Not the Sandals standard! Lots of changes - few are good.

We come to Sandals because of the beaches and the staff. From this perspective, Sandals did not disappoint. But the condition and maintenance of the property lacks a great deal. This was to be our "makeup" trip from Covid. There have been many changes since 2019 many of them bad. For example. Gone are the "white/black nights." Wine tastings and martini nights. Sandals decided to take all those green spaces and fill them with more lodging. Also gone? The iconic blue floats. The only way that you can get that is to be in a swim up room. So are the platforms that used to be in the corners of the ocean swimming section. According to staff, those were placed by the Jamaican government and Beryl took them away. We booked a butler suite in the Sundowner building. Our tub, in addition to being dirty was broken (no sprayer - it had been ripped of). This may have accounted for the dirty tub. Then the entire building lost air conditioning. I am an older woman that still suffers from hot flashes and night sweats this was not great for me. I could not sleep. To add insult to injury, when I stepped outside to just get fresh air, the couple next to us had lit up (cigarettes.) I am terribly allergic to the smoke (I have to use an inhaler to breathe when exposed.) It was at that point that I went to management. To be fair, the woman responsible for guest relations that day was very understanding. They made arrangements to put us into another room. It was on the other end of the resort, but the air was working. The tub however, was again dirty (this time with rings - think another person's body oil) and the outside tub was full of bits of gravel and dirt - it too was broken. I was also concerned about the fact that everyone in the Sundowner were noting how poorly the air conditioning was working. Management made no effort to inform the other guests, nor did they relocate to a part of the resort that had working air. Because we still wanted to keep our butlers (amazing - more later) we chose to stay in their "zone" so that they would not have to traipse through the entire resort just to accommodate us (it was not their fault that the air did not work). Several things were missing and/or broken on the resort. Many of the bars did not serve draft red stripe. The same can be said for the daquiri dispensers. They are basically slushies and the staff add the alcohol after they had gotten the drink from the machine. Good for someone like me that likes weak drinks, probably not so much for others. Gone is the jerk chicken shack with self serve soda machines. It was replaced with a mexican restaurant (perla). When it rained, it smelled a great deal like raw sewage and my enthusiasm for walking through puddles was not high. Water leaked from the rain onto the pool tables. They did not have mangos or bananas but that is not due to the resort. This was as a result of the hurricane Beryl that wiped out much of those crops. One parish had not had electricity for over a month. The storm was a major wind event. I do have to give Sandals credit from one perspective, they had done a great job in cleaning up after the storm. I also believe that a big driving factor would also be the loss of revenue had they not cleaned up. Our butlers, Wadea and Kendrick were amazing. After a few days, Wadea knew our likes and dislikes and was able to anticipate almost all of our needs. I can't imagine what it is like to be in long sleeve shirts, vest and long pants walking through the resort all day long. But always a smile and great service. We saw more of Wadea. As such, she knew us more. Both would leave us a small mid afternoon snack in our room (keep in mind, we were in a completely different part of the resort.) Kendrick even drew up a beautiful bath and covered our bed with rose petals for our anniversary. They made the stay. So much so, that we rebooked. If we go back depends greatly on management keeping to their word and awarding us the extra points to make up for the lack of cleanliness and air. The entertainment was great, particularly the steel drum band. To watch these young people perform is breath taking. The energy, the beauty, just wow!. If you want to appreciate hard work, go to the nights where the staff are responsible for the entertainment. I imagine that based on the upkeep of the rooms (lacking) and the breaking equipment, that Sandals does very little in terms of support of costuming, music, etc for these kids. I bet that they do it all on their own. Miss Sandra was still there (much to my delight) and best of all, she remembered me! She is still the barkeep in the large dining area. Our meals were made profoundly great with the talents of Thadian and Garreth. Garreth made the best brown stew chicken. Who knew something so simple could taste so divine! I still dream about it. We rebooked while at the resort but with great trepidation. I want to see if Sandals is going to live up to their commitments in terms of points and that the resort itself is much better maintained. I believe that we may be seeing a brand in a free fall decline. Because Jamaica had a hurricane slamming into the island a bit more than a month before (cat 4) we are willing to give them another chance. I still have the feeling that Sandals has done that indicate to me that they are no longer able to maintain the standards so long associated with their name and brand.

I love sandals Negril but found some areas kinda nasty in this trip. Some of the workers were not as friendly also seemed bothered by asking them questions . Food is great.. the restaurants are the best ! Bravo is by far the best new restaurant on the property . The manager was very nice and was working so hard to keep everything so great .
