TRIP OF A LIFETIME!!

GoPlaces821764 (Concord, Massachusetts) on Apr 20, 2024

Visited during spring break with my husband, 12 and 10 year old. It was the trip of a lifetime!! The Westin is stunning. We had two junior deluxe suites, which were newly renovated and gorgeous. Plenty of space and it was nice for the kids to have their own room to hang. The pool is huge and beautiful. The swim up bar is great- my kids might have had 300 strawberry daqueries. Never a problem getting chairs and it was def a busy week. Restaurants are delicious and we found it very easy to get reservations through the app. We tried them all, and our faves were Spirula (Italian) and Manglar (seafood). Mirta is great for breakfast- great options for kids. Other reviews have mentioned that tipping goes a long way at the bar. I didn’t find that to be true. They seemed to treat everyone the same- tippers and non-tippers. We tipped everyone and it was definitely appreciated, but didn’t change the service at all. Erick Garcia was a HUGE help. You can find him on the beach with a blue Google shirt and a hat that’s says “Erick Garcia”. You can’t miss him. He arranged transportation for us to and from the airport ($90 each way), set us up with a sunset horseback ride (gorgeous!) and planned a full - day excursion to La Leona Waterfall (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING) and zip lining at Roble Ranch (9 different zip lines - so cool!) and an authentic Costa Rican lunch at the ranch. It was a long day, but action packed, and very very FUN! I can’t stress enough how beautiful the hike to the waterfall was. Erick is a very trustworthy and honest man.

Not a real Westin level resort.

carlp432 (Cashmere, Washington) on Apr 19, 2024

Well, I am not sure if the people whom have given such 5 star ratings have ever been to a 5 star resort. I have. This is not even close. It was built decades ago and retains that decades old charm and condition. There are iguana in the pool, vegetation floating all around, drinks are served in opaque Solo-like plastic cups as is beer. I understand the no glass at the pool, but a nice plastic cup is more appropriate for a resort of this type. We ate at the pool restaurant; food was okay. Oh, yeah we wanted a fruit smoothie being we were in the land of fresh fruit. I watched as the gal took that cheap plastic cup, poured syrup from the fridge into a blender with some ice. She blended it and poured it for me. That is something I would expect from a 1 star motel, not an $800 a night resort. We could not take it anymore and never checked to see what the rooms looked like. No wonder there was only 8 people at the large pool that day. They did refund our money and for that I applaud them.

Not really an Adult-Only experience.

Chez M (Texas) on Apr 19, 2024

We just left from a 5 day stay if you are looking for a family vacation, probably going to love it, we would have enjoyed every minute here with our kids. That being said, we are empty nesters who usually frequent adults-only resorts. This was our first non adult vacay in quite a while and though we encountered nothing but well behaved children, the resort does not provide an adult only experience. We stayed in a club room which gave us access to an adult pool which was pretty but it was boring. Would have been nice to have some entertainment, not all day, but I would have done water aerobics or even enjoyed some afternoon music but all activity was at the main pool. All the dinner restaurants were kid-friendly. Would be nice to have a club restaurant for adults. All bars allow kids, I get evening entertainment, but sitting at the imperial bar at 1030 having some drinks and a little fun with a 10 year old next to me at the bar top is not ideal. Hotel should consider an adult only time after like 9 or something. Everything else was pretty basic. Food was average and largely flavorless, service for dinner ranged from 30 min to 90 min depending on your luck I suppose. Bar options were meh as well, Jack Daniel’s being the premier liquor for club members is not all that premier. It wasn’t all bad, the beach was EVERYTHING! One of the most beautiful we have seen. Every morning we ask them to bring us chairs to the shady spot as far down the beach as they can (past the kids) and it was lovely. Breezy, water was perfect and clear and we spent every morning there. The room and bed were great no complaints. (You can call and request a feather pillow if you prefer). I don’t always sleep well on vacation and we slept like babies every night. Costa Rica itself is beautiful and we enjoyed the people and wildlife. We will be back to Costa Rica, I don’t think Westin is for us, despite the beautiful beach.

Wonderful family vacation in Costa Rica

Kma3202 (Boston, Massachusetts) on Apr 19, 2024

We just returned from our April vacation and we had an absolutely wonderful time at the Westin. Our room was great, overlooking the golf course with a 5 minute walk to the pool and restaurants. Our air conditioner worked well, which was necessary considering temperatures were close to 100 degrees each day. The room was clean and had plenty of space for our family of four. Our kids, twins age 9, loved the pool and the unlimited drinks at the pool bar. They played volleyball and water polo and loved making new friends. We ate at the Italian restaurant twice and enjoyed the bruschetta - especially the pesto. We also enjoyed Bamboo and the steakhouse. At the steakhouse, we highly recommend ordering the short rib - delicious. The service throughout the resort was incredible. Everyone was so attentive and friendly, it made our experience so special. Lastly, as many have recommended, we booked a number of excursions with Erik (with the blue shirt on the beach). These excursions made our trip. Erik is an honest and trustworthy man who will go above and beyond to make your trip special. Our families favorites were the Leona waterfall hike and the jet ski cave tour. The waterfall hike was beautiful and just the perfect level of adventure for our family. We loved the jet ski tour as well, a beautiful way to see the coast and the kids loved exploring the caves with our guide. Erik also arranged transportation to and from a dinner off property one night at Gracia at Mar Vista. This restaurant was one of the highlights of our trip. Phenomenal view, drinks and food. Highly recommend for a special dinner out. Overall, we were very happy with our stay at the Westin and would recommend to those looking for an exceptional stay in Costa Rica.
