Deleted my review so I’m reposting: A review of Iberostar Playa Alameda Starting off by saying; this is NOT my first time in Cuba, but the first time at this resort (and last) Day 1 started with a great check in and we got taken to our room by a cart so we didn’t have to walk. I stayed in 1716 and 1715 was another 2 ladies in our group, with my mom upstairs in 1717. Our building; newly renovated, to Cubas standards of newly renovated (it was good) except for the broken railing that caused one of our ladies to fall down the stairs on day 3. Our room: standard, nice. Moldy but to be expected for a cheap resort and the humidity. Springy bed, but decent enough to sleep on, it’s Cuba. Stained bed sheets, never replaced even when asking. Shower was cold until the last day, I wore shoes in the shower because of all the mold. Broken sink that leaked all over the bathroom floor and didn’t hold water, we lived with because everyone else was already going through something. One of our friends sliced their toe right open after maybe 30 minutes on the resort (the second they opened their door) The doors for most our group didn’t lock, the other half the keys didn’t work, some got locked out for 30 minutes to an hour. And once they do open, you have to push (be careful I’m sure you don’t want a sliced open toe as well) one girl didn’t have a room until 2am. Day 2, our first full day there: the day I decided that we really should have changed resorts when we started seeing off reviews on multiple platforms. Yes there was food, but unless you like cabbage, boiled hot dogs, floured eggs, and hard rice there wasn’t anything else. Edible (until half of us ended up with food poisoning) ?? After a day in the sun I grabbed the GLASS giant water bottle from the fridge, it landed on the ground cutting my foot with blood all over the room, glass EVERYWHERE to the point it shattered all the way into the bathroom. (My fault YES; but the lack of care was them) 1) We called the front desk, no answer our friends next door called, no answer, and my mom upstairs called, no answer. 2) My friend ran to the pool bar (closest) told them we needed medical and clean up. 3) she ran to the lobby and told the front desk that there’re was blood and glass everywhere, in my foot and all over the room. They took their hand and shood her off (the manager too at that) We didn’t see anyone at all, never. The maid ended up cleaning it at 3pm when she got to our room the next day. (We pushed some of the glass into the hallway in a pile for her) Wifi? You’re on vacation so you don’t really need it, but if you do, good luck. Most of us ended up living without it or paying for our data connection. Not enough entertainment to put down the phone and relax. Entertainment: there is not a lot. * the same show every night at 10pm * Music in the lobby at 8pm * At the pool at 4pm there’s a 8 minute dance lesson (the same 3 dances everyday) * A water ballet on Fridays, and a weak beach party (there was no one at this said beach “party” Yes there’s a night club… but…. Small, empty, needed actual music than random beats. There is no music at the pool, or beach unless it’s for their 8 minute dance lessons ^ so bring a speaker. Off resort? The best days we had was when we got classic cars and went into Havana & convertibles twice into varadero. The tour guide made sure we were taken care of (get2knowcuba) best tour company! Other vacationers: everyone we spoke to wanted to leave, from cockroaches in their room, no service, no edible food, some also with food poisoning. Food Poisoning: yes it happened, to a handful of us. I got what I paid for, yes. Yes we knew about the shortages, we luckily brought snacks with us, some brought toilet paper, and we brought our own towels. But we didn’t expect the long bar lines (took us an hour when we got there to get something at the snack bar at 1am) they have 1 (sometimes 2) bartenders working. We waited anywhere from 15 to 35 minutes on average to get a drink daily. Besides the small hidden bar (best rum punch and only bar to make actual good drinks ??) Or the blood on our sheets, broken sinks, no food, and coming home with food poisoning and a cut open foot because by day 7 we still had no one ask about that. The grounds were nice, gardeners brought us flowers a couple of days, plus dogs / kitties and lizards ?? The pool is nice, the beach is nice (go to the left for soft beach water, the right for rocks and coral) Staff; very little we’re friendly, some… no smile, no hello (and yes we tipped big, there was 17 in our group) * Maid in building 17 was amazing, basically the only person to show us a smile. Pros: nice pool, nice beach, DECENT drinks, off resort treatment. Cons: everything else. Definitely not the place for me (or for 97% of the other vacationers we met last week) definitely not “4 star” not even for Cuba, more of a 2 star on the Cuban radar. I’ve been to some nice Cuban resorts before that cost similar Not the WORST but there’s 1000% better. Especially for the fact a lot of people recently going have gotten food poisoning. Good luck! (don’t go here please)

