Hot room

Nice facility but this is one of those hotels where you can adjust the thermostat but it won’t really cool the room. It must have some preset value that even though you set it lower it won’t actually cool to that setting. So I’m typing this at 3AM in this hot room.
Great Location, Good Night Sleep, Stupid Parking Rates

My company has a branch close to this hotel and my boss always stays here when he is in town. He recommended this hotel to me because of the proximity to our facility. I arrived fairly late in the evening. It was dark, I was tired, and I nearly turned down the pedestrian walkway on the side of the street. I caught myself and ended up detouring around the block but be warned - NOT A LANE. (This was my fault, not theirs.) Turning left onto N Harbor Dr is a bit confusing. I had a rental car. Parking rates are ridiculous. It was $40/night to self park and $43/night for the valet. Since I was going to be paying it anyway, I chose the valet parking. I also chose to add the charge to my room charge. Check-in was fine. The front desk clerk was really friendly and was determined to get me into the best available room, which ended up being the furthest most point in the hotel from the elevators. It's fine - I needed the steps. My room was lovely. It had a balcony and I could hear the seals and the bell tolling. I was a bit unnerved that the balcony door was unlocked when I came into the room. I couldn't get to the balcony from the ground, but it was only the second floor - someone athletic could probably make it. Also, the chairs on the balcony were in desperate need of a scrub. It felt a bit dated and is probably close to due for a refresh - the wallpaper was peeling a bit near the ceiling (possibly a poor water damage repair). The room had everything I needed. If the hotel sees this, I'd love to know the brand of shampoo and conditioner that you have stocked in the shower - it made my hair smell fabulous. The bathtub is quite deep - if you are into baths, it would probably be excellent for a good soak. The bed was really comfortable. I stayed for 3 nights and came back to the room to find the bed made on Thursday night. So maid service is every other day? After a full day at work, I mostly just hid in my room so my plans to swim didn't happen. There is a small gift shop in the lobby with a good selection of trinkets and emergency supplies. They need to restock their postcards, but they also have a stamp vending machine. My biggest complaint is that I had to leave for LAX at 4 am so I asked the valet the night before to make sure the car was ready. He assured me that it would be up front waiting for me when I came downstairs. When I came downstairs at 4:15, no car. And no one at the valet podium or behind the front desk. I had to call, wind my way through the voicemail system to get a human, go back to the front desk, then fight my way through the app (after adding my phone to the wifi due to no signal), pay for parking on the app (it was NOT added to room charge), request the car through the app while standing with the front desk guy, who then walked over, got the car keys out of the valet room, brought them back, and gave me a key card to get out of the parking garage, and walked me over to the garage. It's fortunate that I allowed a significant buffer because all of the fooling around added nearly 45 minutes to my leave time. All in all, I hope to come back some day.
Great start horrible finish

I came to this hotel to end our first family vacation in over 8 years. It started off great but the last day I was bitten by something early in the morning. It hurt so bad that I came to the front desk to alert them. I didn’t want to make a scene but you can physically see my finger get worse and worse. They offered me cream and a bandage. They informed me that a manager would call. She didn’t. I called later to get a hold of Mrs. Bauer. She informed me that she would comp my room and let me know of the results of the testing they would do in the room. A 2 weeks pass. Nothing. No refund. To call. I call back again and speak to Crystal the guest service manager. She informed me the results of the test and would get back to me regarding the refund. No one has called. It has now been a month. No refund. No comment. No support. My finger was swollen so bad that I couldn’t drive home and had to pay for another hotel and an extra day at the dog hotel where my dog was staying at. I had to pay another 350 for a hotel. 150 for the dog hotel and a no their 175 for the car rental. I didn’t want to make a scene at the hotel front desk but I guess I should have. They have gone quiet and refuse to return my calls. I would stay away from this hotel. The picture attached was my finger 2 weeks after the bite. The swelling was still there and my skin started to peel. Not fun. Should have kept your word. Now this review will be on all my feeds.
Definitely improving

When I first stayed at this hotel a couple years ago, I was less than impressed with the customer service, but the hard product was fine. I really like the location in the Redondo Bay, the breakfast is pretty good, if a bit expensive, and the rooms are generally quiet and comfortable. By and large, my experience this time was more or less the same, except customer service has made some topical improvements. Some of the front desk personnel still don’t know the difference between gold elite, and no status, but if you ask the right people the right questions, you will be taken care of. I lucked into a point redemption for a junior suite - a great feature of the Sonesta system, which gives you access to higher tiered rooms at the same number of points as standard. So, for my 25,000 points, I got a junior suite overlooking the ocean (well, the parking lot that overlooks the ocean), with a large shower, a very comfortable bed, and more space than I, traveling solo, knew what to do with. My only two complaints about the room itself were that the showerhead could clearly use replacing and the TV, although a flatscreen, is at least 10 years old. For a hotel of this quality, I would’ve expected a little bit better on those two fronts. Other than that, I really enjoyed my night and if I ever get another opportunity to splurge, I will definitely give these guys another shout.
Very disappointing

Extremely disappointed with this hotel. For the room rate this should have been clean , updated and well appointed. The from was old, musty, the carpet was sticky and the pool is on top of a parking garage. I would not go back to a Sonesta hotel.
