Absolutely Great!

I so enjoyed our stay, as well as the family members we joined. The rooms were good, cleaned well, and always fresh towels. Sometimes the cleaning staff would leave swans, hearts, etc. The grounds are maintained very well and the fellows working were always friendly and would say hello with a smile! The beach is beautiful, and relaxing. The activities staff were amazing, remembering your name. I’d like to give a special thank you to Yoramis, beach activities and Yuya by the pool for their patience teaching me to dance. We laughed and added so much fun to my holiday! Also, Edgar, the DJ, who went out of his way to find me a charger for my phone, as mine had broke. Everyone had a smile on their face, all of the time. My cleaner, Oslady was a real gem! She brightened each day with her laughter. Thank you! The food was scarce, but they did very well to offer choices. I have never eaten more healthy on a holiday! I would definitely return. I made a ton of new friends there from all over the world! I would recommend it if you are looking for a more personable, friendly resort. Thank you to all! ????

We would not recommend going to this resort. We stayed there as a family (2 adults, 2.5 year old) for 1 week. We don't go to Cuba for gourmet, fine dining. We understand it's Cuban food but the shortages were abundant; no rum (4 days), no bread (4 days), no vodka (entirety), no beer (4 days), no coffee (1 morning), no milk (there was warm, I'm guessing, powdered milk in the buffet at breakfast but no other milk during the day), no pastries/sweets (but ice cream for dessert and animal cookies or wafer cookies, if you were lucky to get any before the kids filled their plates), no cereal at all, etc. We had butter a few days (including 1 day when there was no bread to put it on?), eggs most days but there were powdered eggs 2 days. Very repetitive (same pasta dishes for dinner, pork on the grill, fried rice on the grill at lunch). As for vegetables and fruit; we had cucumbers a couple of days, bananas 3 days (we actually bought a bunch on the beach from a walking vendor because we hadn't had any in 4 days!). There was quite a bit of peppers and tomatoes often (cooked and raw). There was always fish at dinner, but it was difficult to tell what it actually was. Our room was nothing special; the door to the washroom stuck (my husband had to push the door in to get me out a few times), the safe didn't work for 3/7 days despite them replacing the mother board, batteries and us paying $2/day for it. There was a giant cockroach on the floor when we walked in (we get it, tropics, but it was LONG dead, which means that room hadn't been occupied nor cleaned in a while) and the toilet didn't work our first evening but we were able to fix it on our own. We were in the 100 block of rooms; it was a central location, really close to the pool. When we checked in, the front desk was unfriendly and unhelpful. When we were asked if we wanted a drive to carry our luggage to our room, we said no and we were promptly sent on our way having no idea where to go. When my husband went back a while later to find out where something else was, he was rudely asked "don't you have a map?" to which he replied "yes" and they told him to look at it. The wifi is tricky to use and good luck receiving any instructions from the staff at the front desk. After some playing around, we were able to figure it out on our own. There were no beach towels most days being given out (they're usually given at the cabana near the pool). Bring your own if you're going to. They'll say "no smoking" at the swim up bar, but then make exceptions for some people. It makes for a very overall unpleasant experience in the pool. The poolside entertainment in the afternoon was nothing spectacular; repetitive games (coin toss), it was very loud music being blasted from the speakers which at times were not kid-friendly with swearing and vulgar language, very minimal kid activities (again, coin toss) despite being targeted for children/families. There was a magician/comedian one day for the kids. There is a kid pool. It was usable most of the days but our last day it was completely emptied (guessing due to the filtration system?). A handler with a camel was there on the Saturday of our stay, offering rides to anyone who wanted one around the pool area (unknown cost). The evening entertainment varied but seemed to mostly If you're booking this hoping to use the babysitting and kid's club; don't. It was completely gutted and undergoing renovations. The playground is in complete disrepair and unusable. We booked this resort in anticipation of using this service for an hour here and there so that we could enjoy some adult time together, but were VERY disappointed to see it closed once we arrived. Additionally, this is something that needs to be passed any time you want to access the beach, which means we continuously had to tell our son it was closed. The disco was closed. We were told in a different forum that it was being renovated but there was absolutely no activity going on in that space. The gym and spa were both closed the entirety of our stay and looked like it hadn't been opened in a while. The tennis courts were closed and one was being completely torn up. The a la carte menu located behind the buffet main dining room is still under renovations but we were told that that restaurant had been relocated to the restaurant closest to the beach. IF you want a la carte, you need to line up before 10 AM and wait in a lengthy line and hope to get a few spots. If you are not Roc Plus, you will not get more than 3 a la carte dinner reservations. Our room cleaner Madely was very friendly. She did a great job making our beds and doing a quick clean of our floors and replacing our towels and in room water bottles. She respected our wishes of coming back later in the afternoon after our son woke from his nap (we left a note on the door and she would come back after). She was the great - I hope you get her if you go here!!! If you have the Sunwing rep Magda, good luck. Fairly awful to deal with. Unpleasant, unfriendly, unapproachable, brisk... I could go on with how she was. The staff at the resort, overall, were unfriendly with a couple of outliers. For the most part they weren't outwardly rude, but we did have a few encounters where we were blatantly ignored while others were served first. I was dismissed while holding my son at the lobby bar 3 times by the same bartender in a 5 minute period. He kept raising his hand in dismissal and finally the secondary bartender took our drink order; it got to the point I would not utilize this bar, only sending my husband who would get service. The beach was nice. It's the same beach all along Varadero. White sand. There were a lot of lounge chairs but people claimed them before 9 AM and still weren't down there by 11 when we would head back up to the resort with our son. There is no sand bar, so it's not a super calm section of beach if there's any bit of wind but it was still fun to go in and enjoy some water. There are catamarans, a couple of paddle boats and kayaks. You can snorkel right off the beach if you want but its not abundant with coral or anything. I was eaten alive by mosquitoes on our terrace. My husband and son minimal bites. Bring bug spray - better to have it and not need it, then regret it (I had it on and still got a lot of bites) Our overall experience would have us not return to Cuba anytime soon. The differences between resorts is crazy and for the amount of money we paid, we did not get all inclusive. And I'm not about to pack my own bread, rum, and butter in my suitcases; that's NOT all inclusive when I need to bring all of my own supplies.

Beautiful beach and beautiful landscape! The staff in the resort were very friendly, considerate and professional . Food was all right, meat, fish, fresh vegetables and fruit. It seemed they run out of flour for 2-3 days, on these days, no bread in the morning. Rooms were clean but some repairs were needed. One of our rooms had a big gap on top of the door, letting mosquitoes get in at night. We had to ask the front desk to reactive the room cards several times during our 1 week stay because the cards just couldn’t open the door after several uses. Our cleaning lady, Yanea is very sweet, attentive, and helpful. She is very great at her job and made each one of us feel comfortable and cared. The pool was a lovely place to stay and it was well maintained. We also had a lot of fun swimming in the sea, life guards were very responsible and alert. We didn’t bring our own beach towel like lots of other people did. We waited a couple days to get the hotel beach towels because the delivery from outside was delayed. We could feel the hardship Cubans were enduring after the pandemic and hope things will get better soon. We will be back!
