Sssshhhh.....don't tell anyone! This is a lovely small resort......a real little gem. The pool and beach are phenomenal.....you can walk in either direction for quite a ways........the rooms are clean and well looked after......everything is close by.....the food is quite good and the Fusion restaurant is very good..... no reservations are needed for the a la cartes, and there is no maximum visits.......the nightly shows are also very good, and they put on nice varied live music artists after dinner in the lobby......the disco is a lot of fun once it gets pumping.....guests have access to free kayaks and water and bogie boards, and weather permitting they will take you for a spin in the hobie cat.....about the only thing is the entertainment crew could step it up a bit.....the group at Puerto Plata Viva was more fun and involved........will defo return!!!!!!!!

We were glad to discover this gem that is Viva Wyndham V in Samana. The adults only resort is small and quiet, on a pristine beach with no sea weeds nor rocks, with turquoise water, tall palm trees. The chairs on the beach are new and comfortable, no hassle for beach towels, but no umbrellas, so you have to chase the shade. With UV30 on a sunny day you can get burned without even knowing. Behind the resort there are beautiful hills, but that also attracts clouds and rain. From the 7 days we stayed, in 3 it rained all day long. The majority of the tourists were from Europe and Canada. Our room was small but comfortable, super clean, with newer appliances and bathroom facilities. The buildings have ground floor + 2 stories. First floor is best, and rooms ending in 01-04 are closest to the beach but also close to the theater and restaurants, so noisier. The resort has few pools, with baldaquin beds, the water is chemically tested daily. There are lots of gorgeous flowers, plants and trees, very well maintained. Lots of beautiful spots for photos. The food was excellent, it was difficult to choose between the buffet and the 3 a-la-carte, the chefs know what they are doing, and the results can challenge higher class restaurants. The portions are huge at the a-la-carte, were you can choose 4 meals or more. The buffet has excellent food, with decent choice. No drinks in the morning, when a champagne or a rum might be nice. Oh, and the red wine is really bad. The two bars have international and domestic drinks served in real plastic glasses on the beach. The management is visible only when needed, discrete but effective. I went swimming in the water when a red flag was up, and a small delegation came to advise me with diplomacy against it. I also noticed that resort employees eat at the same buffet as the tourists, and I find this excellent. It shows respect for their people, bravo. I will definitely look into coming back. One of the best places in my many travels in DR. Now, the not-so-good experiences: We arrived from the airport on a Friday at 11PM. After checking in, we could not find any place open to eat and drink. After many requests, we were served some sandwiches and fruit plates, with an undrinkable red wine (more grape juice than wine). When we left, we needed to use the curtesy shower. Well, it is only ONE shower for all, at the gym, without hot water, without bath towels, without a changing room. For a resort aspiring at 5 stars, these two experiences were not good.

We stayed here for 2 weeks. Flew into the Samaná Airport with WestJet. It is a small airport and had very helpful staff who guided us to our WestJet Rep. Stress free arrival. The Wyndham was only a 20-30min ride from the airport. Check in was friendly and welcoming. Our room was #1303. An amazing room. This building was closest to the ocean, we could not have picked a better room. Beautiful ocean view and we could hear the waves. The room itself was good and the bed was very comfortable. We were looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday, with no agenda and no need to ever look at the clock. For us, we found what we were looking for at this resort. Our selected beach spot was just down from the volleyball net. This area was less congested and we enjoyed having space to ourselves. . . As mentioned the beach is quiet, you can walk either way and come across only a few people. The ocean typically had waves, but not usually big enough to prevent swimming. There was only one day during our 2 week visit where it was red flagged. We really enjoyed listening to the waves. We were happy with the food and drinks. Even after 2 weeks we were never tired of the buffets, great food and good variety. We really appreciated not having to reserve at the a la carte restaurants. We found we frequented the buffets though because of the great selection. This was our first time to DR. I was surprised of the limited amount of English most staff spoke, it wasn’t a problem though. Most evenings there had been live music, again keeping with the theme of the Resort, it was very relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed having dinner then enjoying a glass of wine listening to the entertainment. This has nothing to do with the Resort, but worth mentioning. We booked 3 excursions. For what we booked, lengthy travel was involved. It seemed anything involving a boat ride left from Samana. With other stops, it took about 2 hours each way. We ended up opting out of our 3rd excursions for this reason, we were not up to the 2 hour bus ride each way, just to get to the boat. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

Our stay was incredibly good. We were staying in a bungalow which are new. The cleanliness is very good and the alcohol very well received. We will be back soon and will occupy a bungalow again. The hotel staff was very friendly and kind; esspecially Antonio from Guest Service. He always solved each of our problems. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask for it. We had a problem with our room and reported it 3 times at the reception and it was no resolved. Antonio made it possible in 20 minutes. Thanks a lot and we hope to see you again soon.

returned last night from our second stay at this resort and couldn't be happier. the beach is amazing and can be walked for an hour in either direction. food was good, breakfast simply the best. the staff was always helpful and polite to attend to your needs. a certain segment of the Canadian tourists could learn manners from those wonderful staff members. if you enjoy walking I would highly recommend the walk to town. my wife and I did I twice, yes its long but you really pick up the flavor of the island by getting out and about with the folks who live there. will most certainly be back.