You get what You pay for .Our ninth trip to the Caribbean. Do NOT pay for upgraded suite recently updated and King bed, we did, nothing different than the others suites .Working staff are great and friendly, front desk not so much. Best public beach in the Caribbean, the resort is dated and run down, with a lot of items in need of repair. we Brought our own coffee maker and coffee, not supplied in rooms. If you like White cabbage and Egg plant this is the place for you .In the 14 days there real eggs for 7 days, sliced bread for 3, no jam, peanut butter, honey, bring your own. pork was in limited amounts for 6 days, Chicken and fish daily, they do magic with hot dogs. Lots of Liquor everywhere. they do the best with what they have.

A fabulous week!!

We really enjoyed our stay! We stayed from April 7 to April 15th and traveled with one other couple. It was a nice little resort and easy to find our way around. We had a standard room which was on the ground floor but only steps to the buffet and the pool. It smelled a little musty when we arrived but that was pretty much gone the first day. The bed was a little firm but we slept fine. The room was cleaned daily and had clean towels and a supply of TP everyday. We also had nice hot water for showers everyday. The shower spout is a little hard to figure out but once you get the hang of it it was no problem. The beach was nice but a could use a good sifting to get rid of some of the sharp shells. Definitely do not try to enter the water down where the boats are; it's very rocky. They also could use more loungers and definitely more palapas for shade. We spent most of our time at the pool. It was amazing. We stayed at the "quiet" end and would float for hours. The drinks pretty good and they never ran out. Be sure to stop in and see Yuri at the little bar between the pool and beach...he makes an amazing rum punch. Again, definitely need more loungers around the pool. Chair wars started around 5am. The food was quite good. At the breakfast buffet I was not a fan of the powdered eggs so I stuck to buns with the butter and peanut butter that I had brought along...and there were plenty of pastries to fill up on. The 2 days they had eggs we sure took advantage. The dinner buffet always had fresh grilled fish and chicken, rice and a few pasta options. You will not go hungry. Again, always lots of pastries plus rice pudding and ice cream. The ala carte restaurants were excellent! We liked the Italian so much we went twice. The Caribbean was ok and the Romantico was quite good. We never had to line up to book and Brenda, the reservation girl was so nice. All in all, the only thing that would make me hesitate to go back was the lack of loungers. There was room for at least 50 more loungers around the pool. Let's hope this issue gets addressed.

SOOO DISAPPOINTED!

W e have been to Cuba so many times and absolutely love the people there, the feeling of security and their outstanding beaches but… My hubby and and I are very laid back and as long as the room is clean and we can get something half decent to eat ,we don’t complain. We are actually still here and the hotel shortages are very noticeable. The only time we have seen any bread was the first night here except at the snack bar daily where they have a very limited supply and use dinner rolls to put a hotdog wiener on.I have yet to see any type of bread in the morning for breakfast which sucks as I brought peanut and jam to tie us over as I read that eggs are scarce. We actually did see a few eggs this morning for the first time in 3 days.Usually they used powdered eggs which my husband wasn’t keen on. The rooms are dated but are clean and I haven’t seen any bugs around. We tried the Romantico a-la-carte and let’s just say it didn’t look edible and we actually got up and left.I still get nauseous when I think about what was on the plate .Not sure if we will brave another a-la-carte after that experience. The buffet has a lot of vegetable options, which would be great if you are a vegetarian (we are not).Haven’t seen a sign of bacon yet but weren’t expecting it.We have been surviving on chicken(which they cook on the grill as you wait),rice, potatoes and pasta dishes. The pool, which is my favourite place to be,is so dirty they actually have chairs put on their sides around the pool this morning so people can’t get in.The water was actually green yesterday and no one was going in the pool. Not sure if they didn’t have the chemicals to upkeep the pool due to shortages or what, but that is beyond disappointing to me as a pool person who likes to cool off in the pool while sunbathing. The chairs around the pool and on the beach are limited and if you don’t get out and mark one early in the morning, you won’t get one. Wish I had known all this before we came here,as I would have took my money and gone somewhere else. The “deal” we got wasn’t much of one with all the shortages here. I really hate writing bad reviews as I absolutely love Cuba and it’s people but we won’t be back until the situation here gets back to normal.Hope this saves some people from being disappointed with their trip as we are.
