The Hidden Gem of Puerto Morelos!

PatriceBlanca (New York City, New York) on May 17, 2024

This is really a hidden gem. We were skeptical when arriving in a taxi from the airport, but was pleasantly surprised to find the most beautiful property at the end of the street was The Fives Oceanfront. Their front desk was ready to take our luggage as soon as we arrived, and we were offered welcome glasses of Prosecco! The check in was smooth and easy but we were so distracted by how beautiful and clean the hotel was! The layout and design of the place was amazing! The decor was modern and artistic and really gave a feeling of 5 star property. I can not begin to tell you how beautiful and clean our room was, looks exactly as the pics on the hotel listing! The staff was helpful, polite and always smiling. The managers were super attentive, and would always ask us if we were enjoy our stay and if we needed anything A special thank you to William who taught yoga and conducted a great bike tour of Puerto Morelos. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Everything was wonderful and exceeded my expectations, I’ve recommended this place to all my family and friends. Thank you so much for the best birthday experience ever!

Beautiful location, mediocre food, some maintenance problems.

Explorer15997364252 (Ewing, New Jersey) on May 12, 2024

The pools, beach, and room were nice overall. The infinity pools were warm and clean. The view from the rooftop pool was spectacular! Morning sunrises over the ocean and evening sunsets over the jungle. The beach was raked clean of the aggressive seaweed daily. Our junior suite was on the jungle side of the hotel with lovely partial views of the ocean and gorgeous sunrises. The balcony felt very private and the room was virtually sound proof. So those were the strengths. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. It was very basic food, so extra annoying that it was pricey and flavorless. It was as if there wasn’t a single grain of salt or a spice in the entire building to flavor the food. I was expecting vibrant Mexican flavors with fresh fruit and vegetables. Nope. Everything was bland and off putting. And one of the three restaurants was closed entirely because the chef apparently walked off the job. So the options felt very limited. Our room, as nice as it was, had a real problem maintaining an even temperature and we experienced huge fluctuations without moving the dial. The closets and drawers wreaked of mildew. And eventually, so did our clothes. We walked in one time and the windows were covered in condensation and puddling on the floor. Another evening our entire bed was damp and the living area furniture suddenly smelled awful. The room across from us had something growing on the exterior utility closet. Someone cut it off around day four. The refrigerator and freezer had drawers and shelves that were broken. We found out three days into our stay that we had to request for our room to be cleaned and refreshed with coffee and water. This would have been good to know ahead of time. We were out and about most of the days and by the time we got back (assuming the room would be cleaned while we were out), the cleaning staff had left for the day. It was truly a mixed bag, but I don’t think we’ll return.

Second trip

Murray M (Kimberley, Canada) on May 05, 2024

Second visit. We arrived home a week ago after spending 10 all inclusive days at this boutique resort. The rooms are spacious and the king bed is very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets from our balcony. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and work hard to make their guest feel special. Dinner at Al Mare was lovely although large groups made it noisy at times. We enjoyed eating on the balcony as more tables for two and warm ocean breeze. Silverio made our evenings extra special from greeting us to serving us and always with a huge smile. Dianna was assisting him and she knew exactly what we needed. Lovely young lady. Special thanks to Chef Adam who made a special sushi boat for us which was delicious. Thanks again to Silverio for arranging that dinner for us. We really appreciate our night. On the super clean beach, the busy day is Sunday as they have a band and seafood BBQ it’s a big deal. We only experienced one out of two Sundays that we could not get a lounge chair, so instead went up to the beautiful rooftop infinity pool with ocean beach view. I can’t say enough about our service from Erick and Balderson, they worked so hard but made you feel special and welcomed. Angel and all the special people made us feel like we were old friends. I agree Pesos for tipping. The only disappointment was they had 3 wedding in four days and the roof top pool was closed at 3 for special events. (Weddings were on the beach) no issue.also I wish the yoga class started at 8 not 7:30. Last year I had a fabulous massage at their beautiful spa, but the cost increased from $100 to $165 US which makes difference for Canadians. We would still go back.

10/10 Paradise - excellent food and friendly staff!

