Kind staff...SO helpful!

Nice clean, comfortable rooms. They were able to get us in last minute in the middle of the night when our flight canceled while we were sitting on the plane waiting to take off.

Spirit of Aloha is alive and well here

Halleybopp (Scottsdale, Arizona) on Jan 03, 2026

I did an exhaustive amount of research before booking this hotel/motel for our family's first visit to Kauai. I read up on all the island's resorts, every Marriott and Hilton property, multiple other small local hotels and several condo/home rentals on all corners of the island. My two main objectives in finding a place to stay were a good location and a spirit of Aloha- and this place fit the bill 100%. The property itself has a lot of good qualities. It is spotlessly clean, and the remodel was tastefully done with fun and unobtrusive colors. Everything is in great condition and well maintained. The highlight of this property is that the grounds are beautiful and it was so nice to see the kids outside skipping from the pools, to the grass, to the sand and back among the native birds and plants. Kauai is one of the few places on Earth where you can see rare and endangered species of birds thriving, and natural waterfalls and ponds abound. It pained my heart to see non-native birds with clipped wings on display in man-made ponds at some of the pricy nearby resorts, and I was glad I chose Kauai Shores for its authenticity. The rooms are small and the walls are thin, so expect some noise. Also, we found the beds and pillows to be less than ideal. Overall, the sleep quality was just OK due to these factors. However, I will say the staff does a great job after 10 pm when the pool closes by enforcing the rules and keeping the noise level down. As many have mentioned, we found staying in the Kapaa area to be very convenient for sightseeing all sides of the island. The nearby downtown area has some cute shops and good restaurants. I enjoyed the mix of tourists and locals in this area, vs. the vibe at the resort areas we visited where it is all tourists except for those working there. A lot of people complained about the parking, but we were out and back early each day and only had to valet once. Parking to me was a non-issue, and even if I had needed to use the valet more, it is free (other than tip) and they were quite fast with retrieving the car. I thought the food and service at the onsite Lava Lava Beach Club restaurant were just OK. We ate there once for dinner and then only went back for drinks at the bar after that. The Ube Limeade is a great cocktail and they had several great beers on tap, it was just the food that was lackluster for the price. We preferred to drive to downtown Kapaa or walk over to the Coconut Grove marketplace to eat. Overall, despite the minor issues, this hotel is a good value for the money. If I return to Kauai, I would consider staying here again.
