Excellent Holiday – have booked again

First timers at Sandals Royal Barbados. Previously stayed at Excellence properties and Secrets Cap Cana among others to compare. I was keen to compare Sandals to these as pricing is now coming up similar but a bit concerned with the poor reviews on here. On arrival, no cool towels or butlers as expected, but as we’d checked in online before arriving, when we went to the Desk we were advised to take a seat. We did start to wonder where our butler was, but after about 15 minutes, Shae (one of 3 butlers who looked after us) arrived to take us to our room. Room We had booked an HSUP (swim-up room in St Lawrence Building at the back of the resort) and had requested Room 11102 (recommended by a previous traveller) and this was granted. The room was lovely and big and the bed so comfortable. Housekeeping were excellent and Mini Bar regularly refilled. On arrival, Shae opened the bottle of fizz on ice that was in the room and we chilled straight away. Shae gave us our planner for the week and she had booked all our restaurants based on our preferences, so we headed out for a quick drink before dinner. We tried most restaurants, with the exception of Spice, Dinos, Kimonos and Greenhouse – all were really good – no complaints. Breakfast at La Parisienne was excellent – we went most days as well as American Tavern (buffet). For lunch, we usually went to Neptunes (by the beach) – we also fancied Schooners, but during our stay that wasn’t open for lunch sadly. Alternatively we ate at Heart and Sol – all very good. We loved the English Pub – Merry Monkey – nice ambience – we didn’t eat in there, but enjoyed a few drinks. We also liked Lovers Lane for a drink as my husband liked the bottled Becks beer they served in there – again could get quite busy. Overall, the service was very good. Our Butlers (Shae, Shontelle and Benita) were very good, checking in with us each day, reserving our sun loungers around the pool and front row of the beach (wow), offering drinks and cocktails from the bar. Each day they filled our cooler with water and ice. A previous guest had recommended we ask for a lobster lunch on our terrace, which was amazing, but were disappointed it wasn’t offered or suggested. Our room wasn’t decorated at all to celebrate the fact we were on holiday for an Anniversary – again, a bit disappointing but just a small niggle. To add, we are pretty self sufficient so probably didn’t use the butlers as much as some guests do. On our last day, we requested late checkout – this was granted until 6pm for $100 – we had to go to the Front Desk to pay in the morning – but they seemed understaffed, we hung around for a while trying to get it sorted, but it did make things much easier with a late flight home back to the UK. One tip would be for Sandals (both properties) to put a map together so we could understand where everything is, as well as to advertise the entertainment of what is going on and where, rather than the current maps of each property separately. For all intents and purposes, Sandals Barbados and Royal are one property, but it did get confusing. In summary, I can’t understand the negative reviews – it compared really well to our previous trips to the Caribbean – we really enjoyed our holiday and have booked to return again in 2026!
Sandals cost us $1000 for their mistake

I was given bad information upon arrival and as a result it cost us $1000!!! Attempts to rectify the situation fell on deaf ears!! Instead of Sandals taking responsibility for their mistake points were given!! We may never return again!!!!
