An Older Property without a Nice Beach

stifoe2024 (Tucson, Arizona) on Jun 02, 2024

This is an older hotel that does not have a sandy beach. You cannot swim due to the rocks. The Sargassum was expected but the rocks made it difficult to get in the water. The rocks are boulder size. The staff is friendly and excellent, but the hotel is not worth the price. We will not be returning.

The reality of the preferred Ocean view junior suite room

Passport294774 on Jun 01, 2024

We recently stayed at this resort booking a preferred junior suite with ocean view. The website shows the room pics with a beautiful ocean view. The reality was a big palm blocking any kind of view of the ocean and a pool with loud music. We refused the room but they told us that was the only room available. We complained when we checked out and again they said that that view was considered “ocean view”. Somebody is not telling the true, either the website shows an inaccurate picture of the view you will get it or the hotel staff gave us the wrong room. Very disappointing.

NIGHTMARE, NOT A DREAM!

Steve G (Davis, Illinois) on Jun 01, 2024

Dreams??? This place should be called Nightmare Tulum. This place is an absolute dump! I was there a few years ago with family and it was wonderful so I had no qualms about my grandson going there for a surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend. What a HUGE mistake that was!! My membership is "Diamond" which cost a ton of money. I have never been treated so rudely and ignored so often as trying to deal with this dump. My grandson started contacting them to set up a romantic dinner on the beach for the secret proposal months ahead of time. They never responded to emails or helped when he was able to get through with a phone call. The best they did was to send him a link to the website that he had been looking at for months. When they arrived, they had to wait over 2 hours for their room and when they finally got it, it was not the junior suite that they were suppose to get and was advertised (bait and switch?). The bathroom flooded any time they used it, the faucet was broken, shower had mold, the cleaning staff continually left garbage in the room, dirty towels were delivered as clean and the bathroom sink vanity was rotted out because of the shower flooding and the broken faucet. My grandson complained on a daily basis but no one at the resort cared and ignored his plight. Neither the preferred club concierge, hotel concierge or the front desk staff did anything. My grandson is on the sale contract as a co-owner but his status meant nothing at this resort. One night there was an outdoor buffet for dinner. The catch to that was, that in order to dine, you had to purchase a bottle of wine! That's not right at all. I'm guessing that the hotel manager is trying to increase the hotel revenue by extorting the guest (my opinion). There were a few dinners that their food had to be sent back due to improper cooking and shrimp not being cleaned or deveined. Now to top this bad experience off, their luggage had been gone through by one of the staff! The last day the concierge, who had listened to my grandson's complaints a few times, finally relented and gave them a different room after telling him that he should have said something sooner. WHAT? The new room, given to them the night before they departed, was the room that they should have been given when they checked in. During all of this fiasco, I got involved emailing and calling UVC and the resort. No surprise here, I got ignored too. I spend a large sum of money to purchase the Diamond Membership and to be disrespected and treated like this and to have my family member treated like this is beyond appalling! My opinion is that the cleaning , cooking and maintenance staffs go through retraining to get them up to quality standards (maybe the health department should inspect the kitchen too). Additionally, the resort manager, his entire staff, the front desk staff and the preferred club staff should all be fired.

Amazing Staff, good resort

djdevall (Troy, Illinois) on Jun 01, 2024

The staff was amazing! Everyone was super friendly. Eric at Portofino was incredible! At the main pool, Eduardo and Antonio made sure we never had an empty glass! The food was good, lots of choices. The coffee at CoCo Cafe is incredible! We had two rooms, both with their individual set of issues. Most were resolved, but it took multiple calls and requests at the Preferred Club. We had a toddler with us, and activities are limited. There is a play area at the beach, but that's it. Most Dreams have water areas for littles, but this one does not. We made the best of it. Overall, nice resort.
