Front, back, window or aisle. Optional seat selection is available. Here are some commonly asked questions about seating.

1. Are there any flights where I won't be able to select a seat?

Seat selection is available for WestJet flights booked two or more hours before scheduled departure. If your itinerary includes any flights operated by one of our airline partners you will not be able to select a seat for the partner operated portion of your travel. For charter flights, seat selection is available at airports only, as we must verify your travel documents and collect necessary information upon check-in.

2. How can I select my seat?

If your flight qualifies for seat selection, and depending on which fare type you've selected, you can select your seat when you book at westjet.com or you can contact us to select your seat. You may also return to your reservation and select a seat any time up until 24 hours prior to your flight's scheduled time of departure – at the 24 hour mark you will be able to check-in and add seat selection at no charge on westjet.com.

3. How does seat selection work?

Guests that reserve Econo and Flex fare types may select a seat for a fee. Seat fees are charged for each flight segment and each direction of travel. Segments are identified by flight numbers; each flight number represents one flight segment. Seat fees also vary between regular and Plus fare seats. Plus fare seats are located in the first three rows and the emergency exit-row seats and provide guests with additional legroom and pre-boarding. You must be over the age of 16 and able-bodied to sit in the emergency exit row for safety reasons. Infants are not permitted in emergency exit-row seats.

Plus fare guests can select a seat free of charge prior to check-in. All guests can select a seat (regardless of fare type), free of charge, 24 hours to 60 minutes before scheduled departure when using web, mobile or kiosk check-in. If you call our Sales Super Centre to select your seat, fee(s) will apply. Sixty minutes prior to departure, seat selection is not available. If you cancel your reservation, all seat fees on any unused flight segments are refundable.

4. How do I know how many flight segments I have?

Segments are identified by a change in the flight number. Each flight number represents one flight segment.

5. At least one segment of my flight is serviced by WestJet Encore. Are there any differences from WestJet flights?

WestJet Encore's aircraft have seats for 78 guests, with two seats available on either side of the aisle. Seats have an average seat pitch (legroom) of 30 inches. You may select your seat in advance for a fee, with the exception of rows one to four, at the time of booking or free of charge 24 hours to 60 minutes before scheduled departure using web, mobile, or kiosk check-in.

6. Are seats available near the front of the aircraft?

Seats are available for selection in the first three rows (as in the emergency exit row) to guests in the Flex and Plus fare types. There is a fee for guests with a Flex fare type; guests with a Plus fare type receive complimentary seat selection in available seats. The number of seats available for selection depends on how many seats have already been selected by other guests and the type of fare you have reserved.

7. I've already selected my seat. Am I able to change my seat before my flight?

If you selected your seat online and wish to change it, you can do so by logging into your profile and visiting Manage bookings.

8. I didn't purchase my seat when I made my original reservation on westjet.com. Can I purchase it now?

If you made your reservation with a WestJet profile on westjet.com and did not select a seat(s), you can still select a seat by going to "Manage bookings" and entering your reservation code and last name. You can also call us at 1-800-538-5696 and we'll be happy to add a seat selection to your reservation.

9. I'm changing my flight(s). Do I need to select seating again?

If you make changes to any portion of your itinerary that originally included seat selection, the changed segment will automatically include the option for you to select new seating. For any segment you are not changing, you will not need to select seating again, as your original seating will be maintained.

10. Can I still select my seat if I don't want to pay the fee?

Yes, but only 24 hours to 60 minutes prior to your flight's scheduled departure, and only through our web check-in and mobile check-in (some restrictions apply). Visit Check-in and airport arrivals for more information. Web and mobile check-in is available on all domestic and U.S. flights and may also be available for some of our international destinations. If you check in at the airport, seats will be assigned, at which point, you can make your seating request. The earlier you check in, the better the chance you'll get the seat you want. Plus fare seats (extra legroom in the first three rows and exit row) are not available for complimentary selection unless the guest has booked a Plus fare.

11. I have a special requirement for my flight – will I be seated in a designated area?

Depending on your special requirement, fare type and the seats available, we will attempt to seat you in the best location possible. Our seating suggestions are listed below.
