Front, back, window or aisle. Optional seat selection is available. Here are some commonly asked questions about seating.

1. Why should I select my seat before my flight's departure date?

Selecting your seat ahead of time gives you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you'll get the seats you want on the aircraft and you won't be separated from your family, friends or colleagues – a concern that may arise if you opt to select seats during the check-in process. Regardless of what city, province or country you fly to, choosing to select a seat during your booking process, or soon after, will decrease last-minute seating let-downs. The sooner you secure your seat choice the better your seating options will be on board.

2. Are there any flights where I won't be able to select a seat?

Seat selection is available for WestJet flights booked two or more hours before scheduled departure. If your itinerary includes any flights operated by one of our airline partners you will not be able to select a seat for the partner operated portion of your travel. For charter flights, seat selection is available at airports only, as we must verify your travel documents and collect necessary information upon check-in.

3. How can I select my seat?

If your flight qualifies for seat selection, and depending on which fare type you've selected, you can select your seat when you book at westjet.com or you can contact us to select your seat. You may also return to your reservation and select a seat any time up until 24 hours before your flight's scheduled time of departure – at the 24 hour mark you will be able to check-in and add seat selection at no charge on westjet.com.

4. How does seat selection work?

Guests booking Econo and Flex fare types may select a seat for a fee. Seat fees are charged for each flight segment and each direction of travel. Segments are identified by flight numbers; each flight number represents one flight segment. Seat fees vary between regular seats, exit-row seats and seats in Plus. Exit-row seats offer additional legroom — you must be over the age of 16 and able-bodied to sit in the emergency exit row for safety reasons. Due to safety reasons, guests may not select an emergency exit row seat if they require a seatbelt extender.

Seats in Plus include extra legroom, advance boarding, first access to overhead bins, and food and beverages from our on-board menu (including beer, wine and spirits). WestJet reserves the right to limit alcohol service. Guests booking Plus fares have complimentary access to seats in Plus.

All guests can select a regular seat (regardless of fare type), free of charge, 24 hours to 60 minutes before scheduled departure when using web, mobile or kiosk check-in. If you call us to select your seat, fee(s) will apply. Sixty minutes before departure, seat selection is not available. Seat fees are refundable up until 24 hours before flight departure, with the exception of full itinerary cancellations, where fees will be refunded up until two hours before flight departure.

5. How do I know how many flight segments I have?

Segments are identified by a change in the flight number. Each flight number represents one flight segment.

6. At least one segment of my flight is serviced by WestJet Encore. Are there any differences from WestJet flights?

WestJet Encore's aircraft have seats for 78 guests, with two seats available on either side of the aisle. Seats have an average seat pitch (legroom) of 30 inches. You may select your seat in advance for a fee, with the exception of rows one to four, at the time of booking or free of charge 24 hours to 60 minutes before scheduled departure using web, mobile, or kiosk check-in.

Seats in Plus on flights operated by WestJet Encore do not have extra legroom.

7. Are seats available with extra legroom?

Guests seated in Plus (first three rows of our 737 aircraft) will enjoy extra legroom, advance boarding, early access to overhead bins, and receive complimentary food and beverages from our on-board menu. Selections vary based on flight length, time of day and availability. WestJet reserves the right to limit alcohol service. Guests booking a Plus fare have access to these seats for free. During the check-in window, any remaining seats will be made available for guests travelling on Econo and Flex fare types for a fee, based on flight distance.

8. I've already selected my seat. Am I able to change my seat before my flight?

If you selected your seat online and wish to change it, you can do so by logging into your profile and visiting Manage bookings.

9. I didn't purchase my seat when I made my original reservation on westjet.com. Can I purchase it now?

If you made your reservation with a WestJet profile on westjet.com and did not select a seat(s), you can still select a seat by going to "Manage bookings" and entering your reservation code and last name. You can also call us at 1-800-538-5696 and we'll be happy to add a seat selection to your reservation.

10. I'm changing my flight(s). Do I need to select seating again?

If you make changes to any portion of your itinerary that originally included seat selection, the changed segment will automatically include the option for you to select new seating. For any segment you are not changing, you will not need to select seating again, as your original seating will be maintained.

11. Can I still select my seat if I don't want to pay the fee?

Yes, but only 24 hours to 60 minutes before your flight's scheduled departure, and only through our web check-in and mobile check-in (some restrictions apply). Visit Check-in and airport arrivals for more information. Web and mobile check-in is available on all domestic and U.S. flights and may also be available for some of our international destinations. If you check in at the airport, seats will be assigned, at which point, you can make your seating request. The earlier you check in, the better the chance you'll get the seat you want.

12. I have a special requirement for my flight – will I be seated in a designated area?

Depending on your special requirement, fare type and the seats available, we will attempt to seat you in the best location possible. Our seating suggestions are listed below.

13. I am travelling with a group – can we be seated together?

Reserving your seat at the time of booking is the best way to ensure that your group stays together. All guests have the option of reserving seats ahead of time, but the fee may vary depending on the Fare type you have booked and when your flight is scheduled to depart. If you are travelling in a group of 10 or more, contact our group sales team before booking.

Also, please be aware that seats split on either side of the aisle are offset on our 737-700 aircraft. This means that seats C and D are not directly beside each other, even when in the same numbered row.
