Summary - Hyatt bought this brand a couple of years ago for megabucks and they are no doubt trying to recoup their multi-billion dollar investment. The buildings were not new but well maintained. There were few electrical outlets and no usb charging ports in the rooms The pool area appeared to be new and was nice but insufficient seating for every guest. Overflow to the beach worked but involved a bit of a trip to the bano. Food quality was ok but portions were small. I ordered onion rings and I received two onion rings. Seemed a bit stingy. My biggest tell that things changed at Secrets since their buy out was their tequila offerings. No anejo tequilas and Cuervo at the bar. Cuervo ?, that is just a sad offering in the land of Tequila My longer reflection follows: My wife and I attended a destination wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres in May 2023. I previously stayed at Secrets properties prior to their acquisition by Hyatt hotels but this was my first time post acquisition. As with many Mexican resorts we drove under a very large and beautiful entrance and were transported to an open and airy registration center. We were offered champagne and promptly checked in. Then we started to notice changes. Pre Hyatt acquisition there were no timeshare sales pitches but that is no longer the case. The new Secrets now sells timeshares for their resort community with the typical 90 minute presentation. We politely refused the offer which was accepted with grace by the employee. We were transported a short distance to the resort. It is just a guess but I suspect that Secrets purchased the property and updated it as the architecture was unremarkable and no different than several other 4 story condo hotels adjacent to it. The property itself was meticulously landscaped and maintained. Our room (we had a ocean view suite) was clean though dated. We had a nice view of the ocean though we could also see unmanicured areas and an access road. Air conditioning worked well. The bathroom was modern and reinforces my opinion that Secrets did not build this property and did some selective upgrades Limited (3) usb ports so bring your charger cords. Housekeeping was excellent though turn down service did not occur on the weekend. I am uncertain as to reason. Minor issue in my opinion By contrast the sister property Dreams appeared to be recently constructed, was architecturally distinctive and was expansive in size. The pool area did appear to be new with scorch free and slip free walking surfaces, lounge chairs, cushioned seating and umbrellas. The pool is visually attractive with one swim up bar and chair drink service from a second walk in bar. The property indicates that lounge saving is not allowed but no one seems to follow that rule. By 9am every lounge chair had a towel but no person on it. The pool is well maintained however there is inadequate seating for all guests. The beach is large, well maintained, and perhaps a 5 minute walk from most rooms. There are a number of lounge chairs, palapas and cabanas on the beach. The cabanas can be rented for $100/day (they are free with some higher end accommodations) but the lounge chairs are free. Umbrellas are present but can not be opened on the beach if wind gusts are present. There is cocktail service on the beach but food service delivery to your beach lounger is not permitted. There are no bathroom facilities on the beach so its a walk back to the pool area Activities schedule was posted on the Secrets app but not available on the in room interface. No obvious watersports activities though perhaps they occurred at the Dreams resort. Daily water aerobics in the pool and the typical daily Spanish class Every day a musician would play an instrument poolside. On two nights vendors selling the typical Mexican mementos were allowed on site. On the whole whatever activities were taking place were not obvious to me. A travel advisor and a car rental agency were on site as was a day spa Most nights a wedding or some party was in the pool area. Food service seemed to embrace the "less is more" concept where less food equates with more profit for the hotel. For example I ordered onion rings at the poolside café. My order consisted of 2 onion rings each about 4 inch wide. Good sized and tasty but a few more would have been enjoyed. The breakfast buffet was ample and varied however I could not find any tortillas. An egg, crepe and smoothie station were available. I thought the breakfast buffet was excellent but empty food trays were not quickly replaced. Either you made more than one trip to get your bacon or you did without. More attention was required by staff and less food hogging by guests are necessary. That said I ate oatmeal and yogurt so I was not effected. Coffee was tasty though coffee pots were not placed on your table so my cup was empty more times than not. I ended up ordering a pot of coffee for room delivery. Evening dining options were varied but hardly memorable. Mexican food options were disappointingly mediocre. Again portions are small though attractively presented. This is not the resort if you are hungry for a 16 ounce ribeye but the small portions do allow you to try a soup, appetizer or dessert in addition to your entrée. The dress code prohibited sit down lunch service in a bathing suit or tank top so your lunch option poolside was to either go and dress to sit at the café or eat from a very limited poolside chaffing dish set up. In the land of tequila I found it odd that there were no top shelf tequilas (or other alcoholic spirits) available. Cuervo, Hornitos and Jimador were stocked as was Don Julio blanco. These tequila brands all include additives ( ie sugar from sources other than agave) but I found no additive free tequila offered nor were there any anejos. The duty free shop at the airport had a much better selection. Likewise burbons consisted of Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. Certainly not "well" brands but far from top shelf Shots were available and mixed drink glasses were properly sized. I hate a cocktail served in a water glass so I appreciated a proper sized glass. That said I never really had a cocktail where I could taste the alcohol I do not know if it was a light pour or just the ice cubes melting I love Palomas but the ones I was served used soda, rather than grapefruit juice as a mixer. Corona and Modelo were not offered though Sol, Tecate and Dos Equis were available I have traveled to Mexico for many years and I am in love with the country and people. The Mexican staff was friendly and always willing to help. When asked for directions an employee was more likely to show you the way rather than give you verbal instructions. Resort management however seems disconnected from goings on at the resort and I encourage you to call the resort prior to arrival for resort requirements. I did not call but did review arrival instructions on the resort website. All in all Secrets Playa Mujeres is an average property and I was disappointed after the good experience I had at Secrets Capri. Its okay but not top shelf. Given the price point I would shop around as there are many other resorts that compete on quality and price

