Went to Las Vegas to see The Wizard of Oz at the Sphere. We stayed at the Flamingo. Things have really changed. There is no 24hr coffee shop, restaurants are all franchised brands or just a food court. The staff are all doing their jobs well but don't have the welcoming attitude that Vegas was known for. The shops where you might pick up some basics like water or shampoo all use dynamic pricing, no prices on the products. You don't know what something will cost until you go to pay. The rooms were clean and seemed pretty updated. The free Wifi didn't work. One of my friends that I was traveling with did call in to get it fixed and was on the phone for ½ hour and had to have the settings entered manually. Like most hotels in Vegas there is a resort fee.
A few unfortunate things.

I've been going to the Flamingo for over 15 years and have enjoyed pretty much every visit. This trip was definitely disappointing. First the A/C ran nonstop, you had to turn it off at night so you could sleep. Other than that the room was fine. Made the mistake and didn't notice that it had a bathtub. The valve to turn shower head on was very crusty and had to pull up the lever. Once you get it pulled up the shower head was super strong. That was crazy. But since the faucet valve was so bad I was able to adjust it to reduce the water pressure at the shower head. The room was clean and it was probably waiting for a bathroom upgrade. The biggest and the worst part of the whole stay beside the$ 6.50 a bottle of Coke zero and 7.00 for water, was the smoke alarm going off. First night was around 9:30 and lasted for about 20 plus minutes. The system is so loud in the room . Second time was at 3:30 in the morning and again around 20 minutes before it was finally was turned off but then started up again and stopped. I get it but this seemed to me to be malfunctioning. So it made my trip home a very long day. It's nice to see that there are spending money on the place, lot of construction work going on and nice to see the carpet upgrade in the casino. I come down a couple of times a year and always stay at the Flamingo and even though this trip wasn't as expected I will still be staying there. It's actually one of the last surviving hotels besides Cesar's and still has a lot of the old school charm. .
