This was our third time to Jamaica, but our first time staying at the Jewel. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and intimacy of a smaller property and we felt the staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a great vacation. The resort itself is smaller, but that means the staff remembers you and you get to know some other couples and people visiting. The pool and beach areas are kept immaculately clean by the staff and they truly do an amazing job. We were always able to find lounge chairs and they didn't run out of clean towels once the entire stay which happens frequently at larger resorts. We received great service at every restaurant and bar. The highlight for us was definitely the high quality of the food. For a resort with only a few restaurants, you still have so much choice! The buffet was fantastic when we did go, and we enjoyed "Platinum" the most out of all of the a la carte restaurants. Platinum is a bit dressier, but the food is worth getting a bit fancy for. Shout out to our server Marcia who really made our night. We really enjoyed the Steel Drum Band and the singers and bands that the resort was bringing in throughout the week. Lots of great entertainment and lots of activities to do. Aquasize and yoga outdoors were also really great. The thing that truly makes this resort special is the staff. If they can do something to make your stay better, they will. All of the staff was amazing, but there are a few people in particular that we wanted to give shout outs to: Bartenders: -Cornell at Jasper's Piano Bar was the best. He made good and strong drinks, had a great sense of humor, and he had the best taste in music. -O'Neil and Garnet-Ralph at the Aquamarina Bar! Great service, awesome drinks, they worked together great as a team, and they both loved to entertain the guests. Also would like to give a shout out to their trainee, Shemoyne. He was awesome, and I hope he gets his own shifts on the bar soon. We loved him! -Romario at the Boardwalk Bar, super friendly and quick service everytime we went by. Servers: -Marcia at Platinum and Moonstone. She had a great sense of humor and she was so friendly. She even remembered my allergies and made great recommendations for me. She went above and beyond for us on a few occasions. -George, Montgomery and Wendy in the buffet. All so friendly and helpful. We never waited long with them for our drinks or to have our plates cleared, and we enjoyed the friendly conversation so much. Also would love to give a special shout out to their trainee, Tyrese. He is doing an amazing job and I hope he gets his own section soon. :) We had a lovely time overall. We really enjoyed the beach and hanging out by the quiet pool and hot tub in the afternoons. We were always able to get a good drink or a bite to eat when we wanted it and we were quite impressed with the quality. The food here is truly special, and we have stayed at many resorts across the Caribbean before. The chefs here really do a nice job of balancing local flavors with popular dishes for the tourists. Try the rum cream chicken and the red bean soup for sure! *If you smoke.... ask about the box in the smoking area... lol* We only had a few minor complaints: the wifi is not very strong anywhere on the property, the spa staff were a bit too pushy for sales (we understand they're just trying to get business and make some money, but at times it was too much. We were approached four times by the same woman in one morning and I ended up getting really annoyed unfortunately and it would be nice if the resort had a few areas that were off limits for sales. We were approached in the lobby, waiting in line at the buffet, by the pool, at the bar, on the beach, even in the smoking area... ), and some areas of the resort could use some upgrades. We were first brought to a room on the upper floor of the Emerald Lanai building. Our booking was supposed to include a balcony, but these rooms did not have private balconies. Many of the shutters on the windows were broken which meant we had no privacy. The pipe work would honk anytime we flushed the toilet or ran the sink, and the air conditioner was a wall mounted unit that leaked all over the floor and unfortunately on to my luggage before we realized it. We ended up saying something to the staff at the front desk though and we were fortunately moved the next morning to the Sapphire building and LOVED our new room. The Sapphire room was spacious and beautiful with a comfortable bed, good plumbing, and lots of space, and the a/c worked great. BIG THANKS TO TIA AT THE FRONT DESK FOR HELPING US SORT THAT OUT! We would be very likely to return and would just make sure to book a guaranteed Sapphire or Diamond Building room. Thanks so much to all of the staff at Jewel Dunn's River.

