Mixed Review

Arrived at hotel and given directions to room 224. Wandered around before asking another employee who took us (through car park, never would have found it) and what a disappointment, room tatty, really worn and our poolside room was a wall and a car park. Rang reception and was told there was nothing that night but we could move the following day. On the following day had to move out in the morning, so without a room until check in time of 4pm. Thankfully new room 302 was refurbished and lovely overlooking pool and much nicer all around. Hotel situated on mission beach which is lovely, bar area and restaurant also really nice. Had a lovely relaxing day back to the room and it hadn’t been serviced. Rang housekeeping and woman answered but talking to someone else before speaking to my husband, and was a little off with him when he requested towels and coffee. Next day went out and returned and room had not been serviced but we just changed and then just as we we were leaving the staff member arrived. Next two days room serviced just after lunch which was fab, and then next day staff member arrived as we were getting ready. Asked her if she could give us half an hour, she said I need to finish at 5 (it was 4) she then agreed to come back. I ironed my cream trousers and steam left dirty mark across the hem. When we came back shower hadn’t been cleaned but there were fresh towels and beds had been made. There are lots of bars and restaurants around and we took bus along to old town, and bus and tram to gaslamp quarter, both worth a visit. Overall relaxing which is what we wanted on third leg of our trip but disappointing in a couple of areas.

So Glad We Chose the Catamaran

librarychick (Illinois) on Sep 29, 2024

This was our first trip to San Diego and I spent a lot of time trying to pick the best place to stay. After our week there we feel very confident that we chose wisely. The hotel is amazingly beautiful and well kept. We had a bay view king room on the 10th floor of the tower. Our room's furnishings and patio door could use an update for sure but the room was functional, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. ALL of the staff was outstanding and friendly. Great pool area, convenient parking in the garage, really nice coffee shop. Parking, resort fee, bar prices etc are pricey but nothing unusual for SD-we still felt the value we got for the price we paid was comparable or better than other hotel choices. The location was great for us. We visited the sea lions at La Jolla cove, kayaked out of La Jolla Shores, took a boat ride downtown, went to the zoo and the Midway, hiked at Torrey Pines and Cabrillo National Monument, and explored Coronado and Old Town. Everything was a reasonable distance and fairly easy drive away. We also loved that we could walk to all of our meals. Mission Beach and Pacific Beach both have so many great local options in all sorts of price ranges. Ralph's Grocery and CVS are in walking distance too. The beach is literally one short block from the front of the hotel-I couldn't get a real good feel for that before we arrived but yup, it is right there and of course, the beautiful bay (larger than I expected) is in the backyard-we saw stingrays and a sea lion or a seal in the bay on multiple occasions. We talked about renting bikes but wound up just walking everywhere. Really a great place-we were very sad to leave.
