American 3 star). In relation to beverages, there was a varied quality of alcoholic cocktails, depending on what bar you ordered from. Many of them were quite weak (used lower quality spirits). Extra cost for top-shelf spirits. Ran out of spirits (liquers, sparkling wine) at some bars during the week. Limited variety of non-alcoholic beverages (cola, sprite, orange “Fanta”). For amenities, the beach was lovely with very clean sand and no rocks but some jagged coral washed on shore to watch out for. Many loungers, umbrellas and cabanas were available. Staff available to assist with moving loungers for you. Food and drinks available at the beach. Pool was very clean and well maintained. Pool was not heated but refreshing when hot from the sun. Plenty of loungers and umbrellas available with staff to help. Small gym did not open until 9 am. Not accessible to those who like to work out prior to the day starting. Exercise bikes were very uncomfortable to use. Weights and limited weight machines were available. Provided with fresh towel and exercise mat. Beach/pool towels available however access to fresh towels daily was inconsistent. Family friendly resort with many multiple generation families. In terms of activities/entertainment, there was the typical Cuban nightly shows by a good dance troupe. Plenty of evening activities (pre-show) in the lobby, including dance lessons and games for all ages. Entertainment staff encouraged participation but not too pushy. Thanks to Junie, Tyron, and Ronny for their great energy they provided to the guests. In relation to service, we had fantastic front line servers in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Thank you to Jennifer and Ailen for their smiles, attentiveness to our needs and swift service. Great drinks at the pool bar by Carlos. Inconsistent quality of beverages from the lobby bar. Great coffee bar and table service in the lobby. Great expertise by internet personnel to assist us with Wifi access. In terms of front desk staff and “Customer Service” Reps, much to be desired. Front desk staff were far from friendly (brusque). When approached the Customer Service people, they seemed uninterested in assisting us with a couple of minor requests. So much for customer service. Walking around the grounds was a pleasure as they were very well kept and maintained by staff to the point that they made hats, grasshoppers and flowers with palm fronds when completed their work. No sign of any garbage anywhere. Cleaners always on the go. The resort itself was well laid out in terms of access.

complications. As much as we enjoyed the resort it makes it harder to go back due to the fact with left a cell phone in the room and it was stolen. We waited for our 4pm check in and once we were in the room we unfortunately had to deal with pluming issues. After waiting 2 hours for the maintenance guy to not show up we demanded a new room because they kept giving us the run around. During the time we switched rooms our cell phone was left in the room. By the time we realized the cell phone was missing the next day the maid had already been in the room to clean it and there was already different guests in the room. The person had access to my phone opened my apps and I was able to find out they were 10hrs away in a different city in Cuba. The cell phone got sold to someone within the 24hrs of it being missing. The resort was not helpful at all would not question any of their staff would not help us in anyway. That was a big let down for our trip. We tried to make the best of it. Luckily I was with a good group of people to make it a little better. Be very careful with your personal belongings you can't trust anyone. It is very unfortunate the cell phone situation occurred because other than that we really enjoyed our trip. We would have recommended this resort to others but that really made us feel uneasy. We really liked the resort, the beach was beautiful. The food was good and it had a decent amount of options to choose from. Most of the staff were all very friendly other than the front lobby/customer service staff. The rooms were great our only complaint was the water pressure in the shower (which we heard a lot of guests complaining about the showers).