This was our fourth year in a row that we have been to Jewells Dunn’s River Falls Resort. The resort is beautiful and the employees are super, food is very good. But the management has made changes over the years that will probably make this the last visit. In previous visits the Concierge knew what to do and was very helpful, now they have a pleasant employee who will smile but do nothing and give you the look like (really you want me to do something).Contacted Concierge three times before arrival to request a room on the pool side of our building (Diamond). Arrived Friday 1/31 and was told our room was overlooking the resort next door. I told the Concierge that we would move when a pool-side room became available (received my first really look) was told a room would not be available until at least Monday at the earliest (3 days) I said that I would still move (received my second really look) was told to check back on Monday morning. On Saturday 12:30 pm I went to the front desk they knew nothing about room change request, apologized and said it could be done tomorrow (Sunday). At 10:00 AM we received a call that someone was being sent to get our luggage. The Porter did not know what room we would be going to and that we needed to check with the front desk after noon. Checked with Concierge she said she could not tell us until the move was complete. Went checked back at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 always same answer finally after getting upset we did get our room at 3:30. The resort advertises premium liquor which they did have the first three years. Now they call LTD Whiskey, Gordons Gin, Smirnoff Vodka and some rot gut Tequila premium not even close. But if you do want premium, they will sell you a bottle at twice the price and keep it at one bar for you. They have 7 bars so you will need to walk to your alcohol. Want a glass of Moscato you will have to buy a $7 bottle for $45. Want a nice steak $80 for two, want crab legs or lobster $30 each want a nice spot to watch the Super Bowl another $35 each. For an All Inclusive they are not. Other than employees who recognized us from previous years and gave us a very warm welcome there was no acknowledgement on being a returning guest. At check-in they asked if it was our first time. Previous years the management staff made a point of personally acknowledging that we were returning guests. Rooms also need updating things are looking worn. Elevator in Diamond building needs help (malfunctioned 3 times had to take Service elevator). Fire alarm also went off twice during the middle of the night (called front desk they apologized that it was system failure). This had me questioning the location of the fire extinguishers which I checked and found a few had not been inspected in a couple of years. Needless to say, we will be exploring other destinations in Jamaica.

Just back from 60th BD trip with friends. First of all, between my wife and I along with the 3 other couples, we have visited well over 30 all-inclusive resorts in many countries. Was this the best? Nope. That goes to the places that charge $6000+ USD per person for a week. Was it great... Absolutely! All in our party agreed that this resort was perfect for us. Older property (like me) that is well maintained. Food was really good with excellent variety. Beach is small and intimate like many in Jamaica. The pool is huge for the size of the resort. No problem getting chairs or drinks. They have poolside drink service which was nice at times. We preferred strolling to one of the three close by bars. Buffet and theme dinners worked fine for us due to variety but restaurants were all good. Attending the manager's reception opened our eyes to why the place was so friendly and warm. The staff is a complete reflection of the woman-led management team who are part of the experience rather than above it. Tips: 1. Get a private driver for Dunn's River falls and arrive there promptly at 830 am (request an 8 am pickup at resort). Rather than hurriedly climb with a thousand strangers, we went up all alone in our small group with a guide. Did not see other tourists until we were exiting. We had visited it before but this was completely different and cool. Afterward, get your driver to take you to Blue Hole. Very cool. 2. Use Paul Williams (Cell 1876 381 7881, Email paul849@hotmail.com) for your driver. He became part of our group as the day progressed. You will understand Jamaica after a few hours and you will have a blast! 3. TIP GENEROUSLY - THESE FOLKS MAKE BETWEEN $52 and $100 USD per week. A twenty dollar bill is a game changer. Especially in the more remote areas. It is very appreciated and will change the nature of your experience. 3. Look past surface warts and blemishes to the things that actually matter and your vacation will be incredible. PEOPLE are fantastic. 4. Walk outside the resort one morning and explore. Maumee Bay is a really nice town if you head up a side road for a bit or stop for a beer at one of the little bars. 5. Walk to the fence at the edge of resort and ask for big Ed. Tell him exactly what you would like carved and for a small amount, you will have a custom made piece of art. Negotiate your best deal and add 5 dollars back in when you pay. It will reward you in many ways. 6. Find Damien at one of the bars and figure out where he is each day (they rotate bars). He is a great bartender and better human. 7. Do an activity led by Crazy Kim. She made us all laugh over and over. 8. Enjoy! The staff are the best I've encountered. They will become your friends as the week progresses.

Had a great time in Jamaica, other than two excursions we spent most of our time on the beach or in the ocean. It isn’t a Long beach but walking on the sand that is well kept was a pleasure. This is a smaller resort which means it isn’t terribly crowded. There were a few minor inconveniences that if it were a 5 Star resort I might have been bothered by them. The staff were always helpful and beach service was acceptable. There were some guests that should have spent more money and booked “Hedonism” instead of an adult only. She went topless and shouldn’t have and he had his little marbles on display in a little yellow bag. That I’m sure the ladies on the beach were underwhelmed. Basil was a great server on the beach and if you should happen to visit this resort be sure to seek out Basil, he will keep your drink orders coming and always let you know what the special of the day is. We will be returning and I am sure the visit will be as enjoyable as it has been the past times we have visited.
