A lovely hotel, ruined by the coatis

Jaye G on Jan 26, 2026

We came to the resort on Christmas Day and I will be honest it really did visually have the wow factor. The Lindo lobby is gorgeous and the grounds are amazingly well kept. Unfortunately the Lindo rooms aren’t great our room felt dark and dingy for the money we paid and when our bell boy dropped us to our room we were greeted by around 15 coatis (Mexican raccoons) scavenging in the bins right outside which was a little intimidating with two young kids. We decided to upgrade to maya suites upon the offer of the concierge, and we managed to get the price down to a decent amount. DONT TAKE THEIR FIRST OFFER. And try to avoid all the sales sharks trying to get you to breakfast meeting to buy timeshares and be a part of the club it’s very annoying but they leave you alone eventually. The food was decent you could always find something to eat. The gym is 10/10 and the fitness classes were top quality. One major negative unfortunately was the coatis everywhere. They swarm the beach, the pool area and anywhere there are bins or rubbish being left. They would take people’s belongings, rummage through bags and even take food straight out of people’s hands. We were 4 adults shooing them away on the beach and one still ran through us and jumped on my 2 year old daughter for her ice cream, scratching her in the process. The lifeguard cleaned it and the hotel staff said she will be fine without treatment but since coming home the uk doctors said Mexico is a high risk country for rabies and now she’s had to have tetanus and 4 rabies shots in the space of 2 weeks - which is really traumatic for a 2 year old. There were people letting their children feed them and trying to pet them which is only making the problem worse. Just based on this alone I wouldn’t return. I think it is bad practice for the staff to give medical advice when there clearly are real risks. My daughter also spent the rest of the holiday scared whenever the coatis were in eyeshot and couldn’t enjoy an ice cream unless we were inside one of the restaurants, which I thought was pretty sad!! Make sure you pack everything you might need because the shops on the resort are EXTORTION. $25 for a bouncy ball, $36 for a pack of nappies, $22 for a pack of crisps. It’s insane!! They know your only other option is to get a taxi outside of the resort. If you don’t mind venturing out playa del carmen has pharmacies that are a fraction of the price.

Great hotel - but disappointing golf holiday

Daydream794690 (Ontario, Canada) on Jan 25, 2026

I'll start with the positives - this was a return trip for us to this hotel and complex and we have always enjoyed our stays. Our room was certainly showing it's age, but very roomy and was well kept by housekeeping with no issues. We mostly dined in the non-reservation restaurants and had consistently good meals and service (Greek and Seafood were our favourites). Sports Bar was worth checking out for a drink and/or quick bite - super busy during NFL games. The Pizza corner and taco place at the shopping centre were our go-to for mid-day light meals. We never had problems finding loungers at the pool or beach but can see where it would be an issue during peak travel periods. For the hotel itself, I would have given a 5 star rating... but .... The big disappointment for us on this trip was the golf course, as we come to this complex primarily for a golf holiday. The course has become very popular with large groups who have been given priority booking. That means golfers like ourselves who come for a golf holiday in the winter months no longer have access to morning tee times. To make matters worse, we still pay the same 5 round price as we would to play in peak hours, but relegated to twilight only hours. As much as we have enjoyed our past Iberostar Paraiso golf holidays, this was sadly the last as golfing only in twilight is just not an option.
