Excellent Place for a Three or Four Day Stay in Playa del Carmen.

Kevin L (Dallas, Texas) on Apr 20, 2024

The Room: We stayed in a garden view swim-up. The room was spacious and well lit. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows deflated too easily and were not comfortable. We didn’t ask for new pillows as we were in the room for only two nights. Our swim-up pool was very nice. Wonderful to be able to just drop into the pool first thing in the morning or late at night. I do wish that the wait staff would have visited us more frequently while we were laying out. The Hotel: The building is well maintained. The staff are all friendly and kind. The coffee shop makes excellent coffee and has some tasty pastries available. The restaurants are good. We enjoyed lunch at Rincon and breakfast at Pelicanos was great! Loved the two little cats that roamed around those two restaurants. Spice is a good choice for decent food buffet. Asiana was very good, but for us the best thing there was the dessert. We ordered their banana dessert and their chocolate dessert and we combined them. So good! Cozumel: Go! Book first class on Ultra Mar via their website and walk to the terminal early in the morning to avoid being hassled by sales people. Rent a vehicle from HTL when you get to Cozumel and head to Punta Sur for lunch! Beautiful! The Beach: Not very good. Too many random people walking up and down the beach constantly. Too much seaweed. Not enough wait staff. The Transfer Service: Use CanaDian! They are so efficient and communicative and the Navigator was immaculate.

Close to Being Great

Todd I on Apr 20, 2024

Great - Friendly staff. Clean property. Asiana restaurant. Location. Good - Spice Buffet and most other food. Entertainment. (We played water volleyball and had over 20+ people involved but the person running the events took down the net because he had to put everything away -- way to ruin a good time). Room (the hot tubs in the room take a lot of space and I can't imagine most people use them after spending most of the day at the pool and the hot tubs they have there) Average - Drinks, Beach (have to go up the beach to actually get in water without dodging rocks/coral) Poor - Having to rent cabanas at the pool for $130 if you want to be near the pool. Otherwise, pool seating is limited and hard to find. The property is actually aware of the issue as they have you acknowledge a "no reserve" rule, but it isn't enforced. The cabanas completely surround the pool and include the chairs in the water in front of the cabanas.

Good for an all inclusive

U9826FIjosec (Williston, Florida) on Apr 19, 2024

Grading in a curve for an all inclusive, it was very good. The food was decent, but nothing was memorable other than the octopus at Kalamata. Drinks were not strong at all, but a couple were good. The mixology bar in the lobby(Cantina La Mejorada) had the best drinks, by far. Asiana seemed to be the most high end restaurant in the property. The buffet at Spice was good and we found ourselves there for dinner after a couple of fails at some of their other restaurants. Breakfast was especially good. Beds were awful, just awful. Took me a few days to recover from the pain of sinking into those horrible beds. I have back and neck problems, but my wife doesn’t. Her opinion was the same. A couple of the nightly shows were entertaining. Pool was good, as was the beach, but covered areas on the beach were scarce unless you paid for a cabana. Rooms was nice and large, no complaints there. Service was good and friendly. Elevators throughout the property were not labeled, inside, to what things were on what floor. Very odd and didn’t make any sense as to why that wasn’t done. For an all inclusive it’s probably as good as it gets unless you went with an ultra upscale property.

Heavenly Resort!

The best hotel ever! The hotel itself looked and felted like heaven. All of the staff were amazing and kind. The food and drinks were good. But if you want a strong drink stop by the Play Dirty bar that's in the entertainment/lounge area, the drinks are included and amazing. The bartender even does cool drink tricks for you. The banana chocolate bread from the little Cafe absolutely delicious. I took 3 slices before I checked out. The shows were awesome. The ocean was everything, and that little spa place on the beach definitely worth the $40. I loved the mango sobert from the snack bar by the pool. The activities throughout the day are super fun. The TRX class was the best, please don't be late...lol This was an excellent resort to spend my birthday, my friends and I loved it. My only complaints are the pools were always cold, pizza and definitely wings should always be on the room service menu. Ginger ale should always be an option to have as a drink, sprite is absolutely not the same! Other than that this was definitely one of the best resorts I ever stay at, and the no kids was a Major plus! I will be coming back again.

You really couldn't want for more.

This was our 1st visit to Mexico and chose this resort from a review I read in The New York Times. Everything is made so easy to have a wonderful time. Check in was quick and informative, our bell man was friendly and showed us were we could eat meals, get snacks arrange tours and how to use the features in our room. Restaurants will have various open and close days or times, which is fine since it allows you to try other spots. Portions are perfectly sized to allow you choice of a couple things and not be stuffed. We loved the Mediterranean inspired restaurant and Pelicanos best, but all have good food choices. Pool life starts at 7 am, and they offer yoga on floats plus other pool activities you can join or not. Easy walk to 5th Ave restaurants and tourists shops. We only stayed for 5 nights, but wish it were longer.
