A beautiful hotel with great amenities, clean, comfortable and lovely service, especially Nils and Enrique who went out of their way to make it a seamless experience. We did notice the WiFi was quite slow.
Two Thumbs Down

What an unpleasant stay. I arrived close to 1 in the afternoon and was told by Stephen that check in was not until 4, and that they would call and text when the room was ready - likely in an hour's time. Two and a half hours later, after watching a stream of people being checked in immediately (and receiving NO call or text), I approached the front desk and went back to Stephen who looked startled and said something under his breath indicating he had forgotten all about me. Once in my room, I found that it to be really cold and despite turning the thermostat as high as it could go (78 F) the room remained cold (the heat did not kick in until evening, which makes me believe the thermostat is controlled centrally and this is their way of saving on their bill). The rooms are quite small. There are no toiletries available, and the towels were unacceptably frayed (see photo). We were all awakened by a fire alarm that went off at 1:45 in the morning. When I made it downstairs, there was a staff person behind the desk who told us to wait outside until they figured out the source of the alarm. The alarm continued to sound for about 30 minutes while we all stood outside in the freezing cold. NO ONE came to give us an update or brought blankets or anything. In fact, when the alarm stopped and we went inside there was NO ONE FROM STAFF around, anywhere. It really felt like we were all on our own. Bizarrely, there are no signs for the elevator on the floors anywhere, which is a danger. And the elevator is tucked in a corner such that I had to walk the entire floor every time to find it. The next morning when I waited in line to check out, I overheard the front staff tell the guest checking out in front of me that the fire alarm was NOT their fault, that the blame was to be placed on a bunch of kids who were smoking and triggered the alarm. The word "sorry", "my apologies", "sorry for the inconvenience" did not come out of his mouth. Just a whole lot of defensiveness and defiance. Nor did the hotel offer discounts for the disruption. There was not so much as an email apology. The best thing about the hotel is the neighborhood. But there are other hotels around. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again. It is honestly one of the most unpleasant stays I have had, and I travel a lot.
First trip to San Francisco

I stayed at the Argonaut Hotel on a trip to San Francisco. Location in Fisherman’s Wharf was excellent and close to many restaurants, shops and other tourist destinations. Easy to navigate the area around the hotel. The Argonaut has valet parking which we used with prompt in and out service. I saw some reviews that people said that the cost was too expensive for parking, but I found it to be comparable to other big cities such as Chicago.Hotel employees we encountered were friendly and outgoing. Our room was spacious and clean and had nice bedding and bathroom toiletries. We used restaurant for breakfast and it was okay. Our server was nice but kind of slow on bringing stuff. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.
