Just back yesterday from a wonderful week with two other couples at the GP Kantenah. Its pronounced Kahn-Tay-Nah. We had been saying it wrong for months before we arrived. I loved almost everything about the trip and the resort. Weather: Mid January and the temps were low to mid 80s every day. We had partly sunny, with one short rain shower on only one day, but it was unseasonably windy all week. The wind was so strong that we were not able to take out any kayaks or catamarans any day during the week. We were told that this was not normal for this time of year. Size: The resort is large when combined with the neighboring GP Colonial and White Sands resorts which you have full access to while staying at any one of the three. Looking at the map before the trip I thought it was going to be overwhelmingly large, however, once you walk around for a day or two, you quickly get a lay of the land. I found it easy to walk any where that I needed two, but if you are in a hurry then you can always jump on a small shuttle that seems to come by about every 10 min. There were plenty of them. I have heard some folks make a case for a smaller sized resort, but I think I prefer this type of larger size with more activities and places to discover. I tend to get bored pretty quick. Hotel & Facilities: My brother surprised us by calling in an upgrade for us to the Romantic Villas. He checked a few weeks before we left and they were running a special deal. It was totally worth it. I can sleep in a tent and be happy, but my wife was over the moon with the room. The outdoor shower is totally unique. When do you get to take a shower and look up at trees or stars. Room was plenty large in size for all of our junk. I never did try out the bidet but my brother did and we had a lot of laughs about it. Our fridge was daily replenished with cold sodas, water and beer. Our room 3406 was spotlessly clean thanks to Valentin. A/C started out a little cool till I figured out how to switch the thermostat to Farenheit and raised it up a bit. We never once turned on the TV as there was so much else to do. The building is not new but is very well maintained compared to our experience at other resorts. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful with fountains, covered walkways and they left some sections of the natural mangroves where you walk through on boardwalks to get from the Kantenah to the Colonial. Just walking around the large resort grounds was part of the attraction of the GP for me. Wildlife: I have never been to a resort with so many animals roaming about. All seem friendly. I tried to include some pictures so you can get a sense just how many there are. We also saw what I call Mexican racoons which are like American racoons with longer noses and skinny tails. They have a crocodile exhibit on the grounds of the Colonial. Iguanas are everywhere and you are almost tripping over them sometimes. Beach / Pool: The beach is well shaded with a pretty thick grove of palm trees and palapas are plentiful. There are plenty of chairs at the beach and there were always some available. There are hardly any vendors that walk this area and not a lot of tourists from other resorts. Its pretty secluded relative to those in Cancun or near Playa Del Carmen. Its actually much quieter and more peaceful at this resort beach than others I have been to. The biggest bummer of this entire resort is that the beach has a very rocky bottom. Its loads of sharp coral and sea shells that litter the bottom of the ocean not far from shore. It makes it very difficult to swim in the ocean because you cannot put your feet down without them getting scratched or cut up. I have never experienced anything like it before and it was a real bummer. Therefore, we didn't spend much time in the ocean at GPK. The Colonial and White Sands pools are gigantic and they were a good option with for several days that were exceptionally windy. I thought I read another review that said the pools were too deep for their young children but the Colonial pool had a zero entry end as well as an entirely separate splash pad and kid pool area with water slides, so maybe that family just didn't find it. We did try the smaller pool in the Kantenah resort and there was almost no one there. If you want to get away from people that would be a good option. One thing we found strange is that there is no drink service on the beach. They do have it at the pool. If you sit at the beach you have to walk to the beach bar to get your own drink. Strange but not that big a deal. We did enjoy great service at the Beach bar from Elizabeth, Martin, Irvin and Daniel. They made great drinks and put up with my span-glish speak and our silly joking around. Food: Food was better than average when comparing to other resorts I have visited. Our first day we asked a random couple where the breakfast restaurant was and they recommended the Buffet Tikal. They tried several and it was the best of the bunch. We went there the first day and never went anywhere else. I thought it had plenty of selection and the food quality was a little better than what I have experienced at other resorts. After a couple days we tarted asking to be seated at Beria's table. She was a great server and an even more amazing person. We had a lot of fun to getting to know her. She really engaged with us and was genuinely interested in what we were doing each day. We ate at a different a la carte restaurant for dinner each night and only repeated one I think. Our favorite meal was the Japanese steak house where they cook at your table. Its hot, fresh, well seasoned and we left stuffed. What's not to love about that. I find most resort food to be really bland because they are cooking for a diverse group of international tourists with all different tastes. I've grown accustomed to American style food with its oversized portions and heavy seasoning. The second best thing I ate was the chicken fajitas at the Colonial beach restaurant. The buffet food at the beach isn't very good but if you order food off the menu it is fresh hot and delicious. They also had steak fajitas, a steak sandwhich and jalopeno poppers that I thought were great. We really appreciated the great service at this restaurant by Catalina and Hortencia. After that I liked the Italian restaurant and the Barbeque joint. The chocolate soufle at the barbeque restaurant is amazing. It was by far the best desert all week. Our waiter Eduardo at the barbeque restaurant put up with our joking and had us all laughing histerically. Thanks Eduardo for making that a fun night. The food at the Hacienda was not my favorite but Consuelo was a fantastic server. Again, she put up with our joking around and she chimed right in with own jabs which made it fun. She called the mariachi guys over to sing for us. Last comment on the food is that although I am not a foodie, I do like creme brulee. The creme brulee served at several restaurants at this resort is not good and if the resort manager is reading this, I would love to come back and find that the recipe or the preparation changed. Staff: We loved the staff at the GPK. We like to engage with them, get to know them, learn about their life both on the resort and at their home. Many of them were willing to joke around and laugh along with us, which makes the vacation so much more fun. There were so many drink severs that were really warm and friendly but a few that stood out were Vianey in the Colonial Lounge and Gessica by the Colonial pool. There are a group of young people that are charged with the fun activities each day. They refer to them as the POP, People of Paladium. They offered some fund and some wild activities. We really enjoyed the dance lessons, the foam party and the white night party with fire dancing. Thanks Adriana, Andy and Celeste for putting up with our lousy dancing and making us laugh. I think what many tourists don't appreciate at these Riviera Maya resorts is that much of the resort staff commute 2.5 hours each way in a crowded van to work each day to serve ungrateful tourist people like us. The staff all wear a smile and rarely complain. God bless them. Entertainment: They have nightly shows that are surprisingly good. You can tell that the dance team is giving it there all. I was amazed at the number of costume changes during the show and the number of times they run on and off the set. This same team does a fire dance at night on the beach at the "white party" which you do not want to miss. Finally, my final analysis (you are thinking its about time): You will like the GPK if: You love animals and wildlife. You like a beach that is quiet, relaxing without a lot of vendors or tourist traffic. You prefer beautiful natural grounds rather than new concrete jungle modern style. You like romantic walks, discovering new areas, seeing different parts of the resort. You are a family with kids. You like interacting with friendly Mexican staff persons. You will be disappointed if: You love to swim out in the ocean. You like to get blitzed and party the night away in a noisy night club. You have to eat at a 5 star restaurant every night. You hate walking. You hate kids.

