Worst food ever- customer service poor

The buffet was the worst food I’ve ever had. Been to 3 all inclusive and this was BY FAR the worst. Mind you, I’m not picky. I’ll eat Golden Coral no problem, but this was BAD. The late night pizza and tacos were edible so that was okay, and I’d assume that the A La Carte restaurants would be decent for dinner however, we were lied to at check in about our ability to eat at them. They told us that we were only allowed 1 restaurant total during our stay! Nowhere in the fine print did we read anything about this, so we were pissed. However the last day we complained one last time about it and the worker told us we were lied to. Unfortunately it was too late to change at that point so instead we were stuck eating the worst buffet ever for every meal. Secondly, the customer service was really bad. Nobody “waits” on you at all. You have to go out of your way for drinks or questions on anything. We’ve been to Cancun twice and service was great. People would constantly offer you drinks by the pool or on the beach. They didn’t have any drink service at all. That’s fine and all, I’m not too lazy to go get my own drinks, however, the bartenders weren’t very kind. No friendly back and forth where you leave feeling like the bartenders became your friends. It’s simply transactional and usually with a bad attitude. We talked to some other vacationers about this and some told us they think it’s cultural about Dominicans, but they felt profiled and that they felt like they were racist to Americans. We could feel that at times. Part of it could have been that majority of workers really struggled with English, but even the ones that understood weren’t very hospitable. I was shocked actually by how few workers spoke English. I figured at a resort you would need to speak English considering the majority of travelers do. Again, never really had that issue of communication in Mexico resorts. Overall, the pools were great, the resort looked beautiful, the beaches were amazing, and one of the nights they had a Michael Jackson show that was actually pretty great. But outside of that, it was bad on the rest of the experience you hope for.

We booked this resort for my birthday and had the most amazing time! The pool and bars are great and absolutely loved the food and different buffets around the resort (just not the seafood restaurant). The beach is gorgeous but could use some shade (umbrellas). Booked monkey land + zip lines for my birthday day at reception and it was so so good, highly recommend. We loved it so much we think we will book again in September for my fiancé’s birthday (if Orestes would give us a free royal upgrade?! ;) ).
