    Quarantine Nightmare

We arrived in Barbados on Wednesday 11/18. We were aware of the quarantine protocols for the island which was not a problem. We arrived to the airport with our reservation not even showing in the system. In order to be allowed entry to the airport your hotel reservation must be visible. Once we got all this situated we were taken to the Barbados Beach Club Hotel. The one and only reason I am giving this property a 1 star is because Enrico was the best by far! His customer service & compassion warrants 4 stars just for himself. The hotel didn’t update their website as to their Covid quarantine rules so once we arrived to the hotel we were told that we have to stay on the 2nd floor only without use of any of the amenities and food would be brought up to us until we were given our negative test results. Then on Friday we would be moved to the ocean view room which was $1200 room we paid for. Enrico did apologize for the info not being updated but offered to ensure we would get better accommodations on Friday. We were supplied with cards & games for the room to keep us busy while we awaited our results which was awesome. Enrico scheduled our test for the following Thursday & we would be retested & spend one day on quarantine. The reason this place gets a 1 star is because of the dirt poor treatment we received from the workers on Thursday and because the photos of the hotel are stock photos and don’t match what’s on the website! On Thursday morning we were bought up breakfast & some juices. The food was cold & we weren’t given any condiments. It wasn’t a big deal because we were schedule to leave the hotel for our 2nd Covid test anyway so we figured it was just a fluke. We arrived back to the hotel around 2PM and this is when the day gets bad. Our lunch was delivered shortly after our arrival back & the food was cold. We asked the lady dropping our lunch off why we didn’t get a menu so that we could pick food options & also asked if we could get some extra drinks. The lady said to us in a rude attitude “what else would you like because I’m not coming back up here” as if it were our fault that she had to bring our food. We didn’t ask to be stuck in the room & have food delivered to us! That’s your hotel policy ma’am. The lady left & was suppose to bring us extra juices & a rum punch. After an 1.5 hr of waiting I attempted to call the front desk, no one would answer. So I decided to put a mask on & go down to the front desk to speak with someone. When I got downstairs the lady at the front desk told me to go ahead & go to the bar but another lady stopped me & yelled at me saying I wasn’t allowed out of my room under any circumstances because we were on the “quarantine floor.” By this time I was upset because I didn’t understand what the attitude was for. I once again asked can we get some service on the 2nd floor and with attitude the lady said “ I’ll see & walked away”! I went back to my room thinking this is insane. During this time I was like listen this treatment isn’t right! We are suppose to be in an all inclusive resort & we should get a hot meal each time & be able to pick our own food. Also with us being the only ones seemingly on the property we should at least be allowed to walk in certain areas not be subject to the four walls of our room! We shouldn’t be saving leftover water, juice & food because we aren’t sure when the next meal is going to be. It’s just not right. If you want to be a prisoner on this property & be treated like you are trash & less than then sure stay here. The staff workers are extremely rude & don’t want to try to help. The hotel is very dated & for the money you spend you for sure aren’t getting a 4 star treatment. We didn’t even have blankets on the beds! If not for Enrico & the kitchen manager lady that we spoke with on Friday I would give 0 stars. We never got to use any of the amenities or see the beach because once our results came back we decided to checkout & go elsewhere. Here are some photos of our nightmare!! We got small juices, puréed soups, cold entrees, trash bags delivered with towels & a room with trash piling up!!! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone especially if you have to quarantine. They really need to work on updating their photos, having better customer service, & updating their Covid protocols. Also their was no Covid rate offered either which other hotels are doing!

