Flight delay and cancellation claims

Situations surrounding flight disruptions can be complex and have multiple causes. Carriers are required to inform you of the reason for a flight disruption. Please be aware that the reasons provided for a flight disruption may change as the situation evolves, new issues arise, or new information is received.

If your flight was affected by the labour disruption

  1. Reimbursement for disruption-related expenses while away from home

    If your flight was disrupted due to the recent WestJet labour disruption, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable and necessary expenses you incurred while you were away from home, including: 

    • Accommodation, up to 250 CAD per night, per reservation including taxes and fees 
    • Meals 
    • Ground transportation between your accommodation and the airport 

    Whenever possible, WestJet will provide a hotel voucher. If a voucher was not provided, or if your disruption extended beyond one night, you may submit accommodation expenses for reimbursement, up to 250 CAD per night per reservation.  

    Please submit itemized receipts for eligible expenses as part of your request for reimbursement. Each claim will be reviewed individually and processed in the order it is received.

  2. Compensation for cancelled or disrupted flights

    Under the Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR), a labour disruption within an airline, or within an essential service provider such as an airport or an air navigation service provider, is considered a situation outside an airline’s control.  No compensation for inconvenience is due when a flight disruption is outside an airline’s control.

If your flight was not affected by the labour disruption

You may be entitled to compensation in accordance to the Air Passengers Protection Regulations (APPR), if the conditions of eligibility apply:

  • The disruption was within WestJet’s control and not related to safety
  • You were on a WestJet operated flight flying from, to or within Canada - If your delayed or cancelled flight was not with WestJet, the airline who operated your flight will be best equipped to deal with your claim
  • You were informed 14 days or less before the departure time shown on your original ticket that: 
    • Your flight was cancelled 
    • The arrival at your destination would be delayed
  • The arrival delay at your final destination is three hours or more from your scheduled time of arrival

  • Six-letter WestJet reservation code
  • First and Last Name match the itinerary or boarding pass
  • Date of Birth

Once your claim has been submitted, it cannot be retrieved at a later date. In the event you need a copy for your records, we encourage you to take a screenshot or a photo on your mobile device before clicking submit.

After completing the form below, you can expect a response within 30 days. Payment for approved claims will be sent to the email address provided, with options for how you can receive funds electronically.