Maps91624 on Apr 25, 2024

Excellent resort. The food makes this resort really special…top notch food and service! I also loved our room. It was on the backside corner so we had ocean/jungle/town view. The best sunsets!! The resort is very quiet. We walked to town and back every night after dinner. For excursions, we walked to town and hopped on a boat for 2 hours of snorkeling ($25/each) and we also did a 4 hour cenote/zip line/ atv tour which was also a very good price. We stayed 3 nights. Unfortunately, we did not get into our room on checkin day until about 3pm. We did find it a bit odd that the same person checking us in and telling us when our room would be available was also trying to convince us to go to a loyalty presentation (we were NOT interested). We did not have any “extra” charges added to our bill (aside from $8 in taxes). We used the mini bar, and there wasn’t a “tip” charge as we cash tipped during our stay. Next time we will bring pesos for tips/shopping/excursions as the staff prefers that and I think we would’ve got better value. I would not bring kids here, no facilities for kids. Perfect for couples or groups of friends. On checkout day, we were able to use the facilities and eat/drink until 5pm (checked out of room at noon) without any extra charge. Overall 10/10. We have stayed at 3 other resorts in the area.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel In The Best Location

jessmcna on Apr 14, 2024

We just got back after spending 7 days at The Fives Oceanfront myself, my husband and our three kids ages 10 and a 6 year old. The thing that really makes this hotel so special are the staff, George, Claudia, Erik, Elmir, Moises, Baldo, Maday, Ana, Luisa, Yael, and Hiberto all made our stay wonderful. Bring pesos for tipping, even if you do all inclusive. Just like visiting any other country that is the currency they use in Mexico. It costs a lot for the workers to have to exchange US dollars to pesos and the rate is terrible right now. We always tip the standard 20% just like in the US. We leave $5 a day for the cleaning crew because every day it’s someone different. The staff works very hard and greatly appreciates tips in cash. We had a two bedroom with an ocean view and the rooms are beautiful, modern, and clean. The kitchen is not very usable, there are no utensils but there is a fridge that is perfect if you go to the grocery store for waters and drinks. The beds are on the firmer side and never got cold enough. We realized three days into the trip one of the sliding doors onto the balcony was stuck open and letting all the hot air in. They came and immediately fixed the issue. The location is amazing. A short 14 minute walk into town. We felt very safe and walked in for dinner and walked back at night. We did the included breakfast but nothing else because we wanted to explore the local restaurants. Taninos had one of the best meals we have ever had, the roof top at Sirena was fun, Mi Puebla Hokum had incredible tacos and you feel like you are in a tree house, Unico Beach Club has wonderful ceviche you eat right on the beach, and La Choza del Puerto had excellent burritos, tacos and local Mexican dishes. The kids loved going for ice cream to Pana y cioccolato every night. We went to Ados the first night but it’s double the price and we liked Pana better. We had breakfast at Ro Marley and the roof top also offers breakfast. The roof top is where the adults only pool is, we found for the kids Ro Marley was better so we ate there everyday. The food is excellent but the menu is very limited and they never change it up. Cocktails are also really good. Some days we also did lunch and again very good but the same thing every day. We never went to Al Mare because we went out every night for dinner but everyone said it was very good. On Friday night they had a Mayan show and fire dancers on the roof top, don’t miss catching that show. On the weekend there is also a catch of the day lunch, it looked and smelled incredible, but you are looking at $200+ for a grilled lobster, we passed on it this time but everyone said it was very delicious. We loved the pool and the beach and the kids went back and forth. The biggest downside to this hotel is they allow outsiders to purchase day passes. They don’t have enough chairs on the beach or pool. You have to be down there by 7am to put a towel down to get a seat. The staff always helped us find seating though but it was annoying to have to get down there early to do that. Luckily it was only busy on the weekend by Monday and for the rest of the week we had no issues. We did a snorkeling trip through the hotel. It was great because the boat comes for you right at the hotel beach. It’s the second largest reef in the world and worth seeing. The day we went out was cloudy but we did get to see some beautiful marine life. They also had a wedding and closed part of the beach early one day which made for even less available seating. The wedding also was extremely loud and guests who stayed in the room above us made noise till 4:30am. The rooms are not well sound proofed, you can hear every time someone moves a stool or chair. While we loved the hotel we got roped into doing one of their presentations that was absolutely awful. It was supposed to be one hour in exchange for a free lunch. We were interested because we are looking to get rid of a timeshare we currently have and they said they could get us out of it and had partnerships with the Hilton and many other resorts. It ended up being 3 hours and was a lot like buying a car and dealing with the worst sales people we have ever encountered. They sell it as a membership but it’s a timeshare just like all the others. $29,000 down for a 25 year commitment and perks and discounts at other properties, when we said no thanks they moved it down to 10 years for $17,000, then try it for a year. They started to even draft up a contract and we told them there was no way we would ever make a decision like this on the spot and after wasting three hours we got up and left. They use the same portal we use with the timeshare we currently have that we want to get rid of. We spoke to a few people who had done the “membership” and everyone told us it’s not worth it, they lie to you, and is exactly like all the other terrible time shares. Do not waste your time a free lunch for three hours of wasted time is not worth it. I am amazed that this is still a practice and any hotel allows this. Overall we loved our stay - the presentation was really the only negative.