    Fantastic Hotel and Staff

We stayed at Barbados Beach Club from 26th Sept for 15 nights. Not the best of starts to our holiday as Virgin Atlantic left our luggage at Heathrow but the front desk staff were very helpful and advised us where to shop for essentials and clothes. Once this was sorted we could relax and start to enjoy the hotel and the location. Firstly our room (712) was on the top floor and had a fantastic view from the balcony. The room was like any typical Caribbean room, basic but large, comfortable and very clean. The maids visited the room every day and did a sterling job. Not that we watch TV whilst on holiday but the screen would make any Odeon jealous :-) The location of the hotel is great. It's on a quiet road and situated right on the beach front. The beach is pure sand with no rocks and it's easy to access the sea. Due to Covid the hotel is gradually returning to life and welcoming visitors back again. The GM (Gerry) has obviously worked hard behind the scenes to refurbish the hotel whilst lock down was in force. Procedures have been put in place and all staff and guests were adhering to the new way of life. As for the food, well, Julian the head chef and his team certainly know how to keep the guests happy. Because there were only a few guests at the hotel it would not of been economical to provide a normal menu. However, the choice was great and the food cooked to perfection. We both agreed this has been some of the best food we have been served whilst on holiday. Other members of staff who deserve a mention are Enrico behind the front desk, Sangean, Sandra and Michelle in the restaurant. We must stress that all staff were great but we can't remember all their names :-) Overall a great 15 night stay made even better when our luggage joined us on day 7 :-) Some of the older reviews seem a bit harsh and probably outdated. Highly recommend this friendly hotel and its ideal location.

All I can say is THANK YOU for making our first time to Barbados, a fantastic experience - ALL of your staff are an absolute credit to you. We've been home 5 days now and are looking forward to booking our next holiday with you. Covid has made an impact on Tourism in Barbados as a whole, but this has not stopped the Barbados Beach Club from delivering.

It blows my mind that Barbados Beach Club has a 3 star rating. If there were a negative score, I’d give it less than a star. I had the misfortune of staying there for 5 nights and my experience was by far the worst experience of any hotel I've stayed at. I’d go as far as to say it made me not want to return to the island at all. Not that my travel history matters, but apart from having worked in hospitality in the past and as a frequent flyer, I’ve stayed in everything from Air BNBs to 5 star luxury resorts in Amsterdam & Punta Cana among others. This in turn makes me no stranger to basic standards at each level. I really didn’t have much expectations based on the fact that it was a 3 star resort but for almost 200 USD per night, at the very least I expected basic customer service, a clean room and decent meals as this is advertised as an all-inclusive property. Perhaps my ignorance is to blame as I didn’t realize Barbados was so expensive having been there only once before to apply for a US visa. To be fair, a select few of the staff tried to make my stay a little more tolerable. But the vast majority clearly didn’t care, management being at the top of that list. It's clear that the nonchalant attitude is the culture from the top down, so I don’t anticipate it well get better anytime soon. Noteworthy for their stellar service amidst the chaos are Enrico (front desk agent), Raquel (waitress) & Sandra (hostess) from the resort. Also Michael the taxi I used while on island. Now, you would think that with the tourism industry being one of the most negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, properties would want to keep their guests happy so they would want to return and refer. Clearly Barbados Beach Club doesn’t fall in that category. My first impression before arriving at this property was "attitude". I emailed the property to hold my reservation and I felt like I had to chase the reservations agent throughout that process. Firstly, to confirm if they did taxi transfers (I had to ask several times before that part of my email was acknowledged and a response was provided). Secondly, once I finally got the information, I had to be the one to come back and ask if my transfer was confirmed on the day of my departure to Barbados. I get to the hotel and the front desk agent who greeted me upon arrival, while pleasant, had to juggle numerous guests at a time. Considering existing occupancy and expected arrivals that evening, he should've had help at front desk! I recall there was a guest who was visibly upset that she hadn’t had hot water for days and at one point had to switch rooms to shower. I remember thinking she was quite rude in her delivery but by the end of my stay there I was twice as frustrated as she’d been. Pictures of the room, much like the reviews online are misleading. This property is SUPER dated and could use a major face lift beyond a paint job. The room was cleanish. It honestly looked like a place where you didn’t want to touch anything for fear of catching something. The wifi connection was atrocious. In 2020, working wifi is a basic amenity even at the worst of hotels. When I called front desk to report the issue, they were clearly already aware yet for the 5 nights I stayed there I didn't have consistent connection once. I couldn’t get a connection anywhere on the property except my room and even that faltered. Advertising this as an amenity is dishonest. The food was just okay. Very hit and miss. To be honest, I can't say anything about this place blew me away other than the beach. By night 2 of my planned 5 night stay I began to have an allergic reaction all over my body. I've never had one in my life but my first thoughts were... the shower gel, the detergent being used to wash the bedding/ towels or the water (chlorine allergy). I began a process of elimination. First, I stopped using the shower gel and switched to an all-natural aloe soap sold at the resort's gift shop. After showering before dinner on night 3, my skin was itching incessantly for about a half hour after. I've never experienced such exasperation in my life. When it finally became tolerable, I told the front desk agent on my way down to dinner who said it may be the chlorine but offered no help thereafter and didn’t follow up. Day 4, I decide not to risk the water again. I was petrified of reliving the ordeal of the previous night. So I used purified bottled water to clean myself instead. Same all natural soap. The allergy was obviously still present as I hadn't sought treatment yet but the intense itching I'd experienced the night before didn’t happen. On my way down to breakfast I asked to speak to someone in authority to try to get a resolution for the remainder of my stay. A supervisor was called, Mrs. Yearwood. I explained the situation and was content to have purified water provided for the remainder of my stay... as uncomfortable as that would've been. She said she would refer my situation to her direct manager. I received a follow up call to inform me that as per the GM’s directive, I would have to purchase my own purified water with which to shower for the remainder of my stay (2 nights) since "there was nothing wrong with the water and it was safe to drink". I threatened to write a bad review and take legal action and Mrs. Yearwood's response was "Ok". A request to be credited in some way for the inconvenience was also declined. That day, I had scheduled a tour to and from Bridgetown so I purchased something from the pharmacy for my allergy and purified water as the resort refused to accommodate me in any way. I returned to the resort after the time lunch was served and headed to the BBQ station to get a burger since that was all that was available between lunch and dinner. When I saw no one at the grill I asked the hostess if burgers were being served. She said not yet and I noticed it was just a few minutes to the hour so I stood and waited. The hostess called Sonja, the young lady that was working the grill several times. The young lady exited the back, clearly in a mood, and strutted past me several times as she set up. So I waited some more. When one of her co-workers pointed out that I'd been waiting awhile she started to cuss at him and then turned to me saying she had a lot to do and I didn't even tell her what I wanted. She proceeded to scream at me if I wanted cheese on my burger. I was at a loss for words that this was the service I was receiving. I gave her a few choice words because I found her completely out of line. So in short, at the Barbados Beach Club, it's the guest's job to accommodate the staff not the other way around? Wow. That was the last straw for me. I didn’t even eat, I just went up to my room and called front desk asking if my final night could be refunded so I could go elsewhere. This request was likewise denied by the GM, who by the way never apologized for his staff’s behaviour or for the complete agony I endured with a full blown allergy I sustained AFTER checking into his resort. They could all see my skin and didn't care less. DON'T STAY HERE. YOU'LL REGRET IT.