The food was mediocre, very unseasoned and a lot of the buffet foods were room temperature and some of the food served by staff was even cool at times. The drinks were okay, watered down most of the time but the staff were amazing though, they were very friendly and happy to serve! Wait times for the restaurants were decent, we never waited long to be seated although staff stated they were at 50% so that played a part. The pool entertainment was typical resort activities however, the music played throughout the day was seriously lacking. It was mostly instrumental music on the radio and once a day staff would play a trumpet or saxophone. Nightlife was selected, and the shows performed in the theater were extremely hot and uncomfortable. They didn’t have any fans or airflow, so many times we left early. There are no shows offered or nightlife on Sundays so it’s very quiet. The grounds are stunning and very well maintained. The swim-out Junior suite I stayed in was not worth it. It’s not for swimming, it’s smaller than a jacuzzi and it’s truly a place to sit and soak. My suite was on the end of the building and my swim-out view was a central air conditioning unit and a fire hydrant. The grass was grown up and not maintained at all, this was a huge disappointment. The rooms are nothing to be excited over. The tables had quite a few bangs and scratches on them and the walls had some chips and cracks in areas. They need to deep clean and wipe down the walls and base. For a luxury resort and luxury prices, I did expect more cleanliness. Overall, it was a lovely stay but I wouldn’t revisit this site.

We went to this resort as a fun friend vacation and had a great time! The amenities and service were great. The best part of our stay was the entertainment team. Jesús Felix and Juan Carlos made our days at the pool the best! Those two made our days so fun by putting on different activities and events. Pool volleyball, trivia, water aerobics; you name it. They spent hours in the sun with the best attitudes and fun spirits. Such a difference maker for our trip and we appreciated the entertainment team a ton!

This place is amazing!! My husband and I stayed for a week to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, and we could not have asked for anything better. The resort is beautiful, everything is well-maintained, the food is good, and the staff could not have been more helpful! Edher, our poolside waiter, was fast and friendly, and he even arranged a special evening for us at Oceana! The layout of the resort is also great because all of the rooms are near the pool and the beach, but the late-night entertainment is all towards the front, so our room was always peaceful. We enjoyed the nighttime entertainment, and the pool entertainment crew kept us amused during the day. One thing I was relieved about was the somewhat lax dress code. Neither my husband or I like to "dress up," so I was a little worried about it, but I found them to be pretty chill. They will definitely turn you away for wearing a t-shirt or flip flops, but we wore jeans to all the restaurants, and it was fine. My husband usually wore sneakers and a short-sleeve button-up shirt. I usually wore Birkenstock sandals and linen tops. My top recommendations would be to be there on a Thursday night for Asado Night by the pool (incredible grilled meats) and go have fun on the waterslides next door at Dreams in the late afternoon when most of the kiddos have gone inside.

Property was beautiful, ocean and beach fully accessible and experienced it daily. Staff are friendly and service was awesome. Pools are clean and wonderful. Daily activities are fun. Other that great restaurants, nightlife/shows not great. Dreams being available added extra restaurants and atmosphere. Golf card rides are fun and drivers so nice. Great house keeping service and fridge replacement. partial ocean view suite overlooked pool was perfect. And not going preferred felt or saw no difference. Bali beds and seats around pool were filled by 10am. Would highly recommend we stayed 7 days.
