    Johan was amazingly attentive during our whole stay and so polite and wonderful to deal with. If we go back we definitely would like to have him as our butler again. We’ve never had a butler before and it was a great experience and we definitely felt spoiled,

    Better late than never! We honeymooned here end of Oct. 2019. Our first trip to the Dominican, definitely not our last. We used a travel agent for the first (and last) time since we thought it would maybe make the honeymoon more special but if your huge into research, etc as I am then I'd recommend to just book on your own. Airport: Beautiful, open air (like Cancun many moons ago...) We had a guy grab our luggage for us (we wanted it since it was warm and we were tired from the wedding and travel). Very friendly and of course tipped him for his help, he got us out of the airport in record time. Our transfers were not that great (private but a cramped style of seating in the tram, no welcome drinks. Had to stop on the side of the road since he didn't close the door properly) and I know I would have done better on my own (Renny I hear is excellent). Hotel: Beyond beautiful once you step into the lobby and overlook the balcony. The ocean is a short walk down, and just gorgeous. Loved that it was right there with this smaller type of hotel. Room: we stayed in the adult section with the rooftop jacuzzi and really enjoyed it. We used the jacuzzi almost every night. Roberto was our butler and he was always checking in on us and making sure we had a good stay. We reserved the Japanese when we first met him for the earlier dinner timeslot, he suggested we do the later reservation and we should have listened to him. The only issue we had with him was he told us we could go to the other hotel and not need a reservation for dinner, but when we arrived they said we need a reservation. So we ate at the steakhouse twice (very good though). We didn't get a chance to try the Italian sadly. Breakfast was great, we did the ala carte a couple times and buffet. Loved both, food tasted better at ala carte but can't beat the view at the buffet. Layout of the resort is easy to get around, the courtyard was a nice central area to visit. I was under the weather most of the trip and having the pharmacy there was convenient (I pack every "drug" you can imagine, except for dayquil.... Be sure to bring tums, imodium, tylenol, dayquil; otherwise it costs an arm and leg there. Better to have and not need. Food is subjective. We are foodies and found it to not be up to our level. However, the steakhouse was excellent. We actually enjoyed the house wine as well. Wasn't expecting that since most AI wines are not up par (IMHO). Being the adult only section, we had access to the snack room (forgot the official name, but what I liked to call it haha) and it was nice to grab a sandwich and dessert on the way back to the room to tide you over until dinner time. Also, finding a restroom was very easy. Really liked the smaller feel of the hotel. Room service was ok, pizza is awful (Chicago native hard to compete I know). Being our honeymoon we got the beach dinner included, it was nice but we would not pay separately for it. You're around other couples so not very secluded to me, service and food was very good though. Felix at the pool bar was beyond our favorite and we still talk about him fondly. Shake, shake, shake. He was amazing. Also Juan the pool guy was a sweetheart and his service was superb. (Be sure to follow the fan FB page, very helpful) Drinks were hit or miss elsewhere. We ventured to the other hotel (when we tried to go to the Italian there since ours was closed that evening) and the lobby bar made the most amazing espresso martini. Best evening drink I had while there. Overall, I think we'd stay here again for nostalgic reasons but would try somewhere new next time. Tips: bring plenty of singles and fives to tip, we ran out even though we thought we brought plenty. Bring floaties (swimways are my favorite) and an insulated mug to keep your drink cold. Be sure to visit Felix at the pool bar! He will not disappoint.

