You are allowed to check 2 to 4 bags on a WestJet flight, except with WestJet Encore, where you are allowed 2 to 3 bags. The number of bags allowed over 2, and baggage fees required, depend on your fare bundle and WestJet Rewards tier benefits.
To travel with more than the standard number of bags allowed, you can ship additional luggage through WestJet Cargo.

How much a bag costs is based on your fare bundle and WestJet Rewards tier. These are the fees for bookings made on or after April 27, 2022, for travel anytime:
- 1st bag: pre-paid $30-$35.40 check-in $40-$47.20
- 2nd bag: pre-paid $50-$59 check-in $60-$70.80
- Excess bags (third and fourth bag): $100 - $118
- Oversized baggage (63-80 in. / 158-203 cm): $100 - $118
- Overweight baggage (51-100 lb. / 23-45 kg): $100 - $118
- Handling fee for firearms and sports equipment: $50 - $59
If you purchased a Basic fare and are travelling to or from Europe, please note the following checked bag fee:
- 1st bag: pre-paid $60-$70.80 check-in $70-$82.60
- 2nd bag: pre-paid $90-$106.20 check-in $100 - $118
If you purchased a Basic fare and are travelling to or from Asia, please note the following checked bag fee:
- 1st bag: pre-paid $70-$82.60 check-in $80-$94.40
- 2nd bag: pre-paid $100-$118 check-in $110-$129.80

Fees are combinable where applicable. For example: if an item is overweight, oversized and is a second item, then all 3 fees apply.

Baggage fees are charged in Canadian (CAD) or U.S. (USD) dollars, depending on the booking’s country of origin. For flights departing from outside Canada, baggage fees will be converted and charged in the local currency of the departure country, GST is charged on fees for all itineraries that originate in Canada.
When is my baggage fee included?

First bag fees are included for WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ primary cardholders and up to 8 guests on the same booking.
First bag fees are included for EconoFlex, Premium and Business fares and Silver, Gold and Platinum WestJet Rewards members. First bag fees are also included for Econo and Member Exclusive fares to and from Asia.
Second bags are included for Premium and Business guests, as well as Silver, Gold, and Platinum Rewards members
Excess bags are included for Platinum Rewards members.

Prepay for bags and save. Guests are encouraged to prepay for their first and second bags, as baggage fees will increase by $10 within 24 hours of departure.
The size of checked baggage must be within 157 total cm (62 total in.) and not weighing more than 23 kg (50 lb.).

Oversized luggage exceeds 157 cm (62 in.) in total combined dimension (length + width + height), but less than 203 cm (80 in.).
Overweight luggage exceeds 23 kg (51 lb.), but no more than 45 kg (100 lb.).
For flights to and from Europe, Overweight luggage exceeds 23kg (51 lb.), but no more than 32 kg (70 lb.)
Baggage exceeding the accepted number, weight or dimensions must be shipped through WestJet Cargo.

Travelling with a child under 2
When you travel with a child on your lap, you can check 2 pieces of infant equipment (e.g. car seat, bassinet or stroller), in addition to your checked baggage allowance, free of charge.
Travelling with a child over 2
A child or infant travelling in a paid seat, you can check one piece of child/infant equipment (e.g. car seat, playpen or stroller), in addition to their checked baggage allowance, free of charge.
Priority baggage means your bags will be tagged so they are among the first to the arrival carousel.
Eligible guests include
- Platinum and Gold members and their travel companions on the same reservation1
- Guests seated in Business or Premium

Prepaid checked baggage fees are refundable in the event of a flight cancellation.
- Prepaid checked bags can only be added on WestJet operated flights.
- Prepaid checked baggage fees can be paid online for first and second bags only. If first and second bags are already included for as part of the fare bundle selected, or as part of WestJet Rewards member benefits, additional bags can only be added at the airport.
Baggage fees change within 24 hours of your flight. First and second bag fees will increase by $10 within 24 hours of departure during check-in, including check-in at the airport. Guests are encouraged to prepay for their first and second bags, you can do so here.
Flights with prepaid checked bags can be cancelled online and bags fees will be refunded.
Flights with prepaid checked bags can be changed online and pre-paid bag fees will be carried over to your new flight.

Each guest can bring one piece of carry-on luggage and one personal item.
Carry-ons must fit in the overhead bin, for example, a backpack or small suitcase. Smaller, personal items need to fit underneath the seat in front of you, like a purse, sports ball or laptop.
In addition to the carry-on baggage allowance, other items are also allowed in the cabin, regarding they can be properly stowed. For more information, and to view a full list of items that are accepted, see additional items.
