Rundown, Rude Staff and bad food. Don’t waste your money

jstarr44 (washington DC) on Apr 17, 2024

We are emerald members of exotic travelers and have visited several azul beach properties. The membership is built on gourmet all inclusive experiences. This was not gourmet, it was gross. This one is not even close to the level of luxury and service of the other properties. The trip had so many issues I stopped taking notes on day 4 of 8. Day 1- had to visit 4 bars before someone could make an espresso martini. All of the bar tenders rolled their eyes and made us feel like we were putting them out to serve us. Buffet dinner at mahogany was gross and there were few options. Room service took hours and arrived cold. Day 2- no tomato juice available at 8:30am on a spring break Saturday for bloody Marie’s. No edible fruit, it was all poor quality. Beach was nice but the stalking from the local merchants is constant and you have to just pay them off for them to leave you alone. Over the course of the trip we continued to suffer from items we requested that were out of stock. There was no salt and pepper at the restaurants. There were no snacks for the kids in the room and a bag of chips in the gift shop was $13. We asked for 7:30 dinner reservations and were told because we were 7 people that was too late and were booked for 6:30 nightly. Restaurants were just ok. The bright spots were the beach and the butlers Rashane and Shari who were wonderful and accommodating. The spa was also good except the hydrotherapy was out of order. We work hard and like to enjoy a luxurious spring break and this resort was a huge disappointment. The property is in need of a renovation and the management needs an upgrade yo fix the supply chain and staff attitude issues. We will never be going back.

Azul Beach Resort, Negril

We stayed at Azul for 2 weeks and could have stayed longer!! Our Butlers and the staff made our stay even more special. Shout out to our Butlers Tamara, Dwayne and Markland. Shanicka at the grill always on point with our lunch. Can’t wait for our next vacation next year.

Don't Go

120arlenet on Apr 11, 2024

The hotel is run-down. Furnitures are dingy and old. Cracks in the structure of the building. Staff begging for our personal items. Food needs flavor. We paid for the rooms with the swim out pools, well let's say i never when in the pool it was dingy and dirty. Checking in was a nightmare...Rooms were not ready... This hotel was recommended by a wedding planner, after hearing about our experiences promised never to send her clients there. We had over 100 family members and friends who stayed for at least 5 night, and had nothing good to say about Azul beach resort... I felt bad for my Neice who paid an astronomical amount of money to have her dream wedding there, after the wedding my Neice had a meeting to discuss her disappointments, only for them to offer a steak dinner for her not to give a bad review.

A wonderful resort!

So after reading lots of really quite negative reviews in the lead up to our stay, we were a little worried… thank god we didn’t listen! I’ll start with a few minor things, as I feel like that’s what I’ve seen in most of the bad reviews - the resort would sometimes run out of some ingredients, i.e mint, Nutella, beach towels were hard to get your hands on every day, you did need to be up reasonably early to reserve a bed in a good spot (although there were some beds left later on in the day, we just wanted them in a certain area and liked getting to early to enjoy the day anyway). A few very small teething issues, which I feel like you see anywhere you go. So if you sweat the small stuff, maybe that’s where the bad reviews are coming from. We had the BEST time at Azul - the beach is just gorgeous. Waking up there every morning was incredible! We used the free kayaks and paddle boards a few times which were fab. There’s lots of other watersports about you can pay for, too. We had drinks orders taken on the beach, (adult area), and drinks brought to us which we relaxed. We stayed in the premium swim up suite in the adults only section and it was amazing - we had a swim up bar attached which was really enjoyable. There’s lots of reports of broken chairs on the beach, but we didn’t see any. Our room was kept super clean too every day and everything worked just fine for the 10 days we were there, i.e running water and so on. The staff were brilliant - Kaydene, Alphonso, Camille and Novalette were all incredible. They made our stay! The staff are super personal and can’t do enough for you. Our favourite restaurant was the Italian, the Asian and Palms for breakfast. They were all wonderful! There’s sometimes a bit of a wait for food in the evening restaurants, but we were happy drinking our wine! The Jamaican was okay, but the Jamaican BBQ on the beach surpassed it. The entertainment was good too - rum tasting in Nesta Lounge, reggae band, and so on. There’s great premium spirits across the resort included, you just have to specifically ask for them. The whole resort had a lovely, chilled vibe, and we absolutely loved it. I honestly wouldn’t listen to the negative reviews. Maybe if you’re used to touring 5 star resorts every year, maybe the teething issues aren’t for you. But if you’re chilled, wanting good vibes, fun and sun, Azul is fantastic and you won’t regret going! Jamaica is the best!
