Flexible Change/Cancel Policies

We have relaxed our change and cancellation policies to make it easier to manage travel impacted by COVID-19 or destination-specific travel advisories. Please read the following to see which policy applies to you.

Flexible Change/Cancel policies for travel affected by COVID-19

You can book a new flight with confidence. If COVID-19 affects your travel plan you can adjust with the following flexible change/cancel policy:

  • All flights booked between March 3, 2020 and May 31, 2022 will be allowed a $0 one-time fee waiver for changes or cancellations
  • Change or cancellation must be requested more than 24 hours from departure
  •  If you cancel your flight, the funds will be returned as a Travel Bank credit; any portion paid with WestJet dollars will be returned to your account and the original expiration date (if applicable) will apply.
  • If you change your flight, the difference in fare applies. If the new fare is less, the difference will be returned as a Travel Bank credit
  • For changes or cancellations within 24 hours of travel, standard change and cancel fee rules apply. If you booked through a Travel Agent (online or directly), Corporate Travel arranger, or another airline, please contact them directly.

Flexible Change/Cancel policies for travel affected by a travel advisory

Sometimes a travel advisory in a destination will interrupt your travel plans. Guest-impacting events like extreme weather, airport closures, and disease outbreaks unrelated to COVID-19 can happen. While the travel advisory is in effect, we apply our flexible change/cancel guidelines until it is lifted, and normal operations resume.

If there’s a current travel advisory for your destination on your trip dates, you have options. WestJet will waive the applicable change or cancellation fee, and you have the option to:

  • Change your travel dates to and/or from the same destination. If there’s a difference in fares, you won’t be charged. Blackout dates may apply.
  • Change your destination with or without changing your travel dates. If you’re going to a close airport like Vancouver (YVR) instead of Abbotsford (YXX), you won’t be charged for any fare difference.
  • If you choose to go to an airport that isn’t geographically close, you’ll pay the fare difference.
  • If the new fare is less, the refund guidelines for fare types apply.
  • Cancel your trip. You’ll get a refund according to the guidelines for the original fare bundle.
