Not a good holiday so far

K3382LKdano (Salford, United Kingdom) on May 16, 2024

Currently here at Grand Palladium in the Collonial area of the resort. Had high expectations and to be honest, quite disappointed so far. Spent one week here so far with another week before we leave. So hopefully will get better. Positives: Beautiful place Negatives: Poor service. Bar staff don’t appear to be bothered, don’t smile don’t make you feel welcome. Only one place in the whole resort which is sports bar where the staff are amazing! I don’t want to spend my holiday in one dark bar though. Can’t get water at bars? - very strange when it’s 32 degree heat. Went to 3 bars one night to get a bottle of water and was very very dehydrated. Spirits all come very watered down with ice and flat post mix. I love a nice vodka and coke and just couldn’t drink it here it tasted odd. At breakfast. Many days of being here you have to get up and ask for water. Can’t help yourself. Got coffee from a machine and nowhere to get milk. Some days not all typical English items are available for breakfast. Some days there may be bacon other days not. Some days sausage, some days hash browns. Mustard or mayo with breakfast. 4 days out of 7 no ketchup or brown sauce. This was in la hacienda. Which also serves the buffet menu for lunch and dinner. At breakfast seen some items served in the evening and re-served at breakfast. Beach bar - I asked for a couple of drinks, I Paused to think of more to order and the bar tender in the back said ‘in our country we say please!’ - I hadn’t finished ordering and I am a very polite person! I’d never not say please and thank you. This added to the ignorance of staff. 20 Pesos was stole from my room which was beside the TV. I am not even going to complain over the fact it’s a very small amount in British sterling just felt it was very rude. All the food in a la carts restaurants are very poor and very disappointed with it considering I spent £2k for a holiday. I went to El Dorado and ordered a T bone steak - it was grey. Couldn’t eat it and left without eating. By day 6 I was so fed up with the food I paid extra (1200 pesos) to gain entry to a restaurant called Bravo. When I got the menu I found it to be 950 pesos to order the 1 steak on the menu ( on the app there were more steaks advertised) I felt I needed a good meal and paid all this money and paid. The food was outstanding In Bravo (at the extra cost). Service again poor. At one point 9 glasses on my table before clearing. I asked for a cocktail menu and the waiter said ‘we don’t have them what do you want?’ - is this a restaurant I am paying extra for?!!!’ I ordered 2 Proseccos and 20 mins later still didn’t arrive. I went to the bar myself and ordered some and took them to my table. 15 mins later the ones I ordered with my waiter arrived. At Bravo it was advertised and meal and show at the extra show. The show was staff dancing around a bar. But you know what? The dancers were so lovely! At check In to the resort we were offered to take a room in the TRS section with better facilities for an extra $800 (could not be exact but an excessive charge) so I declined. Rooms in colonial very outdated with an odour - wasn’t really bothered as I won’t be staying in the room very long. Air conditioning is amazing though!!! You have to book for a la crate restaurants, found it difficult to book for some even though we are a party of 2. If you can’t book you have to go to the buffet restaurant which is not great . Got badly sunburned. Had to travel miles to a pharmacy and paid 80 pesos on a bus to get there and out of pain. There is a Dr on site but was not paying yet again to see a Dr for sunburn. Overall been here 6 days out of 14. Not a good week and wouldn’t come back.

Had fun with a few bumps

jimsI612MX on May 15, 2024

Just got back from the Palladium Colonial & had a great time. Lots of wildlife, watch out for the monkey we had a tug a war with my beach bag.. I think he won. Beach is beautiful food was good. One of the people in our group of 6 cut themselves on the lounger really bad. Monse in Concierge was great got Medics to bandage it up more than once during our stay. Emmanuel the Medic did a great job, very kind & compassionate. Nestor the bartender at beach bar was great, knew what we wanted & always had it ready for us. Bands at the pool were really good also. Entertainment at night was good & you don't have to pay extra like some of the other resorts we have been to. Never had any problems with our room not being cleaned or stocked. The only problem was Amstar. The rep was never there so we had no idea when our pick up time was. Finally nailed him down & opted for the private transfer back to airport seeing as our flight didn't leave until 6 at night. Well that was disaster! Driver came early & it was not private & he only had 4 out of the 6 of us on his list. At first refused to take us even tho we had a confirmation email. When he did agree to take us he was not nice about it all when it wasn't even our error. I feel like Amstar owes us our money back for paying extra for a non stop private transfer that never occurred. We are planning on returning in Nov with my son & daughter in law hopefully Amstar will do better this time!

Grand Hotel with Great Facilities

421victoriar (Looe, United Kingdom) on May 14, 2024

Just returned and loved our stay. The App to book meals, check entertainment, etc was really great. The staff were friendly, and the facilities were very clean. Lots to do and see, the food and drink choices are fantastic. Close to Akumal Turtle beach and Tulum ruins. Highly recommended.

El Darado - great service from Miguel

joedyer99 on May 13, 2024

Miguel from El Darado provided great service - went above and beyond for our requests and knew the menu very well. Great ambassador for the restaurant and resort. He also knew the wine menu well and was able to cater for our own preferences and provide advice.

Stun

Went to the steakhouse (el dorado) was and the service was lovely. Miguel the waiter was super accommodating to my fussy eating and such quick service. The food was lovely and hot and the salad bar was good for all the family. I would 100% recommend this restaurant.
