WestJet has proactively cancelled a number of flights due to wildfires impacting Maui, Hawaii.

Status of operations – as of Wednesday, August 16 at 2:00 p.m. MT

In response to the Maui wildfires, a travel advisory has been posted on WestJet.com and flexible change/cancel guidelines have been announced for all guests travelling to Kahului, Maui between August 9 and September 16, 2023.

Status of operations – as of Saturday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. MT

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our guests and crews, we have proactively cancelled two more flights at this time to Kahului from Vancouver today, August 12, 2023, and tomorrow, August 13, 2023.

Starting Monday, August 14, WestJet will return to regular service to Kahului.

Impacted flights:

  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 12, 2023
  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 13, 2023

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will make operational changes in the name of safety as necessary. In response to the Maui wildfires, a travel advisory continues to be updated on WestJet.com.

In alignment with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, WestJet is encouraging guests who have travel plans to West Maui in the coming weeks to consider rescheduling their travel plans for a later time.  

For guests with imminent travel plans to the island, WestJet advises they:

  • Check the travel advisories page for relevant updates
  • Contact their hotel or accommodation provider to confirm your reservation
  • Check with their car rental or transportation provider to ensure transportation is available
  • Check the status of their flight
  • Continue to pay close attention to the direction of Hawaii officials, and encourage you to do the same.

 

Status of operations – as of Friday, August 11 at 4:00 p.m. MT

In response to the Maui wildfires, a travel advisory has been posted on WestJet.com and flexible change/cancel guidelines have been announced for all guests travelling to Kahului, Maui between August 9 and 31, 2023.

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our guests and crews, we have proactively cancelled three flights at this time to Kahului from Vancouver today, August 10, 2023 and tomorrow, August 11, 2023. with a recovery flight scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2023. We are working to notify all impacted guests and encourage them to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.

  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 10, 2023
  • WS4285 scheduled to operate August 11, 2023
  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 11, 2023
  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 12, 2023
  • WS1852 scheduled to operate August 13, 2023

To assist those guests evacuating the island, today and tomorrow, WestJet will be operating service between Vancouver and Maui with a technical stop performed in Honolulu for a required crew change. Once the crew change is completed guests will be flown back to Vancouver via Honolulu, as follows:

  • WS1853 scheduled to operate August 10, 2023
  • WS1853 scheduled to operate August 11, 2023
  • WS1853 scheduled to operate August 12, 2023
  • WS1853 scheduled to operate Agust 13, 2023

Additionally, an extra recovery flight has been scheduled for August 11, 2023 departing from Kahlului and travelling to Vancouver:

  • WS4286