    Another Great Vacation at the Mirage

    I’m somewhat late in posting this but better late than never!! January 2020 was our 4th stay at the Mirage and we were warmly welcomed as returning ‘family members’ by Management and the staff who remembered us. Our overall experience was relaxing and enjoyable as usual but with some disappointments with the food. The selection and variety at the Seaside lunch and Market Place dinner has changed for the better and one can eat really well with good choice of soup, entrees, salads, breads and cheeses. However, the roast duck at the Seaside lunch was so overcooked, it was tough and inedible. Meanwhile, the duck breast at dinner at the Market Place was grilled as ordered. Dinner at the Seaside and the Steak House were major disappointments. The Seaside Coconut shrimp and Sole were reasonable but the Calamari and Red Snapper were tough and inedible. The Steak House also failed to please as, despite requesting that the smoked salt not be used on the filets, both orders was came with it. Also, filets were not tender. On the plus side, the Italian for dinner did not disappoint. The Calabresa salad and Carpaccio starters were very good as was the Lasagna and Pizza entrees. However, the servings are much too large and two people could easily share the pizza. Service was efficient and at a reasonable pace to enjoy a leisurely dining experience. The a la carte breakfasts in the Club Room are a must: the benedict eggs were cooked to perfection as were the home fries. Breakfast at the Seaside is equally good. The Sushi bar is also a must and you can sit where you can watch the Chef prepare the sushi. He will make whatever you want in them and request that they be fried to enhance the taste and experience. The wine selection still included a selection from the Tisdale vineyard and these are better than the Spanish ones .The Spanish Sparkling wine was a reasonable substitute. All bars have a complete range of premium liquors with the upstairs lobby bar being the quietest and less busy than the lower lobby bar. Because it is less busy, it’s the bar to enjoy pre and after dinner drinks and service is excellent. The bar staff at pool/beach bar in building 4 are exceptionally friendly, look out for you and remember what your regular ‘beverage’ is. As always, the staff are exceptionally friendly, always smiling and eager to please and remain the most valuable asset to this great resort It would be unfair to single any one of them as being more special and deserving than the others. The one exception is still the tennis pro who is just not welcoming. We went to play and were rudely told by him and his assistant that we needed a reservation to play. As all the courts were empty, what was his point? To summarise, apart from the food disappointments, we had an enjoyable and relaxing two week vacation and were treated as valued guests and look forward to visit number 5 in 2021.

    awesome trip - great place for couples, beach, rooms are awesome (2 bathrooms for each room!). I loved the steak house, coffee shop, spa the most - but everything else was a close second. This was my 3rd time and I'll keep coming back

    The Mirage is a beautiful well kept resort, and the most upscale of the three sister Majestic resorts. (You have access to all three) The 2 bedroom suites with jacuzzi tubs are very spacious and nicely designed. Some of the furniture is worn and has a damp odor due to the oceanside location. They provided us with some solutions to the issue...that helped a bit. Our family had some other functionality issues with their rooms that were eventually remedied over the first few days. Housekeeping was on point with efficient service daily. Our concierge, Edwin, was exceptional and assisted with these rooms issues with urgency and empathy. He also made our stay very special by accommodating a private room for us in one of the most popular restaurants for my nephew’s 3rd birthday! He was also there for other small requests through out our stay. He was always quick to respond by iMessage. As for food... we tried the steakhouse, Japanese/hibachi, and sea side restaurant. I would say there were all mediocre to good depending on what you order. The Japanese/hibachi was an exceptionally fun experience with great servers and chefs. We are basically pescatarians and most of the fish, including the salmon at the seaside restaurant and sushi at Japanese restaurant was really good. The breakfast and lunch buffets were ok... pasta bar and grill options were the best options. My girlfriend loved the passion fruit! The all day cafe was perfect for my serious coffee habit, and the carrot cake was hands down the best food they had! We enjoyed the nightly live music with the kids in the courtyard outside the cafe. The event staff was really nice and personable without being too pushy. We did not attend the late night shows which seemed to be just ok. We did have a toddler and infant in our family and did not feel out of place at all as some other reviewers expressed. The families with children are isolated to two buildings with their own pool and section on the beach which anybody can use. It was not crazy with young kids and still very relaxing. The kids can also enjoy the waterpark at the other two hotels that are a stone’s throw away. If your kids are rowdy then you may prefer one of the other two properties. The service at the pool and beach were basically non-existent, with towels and chairs being self service, and towels would frequently run out. Food and drink beachside and poolside were also basically self service. We spent an hour at the spa which was really nice. I could have definitely spent few more hours lounging and using their amenities. I did not get a massage... but two people in our family did and they raved how excellent it was. (FYI- they are seasoned massage enthusiasts). The gym was an appropriate size with new equipment, and trainers were also nice with many classes offered daily. Overall, with a few small issues in the beginning, our stay turned out to be very nice. It is a good family resort and could also be romantic for a couple. If I was ever back in the DR I would consider it if the price was right.
