Beautiful and Relaxing

Beautiful resort and beach. Wish the bar and restaurant staff were a little more friendly but we had a wonderful time!
We Love Our Time Here

Love the design (4 floors max – not a high rise), layout (lots of greenery, flowers, and palms – not just concrete), and scale of the property (~ 400 rooms, short walk to the ocean from any room). Rooms are beautiful, modern, and clean. The beach is stunning – gorgeous turquoise water and endless soft white sand. What made it extra special ... Our ideal day is spent with a book and cocktails on the beach – the pool/beach concierge team set us up every morning and looked after us through the day – huge thank you to Bramdon, Julio, Enrique, Francisco, and Edy for your friendship and your amazing hospitality. Last year (cocktail) tables were not available on the beach – so you basically put you drink in the sand. We commented on this as an opportunity for improvement last year and are grateful that we were heard – thanks to the management team for bringing tables back to the beach this year, it makes a huge difference. We also love to run (me!) or hit the gym (my husband) every other day. Love the signed mile-long running loop around the property and the ability to run for miles on the beach (at least on days when the tide permits). Also love the upgrades made to the gym – the added equipment is another big improvement and one we have commented on (the need for) in all our previous reviews. Most amazing lunch experience was the weekly tuna by the pool. A fresh, whole tuna is skillfully broken down and offered up in a variety of preparations - as sushi or grilled. Absolutely incredible. We love craft cocktails; a pre-dinner cocktail in the lobby bar – mixed specifically by Jose or Angel was what we sought each night. Himitsu (regular table) remains our favourite restaurant for dinner. Many thanks to chef Francisco, Alejandro (manager), and their entire team for many great meals and service. Outstanding. Aside from the Superbowl event – we cannot comment on other aspects of the entertainment offered since we don’t partake. Big thank you to Janet for her role in organising the Superbowl event. Love the set up with big screens and armchairs in the garden. Such a fun evening. Additional recognition goes to: Ana, Dario (beach service) Carmen, Jessica, Neydi (lobby bar – service) Gabriela (head hostess) Freddy (World Café service) Otilio (sommelier) Elmer, Jennifer, Rosana (Himitsu) Eusebio (restaurants) Armando (mentalist – weekly appearance in the lobby bar) Alejandra (Food & Beverage, aspiring to building concierge) Roger (our building concierge) Opportunities for improvement – since no review is truly balanced without this: With the transition from AM Resorts to World of Hyatt we found our experience to be slightly different this time around – lot of highs as noted above, but a few key improvements are needed. Management: nowhere to be seen – we would have enjoyed meeting the senior management team, perhaps at a weekly cocktail meet-and-greet event – especially for those who have been members or long repeat guests to make the overall experience more personalized. Restaurants: in addition to needing improvements with respect to menus, food preparation, and enforcing the dress codes, the biggest improvement would be for management to deal with loud, rude guests (multiple nights we experienced guests shouting across a restaurant to someone they knew ... this would go on through the entire dinner service, or f-bombs for the entire restaurant to hear non-stop, or attempting to drink from the delicate wine decanters ... no joke). Craft cocktails: given the price point of this resort it would be nice to see more premium liquors offered throughout. We always stay in a preferred room and would love to see a better selection of liquors such as VSOP cognac (e.g. Henessy) and bourbon (e.g., Woodford), particularly in the main lobby bar to match the grandeur of the room. Beach lounging: this year we saw the addition of multiple rows of beach umbrellas (on little cement stands) in front of the palapas, obscuring an otherwise beautiful view of the beach and Caribbean, and making it look messy and cluttered (not the beautiful Zen the beach set up used to have). While we appreciate the need to have added shade, we believe for a resort of this calibre it’s not unrealistic to expect something nicer – perhaps more palapas or something similar. Similarly, while we appreciate that cocktail tables were re-introduced at the beach this year – why the cheap white plastic ones and not the beautiful wicker-style they used to have at the beach? General maintenance: this year we are noticing aspects of the property needing some attention – peeling paint, a loose/lifted ground light in the walkway remained unattended to for our 3-week stay, unlit pathways (lights not working), very noisy A/C unit in the room, etc. Property inspection: we could see much effort being poured into sprucing up the resort in preparation for an upcoming inspection – as a guest it would be nice to know the resort goes out of its way every day – for the guests who are staying – and not simply to impress or pass an inspection. Booking: This resort is full of repeat guests, but also goes after convention business. So much so that, the last two years, room availability has been limited and we’ve had a difficult time booking even a year in advance. All of that said, we’ve already booked for next year (a year in advance, and even then having to move our preferred dates back to accommodate the limited availability mentioned). Looking forward to our visit next year. With gratitude, Jeri & Tim – Canada
