We truly enjoyed our stay at Secrets Maroma. This has got to be one of the nicest resorts we have ever stayed st. The staff was beyond friendly and the food was amazing which is not always the case with all inclusive resorts. We had so many options to choose from for meals with some delicious entrees. The breakfast options were incredible and offered so many tasty choices that everybody could get exactly what they wanted. The beach just off the resort is beautiful with the softest white sand on earth. The beach side service was top notch. Oh and room service which was offered 24 hours a day at no additional cost was also very impressive. I will certainly plan our next stay at Secrets Maroma.

The room was great large and well appointed with modern furniture and fixtures. our building concierge Mailli was the best . The beach is beautiful and clean and the facilities at he beach were great.. Great Service from Andy (beach concierge) and Claudia (our waitress at the beach). The restaurants were superb the best food so far in any AMresort that we have experienced. especially Bordeaux, Portofino and Oceana . waiters Pablo, Pedro and Hugo all so professional. This is really fine dining with great food and service.

Charlie is by far the friendliest and most entertaining person we met. We were lucky enough to go on the sunrise kayak with him and it was a breathtaking experience. Roberto our concierge made our life's and trip run effortlessly. The personal touches given by him made the trip remarkable. Aarecely was our wedding planner and made our wedding on the beach a once in a lifetime moment for us. We will be returning to this resort next year and visit with our favorite staff members.

This is a lovely resort. Service and staff are wonderful. They are friendly and want and very accommodating. Perhaps the best service I have ever experienced in Mexico. There are so many great food options. Good food and beautiful restaurants. The dining experiences were lovely and not rushed. The main buffet is just as nice as the restaurants. We had fun dressing up every night. But it's Mexico. If that's not your thing- be casual and hit the buffet. The rooms are first class all the way. Lots of well thought out details. They think of everything. I would have gladly paid more than I did for the room that I had. Preferred club ocean view. Preferred club is no big deal- you have an option to go to a private area for food, cocktails and light fare 24/7 but we never used it. But yes- pay for ocean view if you can. I very much enjoyed watching the sun rise each day. Spectacular. Every room is nice even if you don't have an ocean view. I am a beach person so I really don't do the pool. Lots of pool options if that is your thing. The pool areas are all wonderful. I park my bum on the beach and this one is a super star. The water is safe and swimmable and protected by reef about 500 yards off shore. WE took a very short boat ride to snorkel and it was well worth it. I swam laps in the swim area each and every day. They have activities all day every day ion that is your thing. We loved sunrise yoga and bike riding. I will be back with again. Cant wait to go again. December weather was A-MAZ-ing. Warm but not hot. ZERO humidity. Perfect !!

A Lovely Resort, But Not Sure It's Worth the Extra Cost

We've been to 8 different Secrets resorts, and I had wondered about Secrets Maroma for a while, having heard so much about how fantastic it was. It was always significantly more expensive than most of the other Secrets, so we usually chose a better deal, but this year, I found a good price, at the last minute, on a swimout room (something I had been wanting to try because their swimouts look so nice), so we went for 5 nights at the end of November for my husband's birthday.  The resort is definitely beautiful, and the beach is really nice, with white powdery sand and great for swimming. We are beach people, so that was nice, but it was hard to find chairs that had some kind of shade or covering of any kind. The beach staff was good, especially the guys that help you put your towels on the loungers and get you set up. I really appreciated their helps, especially on the windy days.  The room is lovely. The decor has recently been updated and is similar to Akumal and Cap Cana. The swimout design really is fantastic, and I liked that it wasn't heated. We found that to be really refreshing after being on the beach in the hot sun all morning. It was warm but not like bath water, which it was at the swimout we had at Akumal.  I found the food was hit or miss here... some of it was fantastic - for example, the Mexican restaurant. Our server, Viktor, was amazing. He added fresh ingredients to guacamole at our table (soooo good), and the food was fantastic - try the Azteca Soup... yum!, but the Seaside for dinner was a real disappointment. The service was good, but the steak I ordered was tough and thin. I was surprised because we had gone for lunch and I really enjoyed the breaded and fried Manchego Cheese Sandwich. My husband really liked Himitsu, and I thought it was okay. We didn't try to French or Italian. We did the buffet for lunch one day and the pizza was really good! And try the Cream Cheese Mousse for dessert.. you will not be disappointed. Freddie, our server at breakfast on the last day was so friendly and the service (every day really) could not have been better.  The Coco Cafe is very tiny here and has very little selection. I think this is because with the older resorts, they renovated to fit it into an existing space, whereas with the newer resorts, they are designing a spot for it. I mean, some of the CoCo Cafes are amazing... cheesecakes and fancy coffees to die for. This felt very basic without much selection at all. I also noticed that many things were an extra charge here, that we got for free at other Secrets resorts... like chocolate covered strawberries and so on. I was surprised by that considering how expensive Maroma is. That said, our concierge near our room (I forget his name, I'm sorry, but it was building 15), did a special little cake for my husband's birthday when I asked if it was possible to get some little special surprise done. I had asked the front desk for a banner for the door and it never happened until after I spoke to the concierge and he was happy to do it, and was just lovely. So I was grateful for him making that happen, and my husband was thrilled.  One small thing that I did not like was the tile on the bottoms of the pools and decorative ponds was brown, which I felt made them look like muddy, rusty water, which was very unappealing. It's a little thing though. We did enjoy playing mini golf. I loved that they had a mini golf course on site.  Room service was good and very quick. Housekeeping was good, although we had to keep calling to get more water, but it was always brought to us right away, so that wasn't an issue. The tub in the room is amazing... super deep and whirlpool jets. I loved it.  One thing I will say is truly amazing is the Spa. We both had deep tissue massages, and I was blown away by the atmosphere and how gorgeous it was. Best massage I've had in ages, and she also did a pedicure for me, and did a great job. My husband liked the hydrotherapy, but I wasn't up for it on the day that we went. I asked if I could get a day pass to try it on a different day but was denied, which I found kind of surprising, since I was having two things done (pedicure and 80 minute massage), but whatever.  Overall, it is a beautiful resort, and the beach is lovely, but honestly, I don't think it's worth the extra money they charge in comparison to many of the other Secrets resorts. Akumal's beach is fabulous and we loved the snorkeling there, and the swimout we had there was just as nice. We were asked if we'd come back to Maroma, and we both agreed we wouldn't. We wanted to see if it was a great as everyone says, and it's nice, but we actually found we preferred many of the other Secrets resorts more. Some just have a warmer, cozier feel than this resort did, at least to us. Maroma felt very crowded to us, even though it was apparently only 60% full.   Maybe some of it is that due to the years of hype I was expecting it to really blow me out of the water and instead found that it was nice, but not really any nicer, imo, than some of the others we've been to in the last few years. Cap Cana we loved, and Akumal, as I said. I'm glad we went, but I doubt we will go back. That said, the service was, as always fantastic and I'm sure anyone who tries Maroma won't be disappointed.
