The announcement was featured in an email sent on September 4, 2020 to WestJet Rewards members subscribed to promotional email communications.

  1. Top-tier status and benefits (including available lounge and seat selection vouchers) will be extended to December 31, 2021 for all current Platinum, Gold and Silver members.
  2. The current qualifying period for all members will be extended to December 31, 2021, giving members more time to achieve or retain Platinum, Gold or Silver status.
  3. WestJet Rewards will transition from a variable qualifying period to a standard calendar year qualifying period, starting on January 1, 2022.

Updates will take place by September 30, 2020 for Platinum, Gold and Silver members, along with WestJet RBC® credit card holders and those whose current qualifying period ends on September 30, 2020. Updates for all remaining existing members will take place no later than October 31, 2020. Members who join after September 4, 2020 will see the extension approximately 30 days after enrolment.

No, companion vouchers and other vouchers issued as milestone awards are separate from tier benefits and will maintain current expiry dates. Available companion vouchers were previously extended to January 31, 2021.

Here’s how we calculate it:

  • 20% of your base package price for eligible WestJet Vacations packages completed in your qualifying period.

Tracking of program activity during a standard January to December calendar year is a common practice and is currently in use by most North American airline programs. This will make it simpler for members to track progress and plan for achievement of qualifying spend through typical planning cycles and also allows members of the same household or company who typically travel together to achieve and enjoy tier status benefits during the same time period.
