Reviews
Fantastic relaxing holiday
Maz367 (Manchester, United Kingdom) on Jan 26, 2023
Ok so I think the 1 star reviews are definitely not warranted for a resort like this! In fact they stressed me out so much when I landed at the airport I had major anxiety thinking I would end up in a horrible damp room and become ill and ignored if the reviews were all true! As soon as we were brought to Lawrence House the new quiet building I relaxed ?? It was perfect, comfy bed, air conditioning that you can control, nice balcony. Near the quiet pool and Greenhouse and Heart and Sol for amazing smoothies. I will get the reason I dropped one star out of the way first and it might sound a bit pathetic. However I had an item of clothing removed from the room, highly likely in error, scooped up with towels or the robes left at the end of the bed. The robes were removed early and I had to phone and ask for new ones as we had another 3 nights stay. Anyway no one was interested in helping me to get my pyjama shorts back. They were pretty, with bright patterns on them so they couldn’t have been hard to miss at the laundry. I asked a few times and no luck, I felt like a nuisance in the end but I really wanted them back with no avail. So please ensure your clothes are put in the drawers so they can’t be removed in error…. The other slightly annoying thing to me was the drug sellers on the beach. I like to read near the water and was approached a few times although to be fair you only had to say no thank you once and they did not harass you at all. From that point they just say hello enjoy the island etc. But still…I’d rather be left alone. These guys are not to be confused with the guy that sells aloe Vera. He genuinely only sells aloe Vera and again is a polite man. So onto the absolute positives now that those two negatives are out of the way. The grounds are spectacular! The staff are so lovely, I didn’t see any rude behaviour at all from any staff! Bearing in mind they are serving people all day that expect quick service!! Just have some patience, you’re on holiday! I only wanted to book for 2 restaurants, Butch’s chophouse and Kimonos. Both were worth the wait. You need to go to club sandals and book your slot as soon as possible or the butler guests will take the good eating times and you’ll be left with 9pm slots. I found the staff at Butch’s in particular delightful especially Shaquon and Brigette. Portofinos and Bombay I really enjoyed and also the ambience of Neptunes. I heard great reports about Chi and Soy but to be honest 3 evenings we ended up grabbing some pizzas from Dinos and eating them on our balcony in robes listening to the Barbados tree frogs. I really loved doing that. Sweet and Saltys coffee and donuts had to be visited daily! Plus why not grab an ice cream from the French cafe to eat after dinner, it’s open until 10pm ! Rude not to. Breakfast at Greenhouse is lovely, be prepared for a wait after ordering but it is lovely. Vincent and staff do a great job. If you want a quick buffet breakfast then American Tavern is probably the best. I heard Spices was good and we also tried La Parisienne for its lovely view. There is something for everyone here, if you don’t like the DJ music you can just head further down the beach and get the sun beds at the end or go to any of the other pools. Would I go back? Yes I would not hesitate. My advice would be to grab a few towels for the next day and keep them in your room then bag your preferred spot at the beach or pool then head to breakfast and enjoy it. I’d recommend a juice or smoothie first and sit outside and talk to Oreo the cat or the chickens. Just relax and enjoy!!
Not as good as it was

Where shall we start… as returning customers we can whole heartedly say things aren’t what they were.firstly the good stuff. The new st Lawrence building, pool, bar and two new restaurants are a welcome addition. The healthier options are a change, the pool much more modern and you can get seats (!) and it’s quiet with friendly pool staff, especially Tanisha. Having only found it half way thru our holiday we spent our later days here. Restaurants were hit and miss. Merry monkey was a surprise, atmosphere pretty authentic, Jack the manager was ace but he didn’t have enough staff and our food arrived cool, but can’t fault it’s quality. Bombay was an out and out winner, maya and Natasha were excellent hosts, the food was the best we had, authentic and tasty. Butch’s was a prime example of differing experiences. Friends had a great first meal, went back again and had a shocking one as did we. Steaks were covering in blackened bits from a griddle plate which hadn’t been cleaned. The Mac n cheese used to come on a cast iron skillet roasting hot. The new one was a flaccid excuse for a pasta salad. Everything super salty, service consisted of the elderly bar man trying to persuade us to give a good review before we’d eaten! Freezing cold, no one paid attention to our complaints, red wine also freezing ??! Pools… we might be getting to old but the main pool plays just what the dj wants - local stuff most of us have never heard of. No bar stools at the pool bar so you don’t hang around. Staff generally have an attitude that it’s ‘someone else’s job’ so nothing gets done. Pigeon poo on our chair at the mariners bar and it was quicker to clear it up myself. Had dinner in chi. Waitress literally thru dinner at us, replenished only half of us got wine and did a lot of tutting ?? Spices for breakfast was fab, staff lovely, food hot. Same can’t be said for the Italian or greenhouse where you wait 30 mins after ordering. We went out to eat there times. Cost is a fortune but couldn’t have 10 nights of sandals food! Seriously thinking about cancelling our next booking. The only thing five star about this resort are the AMAZING ground staff - the place looks impeccable - absolutely flawless.
