Fisherman's Wharf Delight

mrs r (North Carolina) on Aug 20, 2026

My spouse participated in the Alcatraz swim race and the Argonaut's location was perfect. Upon checking in, Sharon and Isaac were both welcoming and expeditious(it was busy) in getting us into our room and early which was most excellent! Our suite was beautiful -- super clean, well-appointed, and a perfect view of Alcatraz. The complimentary welcome drink along with morning coffee was a lovely touch -- both enjoyed by the fire in the cozy lobby. The place was buzzing but Argonaut handled the influx of guests with grace. We slept really well and enjoyed our time here. Would definitely stay again.

A Fisherman’s Wharf gem, perfect for families

We just wrapped up a stay at the Argonaut Hotel with our 9-year-olds and loved every minute of it. The nautical-themed decor gives the whole place real character — it’s housed in a historic 1908 cannery building, and you can feel that history in the exposed brick and timber beams throughout. The location couldn’t be better for a family trip: we were steps from Fisherman’s Wharf, an easy stroll to the cable car lines, and close enough to the piers to make our Alcatraz and bay cruise mornings completely stress-free. Staff were warm and accommodating from check-in through checkout, and the beds were genuinely comfortable after long days of sightseeing. It’s the kind of hotel that makes a busy itinerary feel easy instead of exhausting. Highly recommend for anyone visiting SF with kids — the location alone makes it worth it, and the character of the building makes it memorable.

Highly recommend the Argonaut

Kathy B (Baltimore, MD) on Aug 12, 2026

We had a wonderful stay at the Argonaut Hotel! The location is great for tourists--right in Fisherman's Wharf, close to the Powell-Hyde Turntable, Ghirardelli, and Boudin's. The hotel is beautiful and feels historic. The lobby is gorgeous (and smells good!). I spent many mornings by the fireplace while my teenagers slept in. For a city hotel, our room was fairly spacious, we loved the exposed brick wall and beams. My only complaint was that the room was stocked (over stocked) with incidentals (beverages, snacks, etc.). It was annoying because the items took up valuable space (there were so many!) and were intentionally tempting to children (there was even a $25 stuffed animal). Management needs to reconsider this overt push on their guests--just set up a gift shop/market instead. Otherwise, we loved our stay and highly recommend this hotel!

You can breathe the air for free, but not much else

The money extract starts at Check-in (if you miss the valet parking), an extortionate fee to provide access to such exceptional items as WiFi, coffee, concierge services. You cannot avoid this charge, but here’s where the game begins. Entering your room you’re met by an adorable seal on your bed, you’re overjoyed..until you luckily spot the $20 tag before opening it. Then you look around you, and there are traps everywhere. $6 bottles of water at the side of your bed, the mini bar - which you always approach with caution, has been stepped up in price. There is no kettle or cofffee facilities, so you either have to beg for one or buy some coffee (if after 11am). Dont worry though, you have. $15 voucher to spend in the restaurant each day, here comes the next trap..your credit doesn’t rollover to the next day and, don’t dare to think that they’d let you put it towards your breakfast! To summarise, the hotel is not nice enough to charge an expensive room rate, it’s dated and not that special (dirty grout and threadbare couch), so they hide charges around every corner. Go there if you don’t care about money, or love to play the game. I prefer honest hotels whether they be cheap or expensive.
