TRS Cap Cana Hotel

We just returned from a 7day vacation and I have to say it was wonderful. Despite all the negative news recently in the DR, I never once felt nervous. Just the opposite, I felt very comfortable and safe the entire time. The resort was beaitiful and the service was genuine. Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. This resort is very quiet, relaxing and above all very open and inclusive to all people. I especially want to thank our butler Frank and the head butler Nathaniel. Nathaniel was attentive to our every need. I can't thank Juan Luis from the restaurants services. He showed such professionalism, kindness and always made sure we were pleased with the food and service. He is a tremendous asset to the hotel. We also enjoyed Macarla who was in charge our daily activities. She was kind, friendly and she made all the actives so much fun. We also were very entertained by Charly who was funny and constantly making us smile. Also a big thank you to Carla who made us our daily coffee and specialty drinks, she was super friendly and always was making sure we were satisfied. Tremendous people that made our stay even better and well worth returning. Thank you.

We spent our last week at this hotel and we really have a terrible experience. The staff was good but the service and the food was horrible. We’ll never come back at this hotel and of course we’ll never ever recommend it.

This review will be very HONEST. TRS Cap Cana is a great adults only resort. If you are looking for peace and quiet and time to just recharge and reconnect with your travel partner, this is the place for you! Our butler Frank was so awesome. He was attentive and kind and got me anything and everything I asked for to include super glue when I damaged one of my heels. :-) . The wait staff in the restaurants were great and they did EVERYTHING to make our experience amazing. The food itself was "meh", with the exception of the Japanese restaurant, that one was awesome. The drinks were fantastic and waiters came right to our swim out suite to bring them to us as we relaxed. The spa was fabulous, I scheduled and received the BEST facial and message I have ever had in my life!!! The hotel itself was fantastic.....however, there was one major issue, the outside smell. Unfortunately, they are located in an area where seaweed collects and it takes a lot for them to remove it. It also doesn't help that their next door neighbors do not remove their seaweed, and the smell carried over to the TRS property. We grew up on the farm, so we got used to it, but if you have a weak stomach in the slightest, then I do not recommend staying here. Again, the people and staff are amazing, and it was exactly what we were looking for, so we did not let the smell ruin our experience.

First off, you should ignore the 1 star reviews on this resort. After a week here, my wife and I read the 1 star reviews thinking “how could anyone not love this place"? Some of the things talked about in those reviews are blatantly untrue. Ok, into our review of the resort. We had a wonderful honeymoon week here at the TRS Cap Cana. Starting from the airport, we were transported the roughly 15 minutes in a private car to the resort. Upon arriving, Samuel was the first to greet us. He is a bellhop and one of the funniest guys I’ve met. I’ve joked with him everyday and he always has something whitty to say. We met our butler, Frank, at check in where we were given cold towels and a mimosas immediately. From there, Frank took us on a tour around the resort while explaining the different restaurants, bars and amenities. All of the butlers we interacted with spoke English well (Frank man, I’m still impressed that you taught yourself English by listening the Metallica). From there, Frank dropped us off in our room where Samuel already had our luggage waiting for us. At this time, Frank showed us how to use the safe, get on the WiFi, reminded us not to drink the tap water and then gave us his personal cell # to get ahold of him anytime. After settling in, we first tried Helios which was our favorite of the restaurants. Helios is great for both food and drinks. Our first night we met our bartender Antonio. Antonio is a legend. We had a total blast hanging out with him. In fact, we lost track of time and ended up having an awesome conversation with a bunch of the resort staff. This is when we met Sanchez, who works in the restaurants. My wife had talked about wanting to try Dominican food like Mangú. Sanchez invited us back for lunch the next day where he made us a special meal of Mangú with Whitefish (INCREDIBLE) the next night he asked us to come for dinner where he and Mario, another one of the many phenomenal chefs made us a Dominican dinner spread that would rival even the best thanksgiving day feast. They did all of this out of the kindness of their hearts. This is the level of hospitality we felt the entire week from the full staff. When you go to lunch at Helios, ask from Juan Luis. He’s a great young man who works incredibly hard. We told him we wanted to practice our Spanish so he would have us read our order to him in Spanish each day and help our pronunciation. He could be waiting on 6 or 7 tables at once and still make each table feel like they had his undivided attention. He’s talented, funny and an all around kind person. For dinner, we often had Bladimir as our waiter. He’s a blast. He’s got a ton of energy and knows how to have a good time. During one of the beach party dinners, they had live music and a traditional Dominican buffet. It was really neat to see many of the staff enjoying themselves with their guests. We felt like family, eating and dancing. Izakaya was the next best in our opinion. Great Japanese food and part of the restaurant is indoors which is air conditioned in case it’s a little to hot to eat outside. Geomar was our waiter both nights we ate at Izakaya and did a very good job. The sushi is delicious and fresh and the meal portions are rather large. El Gaucho was our least favorite of the 3 dinner restaurants. Nothing wrong with it at all, we just had the outlook that we could get a good steak back home and wanted to branch out a bit. Wonderful staff and the appetizers and dessert were very good. At the pools, Julio and Rasél (not sure if I spelled that right) were the main bartenders we had. The swim up bar is a good time, but I do wish it stayed open a bit later than 6:00p. Marcos was the best runner for the pool area. He was always available, always remembered what you were drinking and rarely let your cup go empty. At one point he saw us talking with another couple who were also celebrating their honeymoon. The next day he brought extra towels and pool floats to help “save seats for your friends”. He is a really sharp guy with a great memory and personality. Escarla is the last person I want to specifically mention. She organizes and runs many of the daily activities ranging from Spanish lessons to Yoga to Salsa lessons. We took a Spanish lessons with her and for the rest of the week she would make sure to pop by and quiz us, joke around a bit and tells us about upcoming activities. There are so many other people that helped make our trip great. Housekeeping comes twice a day and always leaves the room spotless with the minibar stocked. Full disclosure, the resort is smaller which made it quieter and more intimate. Also, there is not a true “beach”. This resort is located in the Marina, so ocean swimming is a no-go although you still get wonderful ocean views. We did not take advantage of the free shuttle to the true beach, but honestly laying poolside with awesome service was hard to leave. Overall, we had a phenomenal experience. The TRS staff as a whole was fantastic. We would come back in a heartbeat! As long as you aren’t looking for a “spring break party” vibe, this resort will be a hit for you.

Stayed here for my honeymoon and loved it. The butler service (Jenfry was ours) is most helpful as the perfect communication system with the hotel - you can text them with questions or requests large and small and get whatever you needed, from one point of contact. So convenient! We also took advantage of many of the planned activities at the hotel, like karaoke night and a pool party. We had a great time learning salsa with Escarla, wonderfully breaking up the rest of the time spent lounging poolside.
