It was our first stay at Grand Velas. Considering how fantastic it was during COVID, we will definitely be back! First and most importantly, the staff was absolutely wonderful. Friendly, helpful, attentive and patient. Special props to the personal concierges Carolina and Santiago, who were wonderfully personable and helpful. We also enjoyed our interactions with Jorge with front of the house F&B and Exec Chef Michel. Dayan at spa reception helped us navigate pre-arrival for things above and beyond the spa. But it wasn’t just the hotel management that was great. It was literally EVERYONE. I feel bad that I don’t remember everyone’s names, I should have written this sooner while it was fresh in my mind. But the pool and beach attendants were top notch, the incredible spa attendants were fantastic, as were the aestheticians (I had a Thai massage that relieved a 15 year old back problem for the first time in years). I also give the hotel ownership a LOT of credit for figuring out how to keep their employees engaged and the experience intact during this crazy time. The people set Grand Velas apart, certainly. But there were so many other great things - 1) GREAT food. Not your typical all-inclusive. The food experience is important to us and typically we wouldn’t choose an all-inclusive for that reason. We took a chance on Grand Velas based on reviews and were glad we did. 2) GREAT views. Zen wasn’t open, but the way the front property is sited was very smart with every single room getting an ocean view. 3) Unbelievable spa with hydrotherapy. I could have spent days in that space. We’ve heard that Zen is the most beautiful part of the property (closed during COVID) but we didn’t miss it. The spa just opened before we got there so we got lucky. The only, super-minor negatives: pre-arrival isn’t great, if you try to book a restaurant reservation through the website but you won’t get an answer. We found when we arrived that a very smart plan was implemented during COVID, all restaurants open on an alternating basis, and each night there is an adults spot and a family spot. If they just update the website to explain this and manage expectations, that will be easily solved. Secondly, the pool is cold. It may just be a seasonal reality. Finally, the beach is wonderfully soft, but the once you enter the ocean it is... not. Super-ouch rocky, you need reef shoes if you want to get in the ocean. Not much the hotel can do about nature, but people may want to know. Again these points are super minor in the context of the experience as a whole, but sharing for anyone who may want to know. We loved our stay and will be back!!! Thank you to the entire staff for such a great experience.

We have been here four times but because of the Pandemic, we needed an eat-drink-relax-sleep vacation. The only outside activity we did this trip was Tulum (Our guide, Pepe, was very eager to tell us all about Chinese alien space Jesus) after which we -- gloriously -- did nothing. The bedroom, bath, shower, closet, etc were huge. All of the Grand Class's rooms face the ocean and have a conformable deck with its own foot pool. Creative cocktails, a nice wine list as well as the old standbys were plentiful and effortless obtained. The restaurants compare with the best places we have eaten at globally. The sommelier, Eduardo Quiroga, was talented and provided us a private free wine tasting. The Bistro staff, Ernesto, Felix, William, David, Leonardo and the rest were amicable and attentive. As always, the concierge staff — Dianna and Carolina — were generous with their time and willingness to help. Finally, the trainer, Fanny was incredible and perhaps one of the best parts of our trips.

First trip to Mexico and Grand Velas proved to be an excellent choice. Room was very spacious and luxuriously appointed. The grounds were beautifully groomed and maintained. Sanitization was up to par in the Covid era (this was a big plus for me). In hotel food options were solid, in room service had a great variety and beverage selection was amazing! Service was attentive and gracious. But what really made a difference was the resort staff.. Special thanks to Amy (our concierge) who went above and beyond to satisfy and accommodate all our requests and made our stay incredibly special. Nora and Francisco from the pool who were extremely efficient, pleasant and helpful. There were so many other staff members who made our stay enjoyable. Highly recommend.

This was our 7th or 8th stay at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. We were nervous about COVID but the resort took very strong precautions including requiring our temperature to be checked and hands sanitized before every restaurant or activity visit and having the staff all wear BOTH a face mask and a face shield. We keep going back because the Grand Class rooms are perfect...clean, large and comfortable...and the food is outstanding. Gourmet level dinners at many of the restaurants. And the staff is amazing. Luis at the beach, Willian, Ernesto, and Edgar at the Bistro, Antonio at Azul, and Eduardo the wine sommelier we've now known for 7 years. And our excellent concierge Diana. Just to name a few. The combination of room quality, friendly and attentive staff, and excellent food keep us coming back year after year.

My family usually takes a big trip at Christmas and this year we decided to do Mexico for obvious reasons - it’s close by, they are open to tourists and we heard that the safety and sanitation processes were top notch. We decided on Grand Velas because it was part of the AmEx travel program and those hotels and usually very clean, safe and the service is always good. Well we were blown away!!! The service was amazing, the room was a huge suite with two massive doors that opened to a deck with a plunge pool and a daybed. We had our own personal concierge- Carolina- that made all our reservations, booked all our transportation and spa treatments. And the SPA was out of this world. Though it was very expensive you had a 80 minute add on “free” water treatment with each visit - this Included a guided experience through the steam, sauna, ice and clay rooms. All with personalized service. We had dinner on the beach every night along with entertainment such as a fire show, Jersey Boys show and a light show. It was perfect for the kids.
