The hotel tells the story of it’s past glory and Havana’s past attraction for the party/ gambling mobster crowd. There are photos on the walls of famous visitors and guests of the hotel. We didn’t spend the night- we just had a drink at the bar. We found the hotel to be in better condition than other places we visited in Havana, though not much has been done in terms of refurbishment in 60 years. This is the Cuba of the old rich famous and corrupt.

Probably the most iconic hotel in La Habana filled with history and stories of a bygone era. You could feel the days of old of the hotel as you walked its historic halls. Even the elevators had an old and enticing charm. Found that the service was really good. Takes a bit longer than what you would expect in other parts of the world to check-in and check-out, but nothing terrible I would add. We stated on the "Executive floor" on the 6th level that has its own front desk and breakfast area. The breakfast that is included was surprisingly really good! Had a good variety of options plenty of room. As per the rooms, we booked a room for 2 adults and 3 kids. The room we got while comfortable was by no means designed for 5 people. The two beds were probably full size. In the end, we adapted. Bathroom was spacious and with full amenities. The bar area in the garden was a great place to relax and have a good mojito along with a nice Habano after a long day of touring the town. Only minor incident was with an obnoxious American yelling bad words at a couple (he really didn't care that there were kids around) which the hotel's security was quick to control. To get to Old Habana, you can grab a cab for about 10 - 12 CUCs one way. There is really not much to do next to the hotel, so grabbing one to Old Havana is probably your best shot. Overall a good hotel.

It is not a 5 * hotel, neglected furniture, curtains and old ornaments, totally outdated ... excessive price for the services it offers: very slow wifi, poor breakfast, neglected pool, water-wasting fridge and safe that does not close. ..a disaster!!

    Beautiful Grounds But Poor Service

We stayed here 3 nights. When we first arrived, we were very impressed. A beautifully decorated hotel with fabulous grounds. The room was lovely and appointed well, with conformable beds. But the service - horrible. Ruins the whole place. When we go there there were no towels in the room. We called and some were brought up. Then the next day there was one towel when we returned. The next day the maids never showed up - so no towels and the toilet paper basket overflowing. Maids never came back - by third day the place stank from the overflowing trash pails. I went out into hall and flagged down someone to get dry towels. Another service issue was the money exchange. The one in the hotel has no one there much of the time, even though it says there will be. Never had the bills or coins needed. Just very frustrating. Of all the staff in the lobby, only one gentleman was friendly and smiled. After being in Remedios for 3 days, where everyone friendly and smiling, it was a downer to walk around this hotel.

We were on a old car tour and requested to stop here for a look and a mojito. Beautiful hotel, we sat in the inside very nicely air conditioned lobby/bar....all pictures of past guests lined the walls. A trio of musicians seranded us with a lively Cuban song while we enjoyed our Mojitos. We then walked the grounds (a peacock strolled by) and had our picture taken with a waiter! Lovely hotel!
