A fine place to stay while in Turks and Caicos

We would not consider staying anywhere else while in Turks and Caicos. It is right on the beach and Grace Bay is easily one of the best beaches in the world. The staff are terrific They are firendly and caring. In addition, the services they provide are by people with the same attitude. As an example, I left my credit card at the front desk when checking out. George, our usual driver, received a call from the hotel on the way to the airport and was advised that the desk had the credit card. He dropped us off at the airport and volunteered to return for our credit card. He returned with the credit card 40 minutes later (in time for our flight). When I inquired about payment, he refused additional compensation. This is typical of our experience at Ocean Club West.

OCW is just a terrific place to soak in everything wonderful about Caicos! All the units are privately owned but the property has the resort feel and elements. My wife and I have been there four times now. We can always count on OCW to be a true pleasure. The beach front is typically epic for Caicos with talcum powder perfection. The on-site restaurant is very good, if not just a bit pricey. Each unit has a full kitchen and now there is a large grocery store walking distance. We love to just stock up for the week and you're self-sufficient for the entire stay. The pool is beautiful and great for families. They also have several pergola-covered outdoor grills. We were able to grill up some surf and turf one night which was a blast. The staff at OCW is very friendly and the grounds are beautifully maintained. They have free bike rentals which is perfect for exploring all the shops, bars and restaurants nearby. OCW is also right across the street from our favorite dive shop "Dive Provo". Check them out at diveprovo.com We love OCW and we'll be back next year.

UPs: We spent 9 days at the Ocean club west. The place is fantastically located on the wonderful Grace bay. Our house is fantastic, double bedroom and 2,5bathrooms, large living room/fully equipped kitchen. The beach is amazing, towels are always available (even if sometimes they have strange spots but I asked for new ones). Decent restaurant, expensive as all the rest, but hey, you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world! The grocery shop is 5 minutes by bike (complimentary bikes available for the clients) and the price are a little higher than in Manhattan, so I would not bother to take food with me next time (this time I brought with me coffee and olive oil). They also offer good “L’occitane” products for bathroom, so no need to bring soap/shampoo/hair conditioner with you. Hairdryer available in every bathroom. Downs: 1) the air conditioning is very noisy, when it starts it is like a laundry spin, very bad especially during the night 2) laundry and dryer are old and noisy; but you may not want to use them during your holidays, so that is not a big problem 3) they do not differentiate the waste and I find it very unpleasant. I am really attentive to our planet and the difference we can make and the fact that they do not ask to differentiate at least the plastic is unsustainable to me. I would definitely come back, asking for a house with silent air conditioning system, if any.

We spent 10 days at OCW at the end of July/beginning of August in a Junior Suite. Check-in was smooth but we did have to wait for our room to be ready at 3:00. We had a couple hours to kill. We ate lunch at the beach bar. The service was good and the food was too. It was the only time we ate there. Here’s my resort review: ROOM: I believe my receipt said we had an “ocean view” but we had a “pool view” we were on first floor. Higher up we would have seen the ocean. No complaints about the view, it was great. Our room was nice. Not completely updated. The bathroom had been recently updated. One minor complaint. There was nowhere to put anything in the actual shower. The small shelf was taken up by a container that can be filled with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I had to put all my supplies on the shower floor. Minor but I wanted to mention it. There were plenty of towels and lots of drawers in the bathroom. We had a full kitchen and it was wonderful. It was fully stocked with all the utensils you could need. My husband loved the little cooler. He filled it with ice and took beer to the beach everyday. It was great being able to cook breakfast. The patio area was nice, the screen was in need of some repair. The fans on the patio were great. We could eat breakfast out there or just lounge. I loved that we had enough drawers and closet space to unpack. I don’t like living out of a suitcase when I’m away. We made good use of the washer and dryer and in-room (free) safe. The bed was fine. AC and ceiling fans all worked well. Wifi was good. The room also had Netflix which was nice. We had to call maintenance for new batteries in the remote but that was our only issue. Housekeeping made up our room everyday and not once did they start knocking on the door at 9:00. We did have one issue with a neighbor. 1:30 in the morning we were woken up by the people next door. They were drunk and outside on their patio smoking and just being loud. I asked them to please keep it down and they went inside shortly thereafter. GROUNDS: The grounds are well kept. Watch out for lizards. They freaked out my husband a couple of times. They didn’t bother me. One day I saw a cat. I loved the little statues on the ground. Everything outside looked well-manicured. POOL: We did not use the pool. We came for the beach! It was a nice size and appeared to get a lot of use. BEACH: This is the real gem. Grace Bay is amazing. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft. We had no issues getting chairs. No issues with getting towels whenever we needed fresh ones. We spent most of our days on the beach. The resort has kayaks and paddle boats you can use. There are plenty of people walking up and down selling additional water sports. Be on the lookout for the Jammin’ Gelato guy. He only comes by once. FOOD: We did not eat at Solano. We did have one dinner at Opus at the sister property. I wrote a separate review on that. As everyone says (and I’ll repeat) food here is VERY expensive. It was great being able to walk to the Graceway and pick up some things. We brought a suitcase full of food so we only needed perishables. OVERALL: OCW is in the heart of everything. There are lots of restaurants and shopping to walk to. We did not have a car and did not need one staying here. The resort is older than those around it. It’s not “modern” compared to its neighbors. The difference is you’re pay half the price as you would at the Seven Stars to be on the same beach in the same location. Would I stay here again, absolutely.

Our family stayed in an oceanfront 2 bedroom condo. The condo was absolutely beautiful. Furnishings and decor were very up to date and the condo was nice and clean. We had a wonderful vacation. We met many families from all over the US and Canada. We loved relaxing on the screened in porch at night while listening to the music at Solana. The pool is beautiful and clean and the landscaping/grounds are very well kept. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Plenty of beach chairs/umbrellas and towels. Solana, the restaurant onsite was very good. Resort is in a great location as well. The free kayaks/paddleboards are a nice extra. Free bikes too but we didn't use them. The grills near the pool are spotless and we used them twice. Took the shuttle to Opus Restaurant and the casino one night. This really is a perfect resort for families on the most beautiful beach. Only downside was the windows in the second bedroom weren't working properly. Louvers and screens were broken letting in all the heat, bugs and noise. But we made the best of it. Management was made aware of this and we were told they will be repairing shortly. Don't hesitate to book your vacation here!
