There is way too much to type but I’ll say this. Do not under any circumstances book here or go to Ixtapa. Go somewhere else in the world. You will thank me later. Your wallet will thank me. Your stomach will thank me.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Barcelo Ixtapa for 9 nights March 2021. This is our 28th consecutive year returning to this Resort. Great location, excellent customer service and incredible meals. This is our second trip in what is know as the COVID period. The Resort and staff do a great job with all of the appropriate precautions. Senor Miguel Lopez and his Team always make each of our trips enjoyable, special and never cease to amaze us each year with such genuine kindness and personal touches of WOW! We are looking forward to a quick return. Gracias Sr. Lopez y todo su equipo por hacernos sentir siempre como en casa!!! Hector y Sandra

Visited the resort during Easter weekend. The check-in was pretty quick even though it was quite busy. We decided to upgrade to premier for the benefit of being able to have priority reservation at the non-buffet restaurants and more drink options. Two of the nights we were able to get reservations, but the third night we woke up late so we didn’t arrive to concierge on time to reserve. The first night we ate at the Kioto Japanese restaurant and the second night at the seafood restaurant. Both restaurants had plenty of options and the food was tasty. The third night we visited the lobby buffet and the options were decent as well. All four mornings of our stay we had breakfast at one of the buffets. For midday snack we visited the snack bar by the pool, make sure you dry up otherwise they won’t let you in. Drinks were definitely unlimited by the pool, I’m not sure what international drinks were offered through premier level since there was no menu or options anywhere. The pool area lounge chairs are reserved on a first come basis, so you have to get to the towel counter early in the morning to leave towels and a personal item at the lounge chairs you prefer. The towel counter system is not very well structured as the attendant simply takes down the number of towels and room number down, upon return of towels the same information is taken down in a notebook. I’m not sure if anyone really checks that towels are returned, maybe a new towel system or no system is needed. We noticed the lifeguard and security personnel are more than willing to do things for guests as long as the tip is worth it (bribe?). I think if people are willing to pay, then maybe the resort can have preferred seating or lounge areas by the pool for an extra cost. The pool staff kept moving umbrellas from some reserved spots to others and even move additional lounge chairs closer to the pool, for a nicer tip of course. We were fortunate enough to always be around our lounge area and close enough to the pool. The servers are very nice and polite, so that is the best way to get drinks. Reception forgot to send up our single complimentary bottle of sparkling wine two nights in a row until we walked down to ask for it. We had to park our own car probably due to COVID-19 guidelines, but at the time of check-out we were given the option to have our luggage taken to the car or to have our car brought to us. Overall, didn’t find much value in the premier upgrade besides the two confirmed dinner reservations. The room we booked was already classified as “superior” so we weren’t offered an upgrade (probably fully booked). The location is great and has convenient access to the beach with no real need to leave the resort boundaries, unless you’d like to explore a bit more.

Check in took about 30 mins . There was a couple in front of us when we showed up and they were pushing really hard to sell em a premium package . We stay in one if the “ villas “ facing the beach , awesome view but we’re in the 4th floor and it doesn’t have an elevator The food quality has gone down A LOT !!! This is our 4th time staying at a Barceló resort and the food is the reason we kept coming back . ( customer service , amenities, entertainment) is on par with the other Mexican resorts but the food was always the highlight The first day we checked in they told us they only had one restaurant open and the reservations were full. They told us to come back at 9am the next day to make a reservation I got there a 9:05 am . There was a line already and by the time I got the counter . The reservations were full . She proceeded to tell us is only 1 dinner every 3 nights . The previous times we stay we went to dinner every night without any issues The breakfast lunch and dinner options at the buffet have been significantly gone down it almost feel like one of those bottom of the food chain resorts ( which I’ve gone but also paid much less ) I wouldn’t come back here and probably not book another Barceló resort for a while . It’s a bummer since we really enjoyed the other barcelos at Manzanillo and Riviera Maya .
