No self-respecting tourist or native would miss the Canada Day Celebrations. It is celebrated every July 1st on the anniversary of the enactment in 1867 of the Constitution Act, which created what was then known as the Dominion of Canada. Charlottetown, as the birthplace of the Confederation, puts on quite a show at Victoria Park. The opening ceremonies begin before noon with a flag-raising, birthday cake and 21-gun salute. Afterwards there is a series of live music performances until the fireworks show at 10p. There are also plenty of family activities at the park, including horse rides, face-painting, bouncy houses, a petting zoo and more.
