Overprized. Inauthentic. Crowded.

The resort is exactly what to expect what Disney’s version of a Polynesian-themed hotel would be. Problem is, it’s located on Maui near some of the best hotels and beaches that are the real thing. This inauthentic experience would have been better suited for its vast Orlando-based hotels, but not here on the actual islands. It comes with the overpriced meals, gift shops and photo experiences. The character breakfast is a mandatory $50 prix-fix per adult and $29 for kids for three courses. The food is fine but doesn’t justify the high price for basically an omelet. I guess the appeal is that Goofy, Mickey and Minney walk around and pose for pictures with the kids. Same for dinner - mandatory $75 for a 3-course dinner. The water slides are ok but the wait is long. It’s nearly impossible to snag 2-3 beach chairs around the overcrowded pool or artificial lagoon (again, we are on the island with some of the best beaches in the world literally steps away. Why would you need an artificial lagoon?). The whole resort is crawling with families with Disney-aged children, there is no healthy mix of different types of travelers like in other hotels. Staff is friendly, rooms are nice. Just didn’t feel like I needed to be in the fake version of Maui when the real one was just outside the gates…

Great property, very nice family friendly suites, food and service were excellent. Definitely better for younger kids because of all the Disney branding. The character brunch was awesome. Highlight of the trip was paddle boarding in the lagoon. Water is calm enough to take kids out on the paddle board.