Def family friendly resort, We were able to enjoy every single service they have with our son and never feel like he was not included in something or he was to young for something they welcomed him just as much as they welcomed us... The only thing i could suggest is warming the water in the kids pool with the slides it's like ICE WATER and my son or us never used it cuz it was to cold

This resort is mind blowing!! We took a private taxi to and from the airport We used Canada transfers and it definitely was worth it ! Our check in was fast and efficient Our first room was decent however we decided to upgrade to the romantic villas in colonial and it was exceptional!! The outdoor shower was a pleasant surprise! The staff work hard and they are always smiling and so helpful when needed! The entertainment at night was awesome and so much fun ! My favourite was the hard rock night and the beach party ! The pools and beach are large and stunning and there is always chairs available unlike other resorts where people leave towels over night to reserve there chair which drives me crazy but none of that here!! The food is so delicious and amazing! The buffet at the white sands was our favourite! The Japanese and Ribs and More was our favourite restaurants ! We will definitely recommend this resort to others and definitely will be returning! A big shout out to the staff behind the scenes who make this resort a much better place, they won’t be able to do it with out you !! ???? cheers to everyone involved! ??????

    Must go back again

Our second time and we will be booking again, from start to finish all the staff we met were friendly and professional they made our holiday, Jorge at the beach bar and his 07.00 espresso and Danish set the tone for the day, a wide range of food, varied entertainment and superb well-tended grounds all made for an ideal location for a relaxing break. As a party of seven we tried the speciality restaurant’s which were first class both in the quality of the food and service. Just some of the staff who went the extra mile to make our stay special, Ismael in Ribs & More, Mirabel in El Gran Azul restaurant, Manuel on the sports field and Maria in La Hacienda. We celebrated a birthday while on holiday a delicious cake ordered via reception arrived on time and made the day While a large resort it has the benefit of a regular buggy service that will stop and drop you off at the next lobby or close to your room. We would recommend the resort and we will return Thank you Grand Palladium Kantenah for a memorable holiday
