This is the first time in all our travels I’ve ever rated a beach resort a 5 star. Beautiful beach; goes on forever. Beautiful view of a foot hills range. There are 3 villages attached to the resort: Sunset Village right on the ocean and Lagoon and Tropicana Villages across the Grand Boulevard. Sunset Village has 2 types of rooms: Oceanview and Standard. Standard rooms back onto Grand Bvld. Our Ocean View room was perfect. Spacious and well maintained. Rooms include a safe, fridge, coffee maker and WiFi. There’s free WiFi throughout the resort which seems to be a bonus these days. There are 2 pools at Sunset Village; children’s and regular which are never crowded. Breakfast is included which offers a great selection. You can order a la carte for lunch at the Brisa Mar on the resort. Unfortunately the beautiful buffet area only operates at breakfast. The resort owns 4 restaurants found along Grand Boulevard. We ordered pizza from NARI Pizza and Pasta. Excellent. There’s a bar on site. There are many shops along Grand Boulevard. The beach is public so beware if you choose to sit on a lounge chair with an umbrella it will cost you $20.00/day. There are lots of lounge chairs on the resort shaded by the lush vegetation. A true paradise.

We spent the second half of our week in Costa Rica here, arranged by Pacific Trade Winds. We arrived early evening in the dark but the newly renovated open and bright lobby welcomed us in. Check in was quick and easy. We stayed in the area across the street...and be aware that it is a busy street in the evening! There are staff stopping traffic though so no worries on that account. We stayed in a Family pool view room. The room was clean and comfortable. It’s not high end but we didn’t mind...it was totally adequate for our needs. The resort is beautiful and well tended. The included breakfast was great...lots of selection and lots of fresh fruit...plenty to start the day right! And the view...stunning! The resort is right in the middle of Tamarindo so easy access to all the shops and restaurants in the area. We found the resort restaurants to be mid-range in pricing and the food tasty. This resort is larger than we generally like but we enjoyed our stay here nonetheless. Thanks to all the friendly staff for a lovely few days on the Pacific coast!

Avoid this hotel!! Staff were rude from check in to the end of stay. Spent more time lecturing me on returning the towel card then welcoming me. Then a local threatened to beat up my son on the beach if he didn’t pay him $20 for a chair. And the security guard saw it and just shrugged his shoulders.

Great resort, just checked in last night, service good, so far everything is amazing... only reason not full 5 review is that we paid for an ocean view room, a big reason why we booked here to wake up facing the ocean and we’re facing the street :-( we asked to face ocean but $130/night upgrade

We found the property to be very scenic and clean. You arrive to an open air lobby which opens onto the beach. Check in was a little hectic and it was unclear how our luggage was getting up to our room, but it all worked out. We stayed in the rooms across the street from the main lobby. We were on the second floor (I didn't see an elevator if that is an issue for you). Your key card unlocks the gate and your room door. Our room was clean and quiet. The rooms have a balcony with a view of the pool. Very close to shops, restaurants, and there is even a grocery store nearby. You walk through the lobby directly onto a beautiful beach. The umbrellas on the beach outside the exit are rentals and all the chairs inside the wall on the grass are for use by any of the paying guests at the hotel.
