We arrived a bit early to check-in and instead of turning us away because our room wasn't ready yet we got upgraded. I think we were supposed to have a standard room and we got what felt like an apartment. Full-size fridge and stove. Everything was clean and I was never even woken up by a rooster. The property made me feel relaxed it was a perfect way to spend our honeymoon.

Great location, but parking and room maintenance were problems

We had a second floor suite, with no elevator available. This was not a problem for us. The unit was spacious. The kitchen was adequately equipped, and we fixed some meals there. The closet had beach chairs, a cooler, two boogie boards, and two sets of snorkel gear. The mattress was soft, and caved in badly on the edge. I slept sideways in order not to have a sore back. As instructed, we turned off the air conditioning while away. This too was fine; the room temperature was never an issue. The place is advertised as 100 yards from the beach. That is a bit generous. Even if you measure from the edge of the parking lot to the first bit of open sand, it is farther than that. Parking was a problem. We were in the very south end of building A. The nearest (southernmost) parking lot was smaller than others because the front desk is there. The lot was open to inhabitants of buildings A, B, and C, and was almost always full. People (including Security) frequently double-parked in the lot. The next parking lot borders buildings C, D, E, and F. Tenants of Building C could just as well park there. I never saw that second lot full, but it was a long walk for us, and not a pleasant one when you are lugging beach gear, muddy shoes, backpacks etc. back from a day out adventuring. Plantation Hale Suites really ought to restrict the small south lot to building A and B tenants only. Color-coded parking passes would make this easy. Speaking of the front desk, Phil was so incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Two thumbs up for Phil! Other than the mattress, we really had only one problem with our room, and it was a big one. The two sliding glass doors and sliding screen doors (one in the bedroom, one in the living room) were very difficult to open. The glass door in the bedroom even went off track once and I had to lift it back into place. The living room screen door appeared to be jammed, but I was able to jolt it into moving. Both pairs of doors were a huge problem the whole time during our stay. We frequently opened the doors, just to have fresh air, or to hang damp clothes outside on the deck to dry. We chose not to complain about it while we were there, because we didn’t want maintenance staff interrupting us. But the sliding doors could only have gotten as bad as they were through intentional neglect. We paid a lot in fees, 50% above the quoted nightly price. We deserved to not have to deal with neglected maintenance. Everything else was good. We were able to walk to the Coconut Marketplace, where there was a Chicken in an ABC Market, several shops, a Barrel BBQ restaurant, and a JoJo’s Shave Ice.

Pre Covid-19 visit with family was as usual AWESOME. Kauai never disappoints. Since our last visit the Island has improved beaches and streets. Loved the first saturday of every month in Kapaa with live music. It was beautiful.Mahalo until we meet again.

We arrived at our unit on Friday. Misinformation from front desk led us to spend hours waiting till we could enter our unit. Beach access is filled with bums and druggies and staff frequently telling you not to leave doors open because of the homeless, doesn't feel super safe. The rooms are lacking some basics for the kitchen, like a baking dish and kitchen shears and the ovens/microwaves/coffee pot are tiny. My stepmom had a run-in with front desk staff who told her she shouldn't be here when she was asking for towels. We have been quarantining/isolating to our rooms and open spaces and do not deserve this disdain from supposed "hospitality" staff when we are abiding by all the public health rules. Won't be coming back here.

Front desk staff was nice. Terrible security guard that is super rude and is the one that checks you in late at night. Rooms are in need of some serious updating. Pools on the grounds weren't bad. The cleaning crew did a mediocre job.
