Most of what is on offer here is in the name: grand = large, which it certainly is; and the second most common meaning of legacy = something coming from the past, which it most certainly is. Flanked by a range of other lodging establishments of varying standards, this sprawling 60s-era (if not in construction, at least in design) motel-style hotel sits almost opposite the Disney Park main entry on Harbor Boulevard. Paint has been used in ample quantities to keep it on life support so first impressions are OK until you get a glimpse beyond the veneer of modernity at lodgings that would, in a more discerning marketplace, have long ago been razed and replaced. The good: reception was efficient albeit a little perfunctory. The valet parking attendants (parking $17/day) were cordial and accommodating. My reserved king room with hot tub (132) was clean, roomy and functionally decorated in a nondescript chain hotel style. Most expected amenities were there and most of them worked as expected – see below for what wasn’t or didn’t. The king bed was comfortable, the linens clean and there were enough pillows for me to find a favourite. The bathroom was of adequate size, adequately appointed and well lit. The included Wifi worked well on all my devices. The bad: there is no outlook whatsoever from the room and the only natural light enters through a letterbox-slot above a cinderblock wall immediately beyond the room’s only window, so you basically need the lights on at midday to see anything; a solitary confinement cell was my immediate impression. There is no in-room safe – despite that the hotel recommends using one. Whilst ample, the bath towels are small, thin and well worn. The ugly: the air-conditioning unit is an under-window relic that makes more noise than an express train in full flight and was probably outmoded when the hotel was built so, unless you come supplied with polar pyjamas you’ll almost certainly need to use it during LA’s chilly winter nights because the duvet cover is perilously thin and there were no spare blankets in the room. The plumbing is yet another vestige of the mid-twentieth century – or earlier – and the water issuing from the shower head varies, according to the settings on the dyslexic faucet, between a narrow mist and a gushing dribble.

    Noisy on the weekend

We stayed here on a Friday night hoping to wake up early in the morning for Disneyland. After putting my kids to bed, music started blasting as if a rock and roll band was in the next room. It woke my kids out of a sound sleep. I called the front desk and they said they had rented out their rooftop bar and It would continue to go on until midnight. He said there had already been multiple complaints. On top of all that, we could hear the water running through the pipes in the walls and the doors and TV from the adjacent room. Super thin walls I guess. Very disappointed after paying peak weekend rates for the room. Close walk to Disneyland but obviously not family friendly. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was nicely furnished but very small.

    Great hotel and reasonably priced

We booked this hotel due to its close proximity to Disneyland. The room was only 159.00 per night which I thought was a wonderful price for being during Christmas! The check in process was easy and the clerk was polite and helpful. The room was a decent size for the 4 of us and was extremely clean! We didn’t spend a whole lot of time at the property because we stayed at Disneyland from open to close the 3 days/nights we were there. The property even allowed us to leave our car parked in the parking lot after check out for an additional fee which we were fine with! We would definitely stay at the Grand Legacy again for our Disneyland trips!

Have stayed at this hotel over a handful of times and the past several stays there has been a consistent decline in efficiency and cleanliness. We got into our room at 8:30 tonight and had no hot water to shower. After calling the front desk several times, maintenance came to our room and told us he would be back. He didn’t return so I called the front desk and was told the entire new tower was out of hot water due to mechanical issue and we wouldn’t have hot water tonight. They offered for us two walk outside to one of the older rooms to shower and then walk back, but being two women traveling alone we opted not to do that. As we finally gave up on a shower after a long day and got into bed, the beds looked like they haven’t been changed and they had a weird odor. We’re so exhausted that we decided to sleep on top of bed with a blanket we brought from home. Overall a terrible experience.