Just returned after spending 2 wonderful weeks here and we had the best time. The hotel is being painted at the minute and they are making lots of improvements. The whole hotel is kept so clean and gardens well kept. Rooms are a good size, clean bedding and towels every day and a hot powerful shower. Safe and a fridge with a bottle of fizz in the room. There is a iron and ironing board and a hair dryer but I was glad I took my own as it wasn't the best. A/C worked really well. Small pool with plenty of sunbeds. Beach is so beautiful never had a problem getting a bed and a umbrella if you need one. Sea can be rough but it's lovely and warm. Lovely walk along the beach. St Lawrence gap is only about a 15 minute walk and Ostins is about 20 minutes walk and that's a must on a Friday night. Food at the hotel is delicious and although not loads of choice like you get at some bigger hotels we always found something we liked and the staff all work so hard . The Al a cart restaurant is out of this world you have to book up and can go every Monday, Thursday and Saturday so get booked up at the start of your holiday, the food is amazing and the staff are all lovely and attentive special thanks to Sanjean and Natalie. There is only one bar but service was good and never waited to long special thanks to all the staff especially Morrison. One complaint about the bar my favourite cocktail is a mojito and they never had any mint, I was told to ask the manager to get some at his cocktail hour which I did but still never got my cocktail but there were plenty of others to choose from. Most evenings they had some entertainment which were really good. We had the best time at this hotel and will definitely go back. Remember it's a 3 star hotel and a good price and you wont be disappointed. See you soon BBC xx
