This hotel is perfect for someone’s first stay in SF. While we didn’t end up using the pool, it was great to have the option. The hotel’s proximity to a lot of great tourist sites and activities is unmatched. The rooms were clean, but dated.

Conveniently located by Union Square the Handlery is a nice hotel. Our room was particularly large but the bathroom was tiny. The staff were friendly but not overly helpful. Breakfast was included in the restaurant next door, I won't even both writing a review on that. Overall, I would stay again but not pay for breakfast.

We’d married in Vegas and moved to San Francisco for the honeymoon part of our US trip. We chose The Handlery based on location reviews. My husband had told the hotel we were on honeymoon which I did not know and they very kindly proved a bottle of fizz and snacks on a complimentary basis which was a nice, personal touch and really appreciated. The room was lovely. Very, very clean on arrival, with a really comfy settee and chair and TV but most importantly a fridge! A fridge to me, is very important, especially on a city break, sometimes you walk so many miles and are so busy during the day it’s really nice to chill in the room of an evening and that’s easier with your own drinks chilling in the fridge. We only ate in the restaurant attached to the hotel (the daily grill) once. We had breakfast and, despite them mucking up our order what we had was nice. Expensive but nice. We did really like this hotel. It has a good vibe, it was however pretty expensive per night and though the room was absolutely spotless on arrival it did not appear to be vacuumed for our whole stay of 6 nights which was a bit surprising and the 4 star I have given reflects this. When you’re laying $200 a night the least you expect is a daily vacuum. The position of the hotel is great, you’re right on the end of Powel St so have a couple of options for the cable car direct to Fisherman’s Wharf, you’re immediately on Union Square (not very inspiring in my opinion and not much going on) but we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. The only reason for a 4 star is the price and housekeeping which did not warrant a 5 star.

We stayed in the premier King room for 5 nights. Check in was easy and quick, rooms were updated, and all staff was friendly and helpful. Tons of places to eat within walking distance and very centrally located. Just blocks from the Cable Car station or The Bart train, but we walked to most places during our trip, adding up to a total of around 45 miles on foot! We had a pool side room which I'm thankful for because I think one facing the street could get rather noisy. Our room had a great vanity area to get ready, spacious bathroom, and comfortable bedding. If I had to pick one tiny thing that could've been better, it would be the pillows, or lack of. Overall, very very happy with our choice of staying here and would stay again.
