Good location, below average food

835georgeb (Houston, Texas) on May 15, 2024

If you’re diving the reefs, you are at the ideal location. However be warned, even as a guest they charge you $10/day/person just to get picked up on their dock. The food is below Cozumel average. Only 20% of what we ate could be called “good”. Look for a good price and it’s worth it. It’s a cheap budget hotel, pay accordingly.

Unfulfilled Promises: A Blunt Review of Sunscape at Cozumel

Antonio M (Sterling Heights, Michigan) on May 06, 2024

Despite having stayed in numerous hotels for business purposes, my recent experience at this hotel has left much to be desired. Particularly when compared to its larger counterparts such as Dreams and Secrets, the overall value proposition here falls short. Here are some key areas of concern: Restaurant Service: Regrettably, the restaurant service here ranks among the worst I've encountered. Despite extensive travel, I've never experienced such lackadaisical attitudes towards customer satisfaction. Several factors contribute to this dismal experience: There is a notable lack of urgency among the staff. Seating capacity is consistently overextended, resulting in lengthy wait times. Even with a concise menu, no efforts are made to streamline the ordering process and minimize delays. A significant portion of the staff demonstrates rudeness and apathy towards guest satisfaction, which directly contradicts the "unlimited experience" promised. Check-in Experience: Upon arrival, I encountered an unsettling interaction with a staff member. Despite presenting my official driver's license, I was met with abrupt questioning about alternative identification. This insistence on a secondary form of ID, seemingly based on my appearance and language spoken, was not only offensive but also indicative of a need for improved sensitivity and professionalism. However, there were a few positive aspects worth mentioning: The kids club exceeded expectations, with dedicated and respectful team members providing an enjoyable experience for all. Housekeeping staff maintained high standards of cleanliness, ensuring our room was immaculate regardless of our departure time. Resolution: Following our feedback on the subpar restaurant experience, the Restaurant Manager made efforts to rectify the situation by arranging daily reservations. While this improved our dinner experience, other meal times and the bar service continued to disappoint. Despite our reluctance to continually address these issues, the overall meal experience remained inconsistent. In conclusion, I regret to say that I will not be returning to this hotel and cannot recommend it, particularly to those accustomed to the standards set by Dreams and Secrets. The disparity between the high price tag and the quality of service renders this establishment an unsatisfactory choice. I sincerely hope that the management and staff take these criticisms constructively and implement meaningful improvements for the benefit of future guests.

Very nice .. No complaints!!

I've stayed in Cozumel about 10 times in about 15 years. I go for the scuba diving which is always above average to very good. This was the first time I stayed at Sunscape Sabor as I usually stay at Allegro or Occidental which are a little farther South down the beach. I came hear because I got a nice deal. I found the rooms to be clean and comfortable, the AC worked well and there was plenty of hot water. And the resort is pretty quiet in the evening. The room was cleaned daily. The resort is located between Dreams resort and Secrets resort and is not an extremely large property. A short walk on the paved beach walk gets you to the House Dive shop located in the Secrets resort. The dive shop picks you up at the Secrets pier which is a short walk down the beach from Sabor. I found the food to be quite acceptable. I ate mostly at the Market restaurant next door which is right on the beach and is a buffet type. There was always fresh fruit and different vegetables, pastas, and prepared meats and cheezes. There are also 2 other "sit down" restaurants there but I prefer buffay type so I usually ate at the Market restaurant. All the employees seemed very friendly and helpful. There's a nice little open bar right on the beach that will make you anything you want but I dislike mixed drinks and pretty much prefer bear and wine and the choices were acceptable. The pool is not too large but it's fine and seems to be kept clean. I'm not one to use pools a lot but the many children at the resort seemed to be enjoying it. The beach area seems nice and is kept clean and seems to be a very nice beach. (I personally dislike sitting on a beach and generally do not). Overall I enjoyed my stay and the resort it is not dissimilar to Allegro or Occidental. (It's just a bit smaller) Sabor and Allegro seem to be a little more "family" oriented. I sort of like that Sabor is a bit smaller. As I have done in the past I generally come to the resort where I get the best "deal" for staying and diving and I will now be also including Sunkist Sabor in my consideration. If you are lookin to stay at 5 star resort with an array of 5 star sit down restaurants this is not it. But if you want a comfortable and good value resort on a nice beach and great diving near by I would recommend Sabor. And the prices can very a lot depending on the season. Keep that in mind.
