Try it, you'll love it!

FrustratedwithTripad (Paso Robles, California) on Apr 18, 2024

Purpose of visit: Universal Studios Trip. We stayed three nights at the Garland. It was great! The hotel and grounds are clean and quiet. The restaurant on grounds was convenient and had good food. There was a free, hourly shuttle to Universal Studios (most hours). Rooms are nice. The decor is a funky, cool 1970s vibe... but not in a bad way.... a cool way. During Check-in, we were chatting with the employee (Rosy) Our son is autistic, and loves elevators. We were getting assigned to a room on the first floor. He heard and became upset. She told him he can still ride the elevators, but he was... not happy. She was able to find a room on a different floor, and asked if we'd like that. He did! She was so kind to take the time to help our family. If that wasn't enough, the Brady Bunch house is just a short walk away!

The Garland - A touch of class

John H (Isle of Wight, United Kingdom) on Apr 18, 2024

Just had the absolute pleasure of spending 2 weeks at this incredible hotel. We wanted a safe space to properly explore LA and the Garland gave everything and more we needed. We were a little worried about the location and possible noise as we aren’t great sleepers… and while there was traffic noise the rooms have decent sound proofing and are so nice and super comfortable we had no problems at all. The hotel is beautiful and so well thought out.. food and drinks are great and the restaurant about the best place we ate! And we did explore. All the staff were brilliant, housekeeping fantastic. The free coffee in the room was some of our favourite coffee in LA! And we are coffee snobs. Pool not massive but big enough and plenty of nice sun beds and fresh towels. Loved all the touches, outdoor cinemas around the pool each night, street food cart was fantastic (best corn I’ve ever had) Honestly… this place is a joy! From. Quick break to a longer holiday you will be happy here. It’s super comfortable, chilled and all class.

Lovely place to stay

kayls221 (Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom) on Apr 18, 2024

Great hotel! Very clean and lovely decorated. Restaurant and bar food was nice. The pool area was lovely and it was handy having the washing machines and dryer. The free shuttle was handy to get to universal and tbe metro stop. Staff were very friendly. Lovely place called '&waffles' is within walking distance and is amazing! Also viviennes cafe was fab for breakfast. We stayed for 7 nights and managed to get all around LA from this base using public transport.

New favorite hotel

Maggie S (San Diego, California) on Apr 14, 2024

This was a last minute book and I wasn’t sure what to expect. We stay in hotels quite often and this is my new favorite hotel. From check in to check out we only encountered kind and happy staff. They have activities throughout the day which my daughter loved (especially the dive in). The property and rooms are very clean and nicely kept. Food was amazing. Highly recommend the street tacos. We ended up extending our stay an additional night to just enjoy the hotel. You definitely get more than you pay for here. Highly recommend. I’ll be coming back with my friend soon to enjoy all their adult activities!

Nice would recommend BUT read whole review

Yeah was a nice stay in a lovely hotel… the location was primary for us having booked through British Airways holidays. We wanted to visit Universal, Warner Bros and Six Flags etc. Check in was easy and we ended up switching rooms as we’d asked for a quiet room (which had been confirmed via email) but was not what we were allocated. But they switched us to room 211 without issue which was great. No road noise or lift noise, just some heavy footed neighbours which the hotel can’t help. That said, why anyone would let their kids scream up and down the corridors is beyond me… absolute knobhead guests… Bar staff were amazing and can highly recommend the mai tai and the garland cocktails - had to try a few just to be sure but I can 100% attest that they passed quality control! Front desk staff were also very helpful. Wasn’t a fan of the Front Porch. Both times we ate there we were left with no service. As a European it’s massively annoying that you HAVE to leave a tip when you literally have to go to the front desk to get the bill to leave, as it’s been like the Marie Celeste around your table and you serve yourself breakfast… what’s that all about. I wouldn’t mind if they were attentive, asking you if everything was ok and if you wanted a drink etc. but none of that either time. As soon as we said we were going with the buffet, they were gone never to be seen again! So yeah, very overhyped as the breakfast wasn’t half as good as a Hampton By Hilton standards. On the plus side for the hotel there was always an Uber to be found easily. LAX transport took about an hour on the way here for $110, and I’ve rebooked the return journey one for tomorrow (Sunday) for $65 so reasonable overall. Amazing selection of Uber Eats to this hotel also so if you’re like us and underwhelmed by the Front Porch you can literally order in anything you’d like. Also the shop barely has anything that is useful. Nothing like a convenience store, more like high end knicknacks. Waste of retail space if you ask me. Unless you enjoy spending $11 for a small trinket of gummy sweets.
