Relaxation, Kindness, Quiet, Restful, Beautiful......The Benson 10/10

Coming for business 3 weeks can be exhausting. Walking through the front door to check in I was tired. Within seconds I was greeted by warm smiles and a beautiful decor. As I looked around, I did not feel like I was in a hotel. I felt the welcome like I was walking into somebody's home. Without question it was the best sleep i've ever had add a hotel. The curtains blacked out any light when I didnt want it and had beautiful sunshine when I did. I strongly recommend this beautiful place for anyone who is either on vacation, or here on business. There might be hundreds of options here in the city, but the next time I come, there's only one place I am going to lay my head. From the front desk, to the restaurant staff, the food, the valet and the management. 10/10.

Disappointing stay - overrated?

We were extremely disappointed in our stay. It’s even more disappointing given all the positive reviews here. My family and I (wife and 2 kids) were here for graduation weekend and had many different options. I’m a Diamond member for Hilton and platinum for Marriott and we were debating various hotels. We seriously considered the Hilton or even The Porter (which was closer to the school) but decided to pay a little more money to stay here. It turned out to be a very poor choice. I texted hotel earlier in week that I was arriving early (10:30-11am) and if there was any way to get an early check in, it would be appreciated. They told me they can’t guarantee it but will try - and I totally get that. When we arrived nothing was available and I had to check bags. I understood. But when I asked how long until a room was available, they had no answer. They didn’t call housekeeping or anything. In the end, I didn’t get notified until after 3pm that room was available - when normal check in at 4pm. What bothered me here is I know others who were able to check in earlier than we were who arrived after me. Apparently I was assigned a specific room and so I was stuck with whenever that particular room was available - even though other comparable rooms became available sooner. To make matters worse, they did say I would be upgraded as a Diamond member - and I even had a text to prove it - but in the end when I checked in, I was not upgraded. I was given a regular room that faced a wall. Nothing special. When I asked at check in, they said hotel was sold out and nothing was available. When I showed them text that I would be upgraded, they just shrugged and said sorry. Meanwhile on my app, if I wanted, I could have manually upgraded to a higher floor by *paying for the upgrade* - so what I was told apparently wasn’t even true. They just didn’t want to upgrade me for free. Also the hot water wasn’t great. My wife took a shower and it literally look 3-4 minutes (not exaggerating) for the water to become hot. Just a poor experience on many levels. I could have stayed at other Hilton properties and I chose wrong one. Your diamond status here means absolutely nothing. I don’t have a Portland trip planned in future so nothing I can do. But for those reading this, maybe try other Hilton properties. Not worth the extra cost.
